This thread is reserved for Syrenrei to RP with, and maintain a diary for, her Silva Regia Fey, Aesculus. Thank you to Anya! for her permission to use her diary concept. DO NOT POST HERE UNLESS YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY INVITED TO BY SYRENREI! Violators will be reported to a moderator. Background: The son of Lord Cortex and Lady Radix, the King's High Advisor and his lady wife, Aesculus was rumored to take after his father in both wisdom and beauty. He was the childhood friend of King Cervus. He was also the 8th Fey child freed of the curse. Upone being freed he was appointed as Cervus' Hand, on the way to claiming his father's former position. When he transformed to his teen state, he grew into the legend of his father's handsomeness. The stunning adolescent was appointed Cervus' personal Aide. He is now a full grown adult, and startlingly attractive. He has taken his father's place as the King's High Advisor. Personality: Aesculus was a very calm and serene little boy, oddly wise for his age. He tends to think of others before himself. He's highly intelligent, and not flashy or conceited, nor is he self conscious or possessed of low self esteem. He was a very well balanced youth and very level headed. As a teenager he had grown into further maturity well beyond his years. His concern for King and Kingdom remained foremost, although in other respects he was a normal teenage boy. Now a man, his level-headedness and outward sense of calm can be decieving. Aesculus tends to hide his emotions, and that can only build up to an explosive release at some point.

This is my dearest friend and my lord and king, Cervus. He is of a kind heart and soul, although sometimes I fear his emotions get the best of him. A childhood friend, he relies on me for advice... and sometimes I even ask him for a touch of advice as well. He has aged well. Cervus's wife, she is a fine and benevolent queen. She seems always concerned for others and is very gentle indeed- I think perhaps she is a good match for our king. I have not seen Ardea since my emergence from the curse, and my memory is foggy when I try to recollect who he is. He is the other I heard was freed and have not personally met. Alces is very kind and jovial... even around Rosa, who I find intolerable. Only once have I heard him raise his voice a touch, and even then he was not angry as much as agitated. Equus is another kind heart, and seems quite content and laid-back. He is a man I am not familar with, although he seemed like an agreeable person when I met him. Rosa is insufferable. Despite being proven wrong that I am not of the Moon Court and my high position now as advisor, she is petty and cruel and loves to tempt my anger. One day her pride will seize the best of her. Filix and I have just recently begun courting, and I have yet to disclose this to anyone. Cervus has given his approval, and hopes me not be rash. Filix is... a person of indescribable beauty, inside and out. Ursa is our shaman, and I have not seen her since she was a child, which saddens me. She was a rather curious and thoughtful person then, as I imagine she is now. Muris is now the stablemaster, and like Ursa, I have not seen her in a whole though I hear that she has become a fine woman. I would trust no other with the king's steeds. I have only met what will be our Court Mage once, and that was briefly when she grew. Rosa is quite jealous of her beauty, and perhaps rightfully so. I think I will find her a good friend as she seems as strong against Rosa's pettiness as Filix and I. Not yet met. My "adopted brother" and I get along fairly well although he has been absent most of the time I have spent with Syrenrei. Rather than following logical advice he seems rather to follow his intuition, which I respect, although sometimes I worry it may lead him astray. He trusts people so much... This is my Kithain, Syrenrei. While at first glance she seems a simple woman who has had little hardship, this is entirely untrue. Although I do not know her past, she seems to fall into trances thinking about it with a pained expression, only to replace it with bright smiles for all those around her. She seems to genuinely appretiate the comfort and companionship of others, Onuris and I, and her pets. I am proud to call this strong woman of my blood.

Aesculus opened his eyes slowly, calm golden eyes taking in his surroundings once the haze of waking left him. His room, just as he had left it before the curse... but how did he get there? As the events of the day before washed over him, he remembered with a smile how he had been released from his glassy prison by someone down his bloodline. As he sat up, he caught a form out of the corner of his eye, and turned to find his Kithain asleep atop the covers. Had she watched him all night? Worn with worry she had most likely passed out later in the night- and he was glad she now slept. Careful not to wake her, he folded some of the covers over her and jumped off the bed.
As he glanced about his room, they fell upon his old journal- but that would not do. This was a different time, and such deserved another tome to write his thoughts in. He wandered over to a large wooden chest that he had once flung gifts he could not politely refuse in- from admirers. Opening it carefully, he reached over into the box, which seemed so much taller now than it was before. As his fingers brushed against old worn leather, he struggled and pulled out a tome nearly the size of his head filled with empty parchment. He dusted it off and set it down, as he used both hands to close his trunk.
Half-pulling the gigantic volume, and half-hauling with straining arms, he slowly manuevered it on his desk. Scaling the chair took a bit of time as well, although once he was on top he was content, and he flipped open the new journal. Opening a new tub of ink and grabbing a quill that had once been too small for his fingers, he started to write. July 10, 2004I am once again in Tir Na Nog, but this time I'm a boy and not a window. It is a strange new world, despite my familiar room. People I had once seen born are older than me. Filix is a child like me, and Cervus is an adult, and they both used to play with me. I should have known since the curse things would not be same, even once I was freed, but this is different from everything I thought. Cervus said I was "sorely needed," although I'm not sure if I'm needed that bad. He tends to overreact sometimes and let his emotions get the best of him. I think maybe he just needs a friend to tell him it will be all right and help him relax. My hands are already tired. I can't wait until I am older and know how to write some better words and grammar. I know I will look at this later and shake my head. Yours, Aesculus He sighed and covered the ink well, put his quill down, and jumped off the chair. While his words dried, he decided he'd inspect his room again, and try to let himself relax. After all, he had met quite a few people and there was a lot to sink in yet. Perhaps after a few days, he decided, everything will seem more normal. Yes, it has to.

July 10, 2004 Role-playing log from Page 123 to 127 from Silva Regia main thread.Synopsis: (As cutting and pasting, I realized it was far too long) Aesculus wanders to the ruins in Gaia that connect it to Tir Na Nog. He meets Filix, and then Alces, when Filix suddenly crumples to the ground in pain. Cervus arrives and assures them that she is growing and just needs room- and grow she does. Neith arrives and takes Filix home, who Rosa catches a glimpse of as she arrives and Filix leaves. Cervus then asks Alces, Aesculus, and Rosa to join him and discuss what they think of life after the curse. Rosa, seeing Aesculus, tries to avoid doing so, but Cervus tells her to serve her queen as Queen Lilium arrives and joins them for their discussion. Alces gives a rather happy answer, telling the king how glad he is to be freed, Aesculus gives an elusive answer, and then Rosa tells him how unhappy she is. Aesculus grows furious as the king, queen, and Alces try to smooth things over and elate the atmosphere once more. Rosa keeps glaring at Aesculus, and after a little more banter, the group disperses for the most part.

July 11, 2004I will try to be brief, for there are many things I want to write about. Yesterday my Kithain left me to go clean her home because she did not want me to see it a mess. She seemed afraid to leave me alone, but I told her I would be all right, and so she left me with directions. I had time to waste so I wandered around the ruins on the Gaia side of Tir Na Nog. I had been there not even a full minute when a running Filix knocked into me. Moments after I greeted her Alces arrived. As we talked, Filix suddenly fell to the ground in pain. I was worried beyond words, but Cervus arrived and he and Alces told me to give her room because she was growing. It was truly amazing! Before my eyes she indeed grew into a lady from a child and now again appears older than her younger sister. Rosa, that annoying woman, arrived just as Filix left. Cervus decided then to ask us what we thought of our new lives. Alces gave a content answer, and he is truly happy with just being free. I tried not to answer directly because I was still confused. When he turned to Rosa, she told him how horrible she thought everything was. I was furious. What a stupid, thoughtless woman- she is truly something I dislike. The King, Queen, and Alces all seemed unbothered so I calmed down and stopped glaring at her, only to have her glare at me. Cervus then had to leave, so I left as well. I went to my Kithain's home, and found it a lovely cottage. She was wearing formal wear, and told me she had to return to the Prom later that my "brother" was at because he had insisted she get out of the house. With her smiling so much refering to this party, I couldn't object. We had some wonderful apple pie she "made from scratch." I could not have asked for a better baker. Before she left Lady Sy showed me around the home, telling me I was free to go anywhere but Onuris's room. She has a simple, cheerful home that is filled with life- both plants and pets. Windows light the rooms, and one is strangely circular. There was a living room, kitchen, three bedrooms (Onuris's, hers, and a guest's), and an extra "art" room I think. Before she left, I promised her that I would be there when she returned today and to greet her- I'm so small, she was afraid if I did not she would not find me. I want to explore more now, so I go. Yours, Aesculus

July 11, 2004 Role-playing log from Page 23 to 27 in the Castle Argentus thread.Synopsis: Filix, Aesculus, Alces, and Rosa come across one another in the garden and sit down for a casual conversation (with Rosa and Aesculus ignoring one another). Equus comes across the group of Fey and joins them. Queen Lilium also joins them a bit, but leaves after a little while. Strangely, Rosa beckons Aesculus away from the others to some rose bushes, where she accuses him of working for someone else and casting a spell on the king. When Aesculus points out he's a child and can't cast spells, Rosa second guesses herself, and so Aesculus returns to the other Fey. When she departs, however, she quietly calls Aesculus evil. ((XD)) Equus goes to retrieve a gift for Filix, but she leaves before he returns, and once he does return, he is called by Weasely... leaving Alces and Aesculus alone. Alces asks Aesculus to tell him about himself and Aesculus asks for some time to answer it so that he may answer it best- and as Alces leaves, he calls Aesculus his friend.

July 12, 2004Yesterday I made a new friend. Although I care for people, I usually am so quiet and less than sociable at times, so I have learned to live with the fact that I may not attract friends left and right. Last night I ran into many of the Fey in the garden, and as we were leaving Alces called me his friend. It was an amusing night. Everyone was there except my dearest friend, Cervus, and Ardea. Rosa walked away from the group to the rosebush after the queen left, and accused me of casting a spell on the king. I am not quite sure why, but she seems to think I am most evil, but when I told her I could not cast magic, she seemed to notice her own idiotic statement. Sadly, this didn't last. She called me evil as she left. It is tempting to not suggest otherwise and let her wade in her ignorance. Last night as my Kithain was crawling into bed with me (which I allow since I am a child and we enjoy one another's company) we heard a strange noise. As we searched the room, I found that in the many years that the castle had remained empty, three mice had made a tiny hole in my wall. At first I thought to rid myself of the pests, but my Kithain advised against it- she said they were living like us, and just trying to survive. I admit I wasn't taken at first by the idea, but she has a point- and so I let them stay. When I crawled over to them, they were at first heistant, but then one of the two gray ones sniffed my hand and let me pet it. Perhaps I should say yesterday I made two friends. I am off now to find my tiny companions some food. My Kithain placed a bowl of water out for them, and her reassuring nature has them venturing out, although skitteshly, for small amounts of time. Yours, Aesculus

July 12, 2004Ahnna The soft, delicate taps of sound that Rosa made as she near silently moved down the corridors headed twords Aesculus' chamber echoed until the young "Future Countess" came into view.
She was clothed for the middle of the night, her hair unbraided for once but PERFECTLY groomed and brushed behind her back. She looked around with a somewhat sly expression, she had tried to remain stealth and unnoticed. This was partially the reason she had come so late at night in the first place. Muttering to herself for a moment, the effects of a simple concealment spell wore off as a letter and gothic black rose appeared in the folds of her soft, feminine, overly groomed hands. She set the rose ontop of the letter, then slipped letter and rose together beneath the door to the boy's chamber.
With that, she quickly came to her feet and moved back down the corridors twords her own chamber, a somewhat satisfied look plastered on her face as she dissapeared into the shadows.

July 19, 2004 ((Take Two: I didn't realize before I left for my retreat from July 16-18 that this post had been deleted when Gaia was "turned back a day and a half."))It appears that indeed Lady Rosa thinks that I am a secret spy of the moon court.. despite the fact I am his majesty's best friend and he mine, that none of the others have such suspicions, that there is no proof of this, and that I could not cast a spell on the king even should I have such a desire. I find this perhaps amusing, and while I considered telling the king, it appears that she isn't spreading this rumor or any others believe it- besides, Cervus has enough things to worry about. I have not denied these accusations directly, because I am hoping to let her drown in her own ignorance yet- I didn't honestly think she would send me a letter in the dead of night. Lady Sy is hanging the flower upside down from my ceiling, hoping to dry the rose out so as to make it decoration for the room. Despite the color, she finds it beautiful and says it matches my hair- she tries to see the best in people I suppose for her to think an admirer left it. The mice are now starting to wander out when they think we aren't watching. They have discovered the food and water, and the smallest of the three, a gray mouse, seems the most brave. He doesn't mind my gaze as he ventures out for food- perhaps his lack of human contact and now my kind treatment of the young creature has made him more trusting than the other two. The other day Lady Sy took me out with her shopping, and we got some odd looks. Neither myself or my "brother" Onuris look anything like my mother- and we all three make an odd trio. As she bought some food, she offered to get me some things. I admittedly found a few things I wanted, but did not need- and then Onuris said something more sagely than I suspected him of saying. He said a gift bought with the best intentions for a friend was never wasted- and then he and Lady Sy convinced me to get a few gifts for the other Fey. I got a couple extra in case some new Fey come out from under the curse. Yours Truly, Aesculus

July 22, 2004Yesterday I gathered all save one of the gifts, attatched hand-written notes, and carefully left them at the chamber doors of the other Fey. For Queen Lilium and Lady Rosa, some delicate fans- a black one with pink roses, made of lace, for Rosa and a purple one with small lavender flowers for the queen. For Ursa I had found a small "plushie" of a bear as Lady Sy called it- I got the gift before she arrived, so I had to guess at what she'd like. For Equus I purchased a sword, as all knights need a proper weapon. Alces recieved a "cabbit-bat"... an amusing creature that appears to be a mix of a cat and rabbit but with bat wings. He seems to sociable sort, so I thought it would help keep him company when the others are away. I came across a wand with green leaves and I could see Filix's hair and eyes in it, so I purchased her a wand with a vine wrapped about it. My dear king and good friend recieved a ball made of tiger's eye that is said to help look into past and future eyes resting atop a gold stand. There are tiny mouse footprints smudged here, as if one of them had stepped in the ink he was writing in and dragged it across the page diagnally. It felt better to deliver gifts after purchasing than I thought. I hadn't thought it necessary spending time making friends but Lady Sy pointed out I had little else to do and that "networking" with others is an invaluable way to gain future aid and absorb their wisdom. Sometimes her words are most profound. Perhaps this will even sway Rosa, though I somehow doubt it, that I am not quite as evil as she might think. The small inquisitive mouse has found all sorts of items in my room amusing, particularly the moving quill I write with. He has skittered across the room and tried jumping on the curtains as well- I am almost positive now that he is not just small, but young- perhaps a babe. Lady Sy is summoning me now- she wishes to go get something to eat, and I can not blame her- I am hungry as well. Yours, Aesculus

July 22, 2004 Role-playing log from Page 32 to 33 in the Castle Argentus thread.Synopsis: Rosa has taken a pot with a slightly droopy flower into the garden to plant it. Alces and Aesculus coincidentally happen upon her. When Rosa points to Aes and then the moon, he comments that she is right and the moonlight is beautiful, to which Alces agrees. Rosa, enraged, accuses Aesculus of being a spy for the moon court, stunning Alces. Alces reassures Aesculus that he doesn't believe her, and Aesculus leaves after Rosa stomps off so Alces won't feel guilty going to help her replant the flower.
