Mkay, backstory behind this question. I'm a techie and I was talking with my actor friend. I made a point how it's so unusual for someone like me, who's a very devout Christian to be involved in theatre (since most of the theatre kids at my school aren't religious). He made a point that he's noticed techies are usually more religious than actors (he's not religious at all), so I'm just wondering how true this is overall.
So, the question. What is you normal role in theatre (techie, actor, dancer, etc) and what religion are you?

I am both an actress and a techie, more actress than techie though. I am also a devout Christian so do not feel so alone. 3nodding

I'm Christian, not as devout as some, but I know several devout Christians in theatre...actors and techies alike, many of our theatre kids go to church together.

I know a lot of devout Christians in theatre. For some reason, boys are springing to the mind more so than girls. I know of a lot of dancers that are pretty damn Christian.
I also know a lot of jewish actors. Hooray for stereotype affirmation.
I myself am Wiccan, more ecclectic than anything. I have a lot of pre-show rituals that surround it: praising the Muses, praying to Brigid, even deep meditation and self-hypnosis to help myself prepare for going onstage. Not that the last two have anything to do with religion at all, but they help me with my preparedness.

I'm highly agnostic. Most of my theatre nerd friends are the same, though I know a few who are from rather devout families...either Catholic or Jewish.

I'm a Catholic. I don't think that most people would call me devout, as I don't go to mass or confession or anything of the sort. Also, I have my opinions. I'm all for Mary M and gay rights. But then again, I'm all for the Madonna/Virgin/Virgen/Mary. I'm an actor.

I'm an actor/honorary techie (as in, I've done tech, so the techies at my school don't group me with the Stupid Actors ^_^). But my religion is...interesting. There's a huge, long backstory behind it, but I'm an Alexist. Don't ask. The point is, I don't think there's a direct connection between theatre and religion, but I think it *may* be (I have no research, data, etc. to back it) that those who aren't devout Christians/Jews/Muslims/etc may feel freer to do things onstage (or offstage) than those who are devout. If you're devout, then you take the morals of your religion to heart more than most, and that could limit your willingness to do whatever it takes to become someone else onstage.

I agree with you, but I just thought I'd ask everyone here on their thoughts. Because in our theatre major studies class we have some religious people and then some not-so-religious people. One of my best friends is in TMS and he's about as devout as I am (and to clarify, I mean I attend Sunday school, church service, churhc choir and youth group Sundays and then a Bible study Wednesday night. I usually book about seven hours a week at church and then spend another two or three a week doing my Bible study reading). However, I'm still pretty liberal I support gay marriage, I'm pro-choice, very not Christain right... since they're kinda annoying. Mkay, not sure where all that came from XD But I do agree. My friends who aren't as devout don't have a problem making out on/back stage while um... I would XD Hahaha. I was just curoius to see if there was any corilation.

I'm Catholic and i work in the pit (i play bassoon) and i act in plays. I'm pretty devout, i go to church every week and pray daily.
i do belive in gay rights and abortion in some cases and i have a really open mind about other religions.
our school has a variety of religious and not religious people. we recently did grease and the guy playing kenickie and his sister who was playing sandy are mormon. once i heard they threatened to walk out on the play because almost everyone was being profane and vulgar and that just wasn't what they wanted.
