Well, I hear people say that their Chinese and some say that their Taiwanese. xd Personally, I think that their the same. 3nodding But, shouldn't it be Chinese because Taiwan isn't it's own country yet so, you can't really be Taiwanese can you? whee I know Chinese who consider themselves Chinese and some that consider themselves Taiwanese. I even know some Chinese that consider themseleves Chinese saying that they think who ever calls themselves Taiwanese is stupid. But, once again I don't really care what people think of themselves.
So! Do you consider yourself Chinese or Taiwanese? question ninja

*reads previous comments* I wish people would read the first post before posting. A lot of these comments don't have anything to do with the actual topic.
I consider myself Taiwanese. Despite the fact that Taiwan is technically owned by China: -It it still regarded by the majority of persons in the world as its own country -Its government is not in accordance with China's -If China ever decides to "take back" Taiwan, the U.S. has an obligation to defend Taiwan. This means that Taiwan is currently regarded as its own body.
Simply put, China is only the titular "owner" of Taiwan.

I consider myself Taiwanese as well, and agree with XShadowMistressX's points (although I think there is some contention on the language of the 1945 treaty terms regarding Japan handing Formosa back to China, not to mention how Japan obtained Formosa in the first place...). In addition to that, I don't see how saying that I'm Taiwanese would be stupid in any way. I was born in Taiwan, hence Taiwan is my native land. Don't some people call themselves Shanghai-nese (Shang hai ren), or Californian, or New Yorker? Same deal.

*Blinks* I'm not fully understanding what the first poster was getting at. But I consider Taiwanese as part of the puzzle that makes up Chinese, since Chinese aren't all the same. China is a diverse country, whether people can see it or not, each reigion of the country has it's own traditions and celebrations. Since we have people that consider themself Shanghai-nese, Han, Hakka, Cantonese, Tibetan, etc..
So Taiwanese is overall Chinese..
