So let me tell you my bizarro situation.

So I'm pretty much going to Heidelberg College in the fall. They've got a pretty good theatre department, which they've been thinking about expanding, but it wasn't official until about a week ago, when I visited, which they decided to tell me as an afterthought. I was ok with that, they didn't really know how interested I would be in a musical theatre track.

I was. Very, actually, so they sent me a packet of information. Including an audition form, which kind of shocked me, I don't know why. They don't audition regular theatre students, but whatever. Point is, they're auditioning me. I have to be one of the 8 best students of like 50 clammoring to get in, plus like 15 incoming freshmen on the theatre track trying out.

My audition is on May 6. I'm kinda feeling like I'm going to die because I have no idea what I'm going to do.

I have to have two contrasting monologues. Comic and serious or modern and classical. Not to exceed 4 minutes.

The songs are uptempo and ballad selections. I'm mezzo soprano to alto if you guys are up to helping me in that aspect.

Please help me. I choke auditions. I'm so scared. gonk

For comic, definitely go with something from Chris Durang.

As in Beyond Therapy Christopher Durang? I shall have to find some of his things....I would have never thought. Thank you, PensivePine.

Whatever you do, don't do a classical. At this point, because of when your audition is, it is too late to use one for your audition. You won't have it as good as you could if you had more time to prepare. Where the first choice of what the monologues can be will serve you more justice. What are your favorite plays?

I'm college searching at the moment, so I know what it feels like to have to find a monlogue and find one fast. I (saldy) havent' found mine, but according to all the boring-as-all-get out-brouchers I've read you should do something you absolutly love that is within your age range and isn't by George Bernard Shaw.

But I'm posotive you knew all that all-ready.

good luck

P.s.- If you go with Classical, and your sick of Shakesphere, try using Moliere.

Favorite plays....s**t. Shakespeare. Uhhhmmm....well I'm a big fan of Waiting for Godot, which doesn't help me much, OH WOW. The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds has a BUNCH of good monologues in it....rockin'. I can totally do that.

For a comedy I've got a mono. From a play called "Animal Crackers". The play was written by George Kaufman and Morrie Rysland. Technically it's a musical but the mono. isn't from a song so it should be ok. one question, what is the minimum time restriction?

as or a serious mono., i can't think of any off the top of my head...
but i like this website...

it's got some good stuff.

I really good serious monologue would be in Steel Magnolias in Act 2 with M'Lynn. when she is talking about Shelby's death. If done right it can be a real tear jerker.
