Remember Tamagotchi? Have a penchant for loose socks and sock glue? Or you just wanna know what's hot now? Let's talk about Japanese trends! xd

I don't know how detailed this will get, so I guess I'll just start a touchstone conversation....

Trends that annoy me: stressed sweatdrop

Pe Yon-sama: The star of the mega-popular "Fuyu no Sonata". He is the forerunner of the current "Korean Invasion", a bevy of hot young soap stars crossing over to Japan. He is frequently in gum and chocolate commercials. While he is the god of romance to the frumpy Japanese housewives, I think he looks like an Asian Harry Potter. xp What is particularly fun about his popularity, is that many comedians imitate him or his show. Fun Fact: Most of the Koreans I know don't really like him! surprised

Matsuken Samba!: The first time I saw this guy perform, I turned to my husband and cried "What the hell is that!?" He just looked at me, smiled, and shrugged. Everytime this guy performs, I can't help but feel embarrassed for him. Samurai turned Vegas showguy. Yeah. BTW he was the final act on a music awards show. In the audience filled with pop stars (including Destiny's Child), the camera seemed to zoom in on the gigglers. Go download the song, it's catchy.

Trends I enjoy:

Guitar Samurai: He is just what he's called. A samurai in kimono, playing a guitar. A comedic singer, he frequently makes cracks at celebrities (Pe Yon-sama!), and on a performance on Music Station, he stole the show with the full length version of his song. His catch phrase is "iu janaiiiiiii" in a voice reminicent of Keanu Reeves ala Bill and Ted. It's hilarious, you must download this track too! He song is basically this year's "Nan de darou" (Tetsu and Tomo).

Magic Card Tricks: This trend is sweeping all of Japanese talk shows. There are a few magicians who make frequent appearances, but the forerunner is this guy who wear's bowling shirts (forgot his name). Some of the stuff they do is absolutely mind-boggling! eek

Trends I'm on the fence about:

Brand Craze: Men and women, young and old, brand name items and clothing has gripped Japan for years. The Tokyo streets are literally a living Louis Vuitton catalog. There are 18-year-old girls, fresh out of highschool, decked in thousands of yen of Dior and Coach accessories, out buying more. Where most of these eternal shoppers get their money mystifies me. Nearly every woman has AT LEAST one Louis Vuitton accessory or purse (LV being the cream of the brand-name crop). While I would never dream of buying brand items month after month after month... I must admit that after my first visit to Japan, the bug bit me, and I now own 5 bags of various brands.... sweatdrop

I like the look of loose socks, but I don't know if I'd want to have to use glue to keep them up. eek But I believe it's almost necessary. gonk

Unfortunately, I don't know about a lot of japanese trends, so I can't really say what I think of the current ones. xp I did however hear of this new japanese singer.. I think her name is Ami something, but I hear she's not very good, but has a popular show. confused Sorry for the vague descrition.

I'm really big into asian clothes, not just Japanese ones, Korean clothing too. We have a shop in my town called Para-mix! It's so cute. It's all Japanese and Korean clothes. There so different and unique... stuff you can't find in regualr american and canadian stores. ^^ It indulges my super unique personality! I haven't been able to look at the bags though... dang it.

About the Louis Vuitton... I'm also wondering where they get all this money. I need to find out their secret! I've heard that Samantha bags are popular too... and not to mention cellphones... whee

I love Japanese products!!!!

You know what trends I like, I like an gangaro girl trend and para para dances. LOL. The one I'm the fence about it the Harajuku fashions, it's wacky, but at least they have their own taste.

I wouldn't mind having an authentic tamagotchi. Aren't they coming back in style? Ones that can be used online...

OMG Yeah the DISNEY! I can't believe there are high school girls with baby-ish Disney accessories hanging from their necks, keitai, and bags. It makes me sick. If a girl had that in an American high school, everyone'd give her a hard time about it.

They are obsessed with the Disney princesses!!!! And that girl cat from the Aristocats.

It's like here, where all the highschoolers are wearing Hamtaro and Hello Kitty ><

And.. I <3 Tamagotchis~ I had a "custom" one because we had to swap out the buttons on mine, so it was yellow with pink buttons. XD I may just have to buy another one >.>

And... I want loose socks T-T But I would have to buy weird man-socks until I can afford to go to Seattle and wander around Japan-town. Plus, I think I would always want to take them off, since they'd almost always be falling off XD

And... Mmmm.. Ganguro girls >< We have those here. They're called whores. And... Stuff. I dunno. I think tan people look.. weird. But then again, my skin reflects sun, so I never tan 3nodding

What's creepy is when the Ganguro girls bleach their hair until it's really blonde. Then they get a tan! It looks so wierd... I s that supposed to be attractive? Boy Oh boy... 30 years from now, I'll bet they'll have skin cancer. eek

I know >< So creepy. Like.... I first heard of Ganguro in the manga Peach Girl because the main character tans easy and has light hair and... blah. It's a super manga.

My mom always tells me to get out and be tan... And I tell her I don't want skin cancer ^^

Anyone heard of Bape (Short for "Bathing Ape") shoes? They are pretty much the Japanese Nikes. I went to this nifty store in the mall called "Workmens" and saw them on the rack near the Forces. They may be expensive, but these glossy shoes are definitely worth the money. I already have 3 pairs! <----------Brand name guy...

I love most of the Japanese fads, though the only makeup trend I have ever found fault with is the red eyeliner of Winter 03.
