Reiku handed the young man working at the Java Jump, the coffee kiosk, his ID and lifing the paper cup to sip on his iced cappuccino. The boy smiled as he passed the card back after scanning it, but Reiji's face remained impassive. The boy sighed as Reiku returned his ID to his wallet.
"You come here everyday, you get the same thing, and you never smile no matter how nice I am to you."
Reiku blinked behind the screen of spiky red hair, sipping once more from his drink before responding.
"I have nothing to smile about, your kindness aside...er...whatever your name is. Frankly, I don't see what you have to be so damn chipper about. You're a prisoner here like the rest of us, but you grin and giggle like your having the time of your life. It makes me sick." He groaned, knowing he had said too much. His mouth had gotten away from him again. it was why he didn't talk to people. He always said something that was better off kept in his head.
Much to his surprise, the coffee boy was not the least bit taken aback. He merely shrugged, resting his elbows o the counter of the poratable coffeehouse.
"See you tomorrow, Inoue-san."he replied mildly. Reiku frowned slightly before walking away. That kid was weird.

Ariko stepped up to the counter and the boy greeted him.
"Yeah, you know what that guy gets?" Ariko pointed to Reiku standing a short distance away. "Give me one of those, and let me have a peppermint chai and a...two oatmeal raisin cookies."
Ariko was determined to make good on his promise to replace Reiku's ********, but he wasn't too happy about it. He hated spending his credits on Reiku, somehow or another he always got talked into buying a coffee for him. But he did consider him a friend, he was someone to break the routine of his boring 'school' life.

Reiku made his way over to the kiosk for the second time today. When the clerk smiled at him again he blinked.
"So, you do have friends, Inoue-san. That's good to know. " He set the ice cappuccino on the counter and Reiku quickly snaathed it up.
"Arigato, Sato-san. I'll see you sometime later." He ipped at his drink through the straw before heading back out the union. He paused midstep, turning slightly to face Ariko again.
"Oi, Sato! Don't forget to pick up that shirt off your floor....you wouldn't want it to start to mold or anything." Raising his hand in parting he left the student union, not waiting for Ariko to get his own purchases. He was abrupt like that. By all rights, Ariko should be more than used to that sort of thing by now.

"I should've known. See you later Rei. Don't eat the tacos if you know what's good for you."
Ariko retrieved his tea and cookies and began to walk away. He turned and waved the cookies at the clerk. He knew Reiku would just leave, he was just like that. Get what he wants and he's on his way.
"Have a good day."
He turned around and went throgh the glass doors to the hallway.

"I'll have a caramel double espresso and an almond biscotti. And whatever the lady may have also. Put it all on here."
Sanzo pulled his ID out of his breast pocket and set it on the counter. He took his espresso and added a sugar packet to it.
"Sometimes you need a little extra something to stay up. Go ahead, don't be shy. Tell him what you want, I said it was my treat."
Sanzo smiled at Gwen and nodded towards the clerk.

Gwen nodded. "thanks." she said again to Sanzo. "Um I'll have what he's having.." she said to the clerk. She accepted the cup and took a sip. "Wow, that's good. By the way, mind sharing, what are you in here for?" she said.

"Uh...do you really want to know? Usually people run away when they hear what happened. And I don't think there's a nice way to say 'I stabbed a kid in the neck with a scalpel during biology.' Is there?"
He took a sip of espresso and continued.
"Since I was usually the butt end of jokes, he decided it would be a good one to dump a tray of frog guts on me during discection day. I couldn't help it, I just snapped."
He stirred his biscotti in his espresso and took a bite. It still crunched after being soaked in the caramel flavored brew.
"Nothing like a good piece of biscotti, oh were was I, yeah, so I had the scalpel in my hand and I just spun around and, well, the jugular shoots blood about 17 feet if you rupture it. The next thing I know, I'm running out the school, still holding the damn scalpel and a cop tackles me. When we fell, he landed on the scalpel.''
Sanzo stirred the biscotti again, bit it, and followed it with a sip of his espresso.
"Next thing I know, no trial, no conviction, I was 14 when I woke up in 'admissions'. I found out real quick to just keep my cool here and put up with the pranks. I don't want to be 'expelled', won't be good for me, or whoever I'm linked with."
He lightly tapped the collar as he spoke of expulsion. He just told the whole story, and waited to see the girl bolt from the room. Most people ran, so it didn't bother him too much. That's why he never really talked to anyone about it. Cyn knew, but that was about it.

Gwen's eyes went wide. She took a huge gulp of the hot espresso and choked on it. She coughed uncontrollably, gasping for breath. When she was alright again, she took a deep breath. "A scalpel eh? I'm sure plenty of people have worse stories here...Well, frog guts would do that to me too I suppose." She flashed back to the time she had to dissect the frog. "When we did our frogs, I was "excused" because I walked in, smelled the fremeldihide, saw the spread eagled frog and barfed..." she said, "the teacher didn't want to have to deal with me after that."

"I wish I could have just barfed all over his head. That would have been classic."
Sanzo chuckled at the thought of hurling his lunch all over that kid. He wouldn't be in Midori that's for damn sure.
"But, you can't change the past, just look forward to the future. If you let the past haunt you, you're doomed to repeat it."
He drank the last few swallows of the espresso and chewed the bits of biscotti that broke off into the bottom.
"Ah, the end of a fine snack. Well I really must be going, homework won't do itself. Let's do this again sometimes. I'm in B-7 if you need me. If you need some help with anything come see me."
Sanzo waved to Gwen and walked out the glass doors of the union.

Gwen smiled to Sanzo. "Yeah, that sounds good. Talk to you tomarrow!" she called after him. She sat for a few minutes longer and finished her coffee, before yawning. Wow, guess I should go to bed soon... she realized how long a day she'd had.

Ariko approached the coffee stand in the union and smiled at the boy behind the counter.
"Hello today, I need a peppermint chai, an icedmochadohickey, and what the hell does he drink...oh yeah, gimme a mango smoothie."
As the boy turned around to prepare the drinks, Ariko reached into his pocket and retrieved his ID. He gave the card to the boy, he scanned it promptly returned it to Ariko's hand.
"Hey buddy, what's your favorite cookie here"
"I like the walnut biscotti, it's pretty damn good." The boys eyes li t up as though he could almost taste the cookie melting in his mouth.
"Okay, gimme four of them." Ariko presented the card and picked up 3 of the cookies. "Thanks for your help, that ones yours since you like them so much. Have a nice day."
He placed the cookies in the center of the cup carrier and walked out the doors to the hallway on his way back to Sanos room. ======> B-12

"Well, here we are...I usually don't come here to after 4, when my classes have wrapped up. I feels kinda weird being here so early." Reiku rubbed the back of his neck as he looked up and down the area. Automatically his eyes drifted to the tiny kiosk dubbed the Java Jump. The student clerk was there, and he noticed Reiku almost immediately. He looked surprised, but then waved at the boy. Reiku blushed with a frown. Not waving back.

Michael nodded at what Reiku said. When he saw the man wave, he became curious. "Hey, who's that? He seems to know you, ne?" There was no suspision in Michael's voice, just cuiousity and intrigue. He genuinly wanted to know, but he did not feel threatened.
