Lately I've been in a bad habit of reading more than one book at a time. I find the variety wonderful, but I don't find that it allows me to focus on one story and plot at a time. Does anyone else do this? I never used to have the problem... @.@

It usaly happens when your styles of books change. I went through it when I was in the middle of a classic and suddenly found I loved Fantesy. I was reading the classic and some fantesy books at the same time because I wanted to finish the classic, I hate stopping in the middle of a book to read a different one.

I used to do that when I was younger. My mind couldn't focus on just one story. I would only read about two or three different books at once, though.

I used to do it more frequently when I was younger, but sometimes my schoolwork forces me to read textbooks at the same time as books for pleasure. Right now I am reading five books.

Hm. Actually, I'm quite the opposite of most of the people who have posted. I used to be absolutley staunch against doing that sort of thing when I was younger, making absolutley sure I only read one thing at a time. Now, however, I find I don't mind as much, as the two books are usually of such widely varrying genres that it's not hard to distinguish them. For instance, right now I'm reading both Jane Eyre and a rather good steampunk novel, Perdido Street Station. Not hard to keep the two separated. surprised

I don't usually read more than three at a time. Just in case I get to a slow part of one, or a particularly depressing scene in the other. The variety is wonderful, but sometimes you just need to sit down and finish one!

I always read several books at once and no matter how complicated their stories are, I never get confused. Right now I'm reading Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allen Poe, Terry Pratchett, Dan Brown, and Ryu Murakami at the same time. biggrin

It's a horrible habit & I know I shoulds stop, but I just can't seem to. Part of it is due to the fact that I'll be in different moods for certain books but I'll want to finish all of them. I'm reading 5 right now, I'll probably never finish all of them. Agh, books are the bane of my existence.

I'm reading the WoT series right now, and I really have to focus on it, because it's getting more and more complicated. But I also read a book at school, during the breaks. They are soooooooo boring. But I read books that don't really have story in them. Then I can perfectly understand WoT 9 too. rolleyes

Every once in a while I'll do that. Usually when I'm losing interest in the book I'm reading, so I pick something else up.

I used to do it all the time but I've gotten out of the habit now. I never had much of a problem keeping the stories straight. Actually, maybe I'll start up again...

I can read two or three at a time and still keep the stories straight.
