Dearest Diary,

I am sorry for having neglected you for so long, but my absence from this house was of absolute importance. Yesterday, I found a most charming man, who as is custom I shall only identify as G~. He is intelligent and he makes me smile so as I haven't since Victor left Nicholai with me.

But mother is gone and I must take her place or so my aunt tells me. So I have written him a letter. I hope he does not take the news too badly. But I have come home now and I sit here writing, despite the shot I recieved on the trip back, my enemies are as strong and alive as ever. It is with much regret I had to write that letter, but I cannot involve him in this.

Dearest Diary,

I have to tell V, even if he believes her a whore, she is still his mother. He never wanted to be in the army, but his father believed it best for him. I can only hope that he isn't truly a rebel spy like I've heard. Rumor mills abound about him.

I shall go in my widow's weeds, so hopefully it will delay any reaction to my reappearance. Hopefully after tonight's meeting, I can at least make it up to G~. It wasn't even a completely agreed upon contract yet, but I feel like he deserves something.
