Ok, so everyone knows there are, or at least seem to be, almost innumerable different Gods & Goddess in Hinduism. That being said, I figured it might be cool to have a discussion about the different Gods of Sanatana Dharma, and specifically our favorite ones/ones we personally worship. My personal favorite is Shiva, which makes sense I guess, seeing as I'm a Raja/Gnani yogi. Shiva is the god of death and destruction, which, when you consider what the object of yoga is, makes perfect sense, since you are trying to break through the barriers between you and God. This, of course, leads to my favorite Avatar, at least in Hinduism, Krishna. Although I guess you could make the arguement that Siddartha Guatama is a Hindu avatar as well, but that may just be getting of into subject matter for a different thread entirely.

Well, seeing as I am a Child of Kali, obviously I greatly prefer Kali- goddess of Time and War (as well as fertility- though that's a little hard to explain.) As of yet, I have not had the pleasure of intense meditaion on her, nor have I had the pleasure of a proper teacher. I hope to be able to discuss her in more depth, as well as the little known Children of Kali. (Not the stupid movie though. XP)

I have an affinity for Krishna personally, though he appears in multiple religions.

Ganesha was the first Hindu god that really "spoke" to me, he basically started my interest in researching the religion.

I seem to have an affinity for Hanuman, Ganesha and Shiva. Perhaps it's because we share something in common.

Krishna and Sarasvati for me. But I hate spelling them in English. The "a" bugs me to no end.

I connect well to the Ganesha as well. Largely because I tend to hold both Ganesha and Tara (from Buddhism) as similar beings in that they both remove obstacles. This speaks directly to my own mental obscurations.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Ramayana? and is Rama also a god too? I like the Ramayana for some reason. I also like Shiva too.

Shokai Can anyone tell me anything about the Ramayana? and is Rama also a god too? I like the Ramayana for some reason. I also like Shiva too. If you've read the Ramayana, you know Rama is an avatar - he's a human incarnation of Vishnu, who specifically incarnated in such a way to get through the loophole Ravana the Rakshasa king had left in his invulnerabilities when he named them as boons from Siva and Brahma. After naming pretty much everything else, the goof neglected to claim invulnerability from humans. 3nodding

Well, this thread is crap, so the only way to revive this is to bring in kickass idolatry.
My favorite is Agni Virabhadhra, primarily because that is XTREME FOCUSED RAGE, YO. Plus, in select temples, like the Madurai Meenakshi temple (not a word, Dino), devotees get to throw balls of butter at Agni Virabhadra statues, so as to cool him down and NOT INCUR HIS FIERY WRATH.

I very strongly spiritually identify and spiritually connect with Lord Hanuman, Lord Rama, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Krishna.

Hanuman took a whole new twist for me after reading the Ramayana. The guy is not only the most loyal vanara ever, but he bathes himself in the blood of enemies. Well, at least during the war on Lanka - wrenches the head off one of their generals, and annoints himself in the gore.
Quite a mental image, that.

None of this wussy-pansy "plague of locusts" crap. Head off-wrenching. It makes a point. Struck by lightning in 3...2...

I practice Shaktism, and I'm a devotee of the Three Shaktis - Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Kali. Basically I worship all the forms of the Great Goddess as one .. for example, if I need to calm my mind, Saraswati is the one to whom I think on. If strength is needed, I meditate on Durga. But I love them all the same, as one Goddess. ^^; I am also a devotee of Shiva as Her counterpart.
