It was early morning in the lands, and even though spring was getting warmer and warmer, a cool mist was rising up from the fields. The sky looked dark, which made for an awkward moment of awakening, and it threatened much rain in the later afternoons. Faint rolls of thunder in the far distance could be heard, and the earth smelt of rain. He did not expect it to rain quite so soon however, and the large black male had subsequently set himself off for a bit of a patrol. It was slow, almost haphazard walk- and presently, it had lead him into a large and stretched out field.

With such peculiar things going on, the typically concerned and plotsome male found himself remarkably at ease. He was not sure exactly what had lead to this sentiment, but he found no urging in him to worry too much. He sill had his caution- but he was much more reserved then perhaps even he might have thought himself capable of. Ironic, perhaps, at best.

But even without his troubles, Phib still found himself with a headache and a generally disheveled appearance in the early mornings. Perhaps some rain would do him good.

Lately, the adventure-seeking pup had found himself straying further and further away from the freelands he knew so well. His need for fun and excitement was by far larger than the rational side of his brain. The last time Tzufit had found himself exploring, it was in the middle of a blizzard which, to others, might have been a bit dangerous - but Tzu loved a challenge.

Today was like any other. The small pup had woken from beneath a large pine tree early in the morning. The air was heavy, almost dirty, and needing cleansing. It was a good day for a thunderstorm, Tzufit thought to himself.

With that in mind, he let out a biiig yawn and stretched every part of his body he could, picked himself up and started trotting. As he began to travel, a slight wind picked up that smelled slightly salty to him, and Tzu could not figure out why or where it was coming from. It was in his nature to investigate, and so - sticking his snout into the air to get a better whiff - the ball of green fur headed southward to what he would soon know as the 'ocean.'

Tzufit had seen the near-black shadow lurking nearby, but had paid no attention. He wanted to find where the salt was coming from, and so stuck his snout to the ground and began maniacally sniffing.

It wasn't until the adult wolf spoke that Tzu was startled from his state of concentration. The deep voice sounded strangely familiar, and the pup instantly knew he had met this wolf before.

Straying in the bushes for a few moments, using his green backside as camouflage, he managed to squeak out a few words, "I-I was just heading...uh...that way." He poked his nose southwards, sticking his head out from the bushes so it looked like he was growing out of the ferns.

The ocean? Tzufit had never heard that word before. He tumbled out of the bushes and cocked his head at the adult.

"Can you show me?" He said with his eyes full of wonder. If it was as good as it smelled, then the place couldn't be all that bad... "Phib?"
He had remembered! Memories rushed back to the young wolf of the night of the blizzard during the winter, when the two had last met. It had to be the same wolf, there was no one else like Phib.

Tzufit wagged his tail excitedly and whined softly out of sheer amazement of the reconciliation.

Tzufit wiggled with excitement as he answered Phib, "No, I've never seen it before. Is it big?" he asked, moving forward more, "I've never actually been farther than the forest..."

He was slightly ashamed at never being outside of the forest, but he tried to hide that from Phib. Making good impressions was important to the young wolf and, although he had met this one before, the adult always seemed so...so important. Tzufit wanted to make his visit count in one way or another.

Eager to go, he bounced towards Phib, "So which way are we going?"

The long male shifted, and considered that for a moment with the flick of an ear. He could not say that it went on forever, as was the typical belief. He did not think it possible, even if he had said it himself. Things could not go forever and ever, or else, life would go on forever and ever as well. "Well..." Phib contemplated, and shifted his tail. "It goes on forever, I'd imagine. Perhaps not, but it seems to. Never go and swim in it with the intention of reaching the other side." He warned sternly. "In fact, it can be dangerous to swim in at times as well. Not like other water- the ocean is an angry creature. Nothing can drink it either, so it never dries up." This seemed logical to him, although it was perhaps not so logical in reality.

"We can go south, if you'd like. There is ocean there, and it is not too rocky like the other shores." It was the same area Rio frequented, and the sand was much more relaxing then the smooth stone.

But despite this, another idea was welling into the old king's mind. He knew that he had seen Tzufit around before, and perhaps, he had even asked him this question before. Tzufit looked older now, at least. Not so much a puppy as when they had first met. But still, so young to be on his own. "Are you traveling with anyone, Tzufit?" Phib questioned as they walked.

(( Sorry about the late reply x3 ))

Tzufit rolled Phib's words around in his mind. Forever? That was certainly a new concept to him. He found it hard to imagine such a huge entity that never ended. So...it went on forever, you can't swim in it, can't drink from it...he began to wonder what exactly the ocean was for, exactly. Naturally, it was slightly confusing to him, but his curiousity made him want to see it even more.

His ears perked up when Phib asked if he was traveling with anyone. "Well, I wasn't, until now of course." Laughing quietly at his lame joke, Tzu continued, "I've always explored by myself. When I was younger I had an older sister - she looked over me a lot. But one day she just never came home and I've been alone ever since!" His story sounded sad, but then he perked up - "But I always liked being alone. I get to roll around in the mud as much as I want to...having friends is fun too, though," he added quickly.

Tzufit nodded his head, "She was always a bit...distant...so when she left, I didn't mind being on my own. It was nice to have her around, though." He especially liked having her around in the winter, when it was cold, but thinking of the past put a cloud over his cheerful mood. Instead, he grinned at Phib's comment.

"Yes, actually - I did enjoy myself. You should try it sometime, get your paws dirty!" He was tempted to fling some dirt Phib's way, but looking at the adult's in-charge manner, thought that over again and decided to pass.

"So how far is the ocean anyway?" Tzufit inquired.

The smell of sea salt burst onto Tzufit's face as the two stepped onto the beach. Shocked by the new landscape, he didn't quite know what to do. There was a strange footing beneath his paws, moving with his weight, and was cool to the touch. He flexed his paws around the speckled tan dirt and breathed in the fresh mist that clung to his tri-colored fur.

The oncoming storm kept Tzufit in a daze as the deep blue water broke upon the limestone and shattered into white specks, disappearing back on the surface of the water. A strong wind blew, scattering fragments of sand and brush into the air, battering a small twig against Tzufit's muzzle. The sudden action knocked him from his trance, and - realizing how wet he had become - shook the water droplets from his coat.

"Wow," was all he could manage to say, as his gaze drifted upwards towards the threatening wall of clouds overhead.
