Guest Starring: Chiitra Weatherly (Mordavrin)

Rashne Kusani (Midnight_Medea)
The sun shone brightly as Ra ran through the Aquilla campus. His feet pounding in time with the music from his headphones. He had woken early for the third day in a row. The nightmares were back and there was nothing he could do to stop them. Running always helped him clear his head. Completely lost in the music and the rhythm of his feet he passed into the shade of the imposing buildings.

Chiitra Whetherly (Mordavrin)
Slipping on her VERY comfortable, yet not so stylish black lounge pants, a light pink t-shirt with a kitty on it, and her jeans jacket Chii slipped out of the sleeping dorm and quietly made her way across campus.
Through some research and even more eavesdropping, Chii had learned of a small bakery only a few minutes from Aquila. Back home in New Delhi she'd become accustomed to waking up early on saturday mornings and walking herself to the bakery around the corner for some fresh bread and pastries.
It was a guilty pleasure she'd never mentioned to anyone.

Ra
As Ra approached the vicinity of the dorms he paused for a moment to re-tie his hair. During his run irritating strands had worked themselves free from the band that restrained them. Hair under control he looked up to determine his next path. Over in the distance he caught sight of Chiitra emerging from the dorms.

Wondering what she was doing up so early he decided to jog over and find out. Slowing down as he approached her he called her name.
"Hey Chiitra!"

Chii
Off in her own little world, daydreaming about hot freshly baked rolls Chiitra had little to no idea that someone was behind her. So when Ra suddenly broke the silence it made her jump. Clasping her hand to her chest she turned around to look at Ra.

"Ra! Don't ever do that again. I could have had a heart attack and died!!!!" she puffed, a small smile forming at the side of her mouth. "but....seeing as how I didn't. Hi!! How are you?"

The smile spread across her face, and she stuck her hands in the hoodies pockets. She casually noticed that he really was wearing a lot of clothes for running. Didn't he get hot?

Ra
"Sorry didn't mean to scare you." Ra smiled at her ability to be so bubbley at this hour in the morining.
"I'm glad you didn't die too. That would have ruined my day." He grinned taking out his earphones and turning his cd player off. Suddenly he was very aware of the beads of sweat trickling down his back, wincing he wiped his sleeve across his forehead, he was dripping. "I'm alright. Couldn't sleep. New bed and all. How come you're up so early?"

Chii
For some reason Chii blushed when Ra said the bit about her death runing his day, it was a light blush, but a blush nonetheless. Becoming suddenly more aware of herself she moved onto the next topic quickly.

"Oh really? You know you can move your own in if you want? That's what I ended up doing. I just have to have my down!" she laughed, but was totally serious. "Me? What am I doing up this early? oh, well you know..." There was no getting out of this time. She was going to have to fess up once and for all.

"I'm on a secret mission to find freshly baked bread and pastries." she sighed, what a relief.

Ra
Ra looked at the floor. Not wanting to admit that his parents had insisted on him having his own bed moved in. He would have to think of a different excuse next time.

Smiling he took note of the pause she took before confessing her early morning mission. What was so shameful about a quest for good baked products?
"Sounds delicious." He said pausing to yawn. "I know I'm not particularly fit for human company..." He laughed wiping his forehead once more. "But...would you mind if I joined you?"

Chii
Chii looked up from where she'd been staring at the ground, then suddenly took a step towards Ra, hands clenched together underneath her chin.

"The fact that i'm addicted! That's what's wrong with it. I can't help myself. I end up eating soo much." Her hands dropped to her side, and her gaze drifted, but was brought back by his kind words, her eyes twinkling.

"You, you want to come along!?!?" she leaned forward and grabbed his arms. "Why yes! I'd love it if you joined me!"

Being so close, she was acutely aware of how much heat he was radiating. The clean smell of sweat mixed with his natural scent was....attractive? WTF? she thought to herself as she quickly took a few steps backward.
"Um...aren't you boiling in all those clothes...why don't you take one of the shirts off?"

Ra
Ra tensed as she grabbed his arms and was instantly glad when she backed away. He did not want a repeat of his last school. The teasing, the name calling. Recovering swiftly from the contact he forced a smile.
"Yeah. It is a bit hot. I just...I thought it was colder outside." He replied colouring slightly at the suggestion that he should remove layers. "So...a pastry addiction?" He grinned glad of another subject to focus on. "I'll come as your safety net. If you start to get to attatched to the sweet goodness I'll drag you away." He said pushing the sleeves of his under shirt up so he didn't make her feel to uncomfortable with his warm clothing.
"Lead the way."

Chii
"Right..." she cooed then smiled. "..that makes sense. "

Instead of leading the way, she skipped over to Ra and linked her right arm through his and began to walk. She'd always walked this way with her friends so it seemed totally natural to her.
"I "Yes, it's terrible. I just can't....it's too delicious!" she sighed, restin her head on his shoulder. "But having you there will probably subdue me. Just make sure, if you do drag me away, that I haven't hidden anything." Her face lit up, and she giggled.

"So, do you always run this early in the morning?"

Ra
Ra swallowed. It was o.k. Linking arms was o.k. The scars on the tops of his arms were minor, nothing she could feel. As she leant her head on his shoulder, he could feel his heart beating in his throat. Not because of his paranoia but because it was such an intimate gesture. In his home country there were probably laws about non related people of the opposite sex being this close.

Keep cool. He told himself as they walked along. This is what friends do here. Nothing to panic over.
"Sometimes." He managed finally. "I find it relaxing. If I can't sleep I usually go for a run. Do you run?"

Chii
Chii noticed the length of time it took for his to respond, but didn't pay any attention to it. She was notorious for drifiting off mid-sentence, perhaps Ra was the same. She lifted her head off his shoulder.

Her nose crinkled. "No, I mean, I do for socc..." She trailed off as the realization that she was alone with a guy hit her like a ton of bricks. She awkwardly un-linked her arm and prentended to have seen something on the ground. Her heart was nearly leaping out of her chest. Should she leave? Should she continue? How could she have been so careless. [I'm just lucky I noticed it before it was too late.] she thought, her mind racing.

Standing up, she looked ahead and pointed. "The bakery's just up there." Good, get to the bakery, there'll be people for sure. Sweat was begining to form on her brow.

Ra
Ra noticed the change in atmosphere as soon as she removed her arm from his. Chii had gone from her usual energetic self to being quiet and awkward. Ra wondered with concern if he had done anything wrong. He wasn't used to these unfamiliar friendship customs. Worrying he thought back to the previous conversations. Had he said something?
"Cool." He murmered as they approached the bakery desperatly thinking of a way to make her feel comfortable again.

Chii
She looked back at Ra, no doubt he was wondering what the heck was going on, and it did pain her that she couldn't tell him. That was the last thing she needed, more people feeling sorry for her and wanting to comfort her. It irritated her more than anything. She'd trusted Pyper with the knowledge and that would have to do for now.

Walking through the door the smell of bread invaded her nostrils prying them open, only to stuff them full of every delicious scent imaginable. The yeast was her favourite scent. Quickly she walked up to the counter and gazed at all the choices. A cheerful women with rosy cheeks approached her. "Why hello there. You two are up awfully early.." she smiled,
"What can I get for you?"

Chii looked back at Ra giddy as a schoolgirl.

Ra
Ra grinned back at Chii. This place was amazing. They had just about every kind of pastry in existance. He was torn between pain au chocolate and savoury coissants with what looked like real brie. Maybe he should get both? But then again he didn't want to look geedy.

Ah, what the hell. He was a guy. They were supposed to eat all the time.
"I'll have the Pain au chocolate please...and...um the cheese coissant, a coffee. What do you want Chii?"

Chii
Chii looked back at all the goodies. Her eyes flashing from one to the other...

"Oh, I'll have...hmm.....I'll have a jelly doughnut, and...." her finger tapped her lip. "I'll also have a Pan au chocolate....oh and a tea, please."

She wasn't very familiar with the Pain, which was the main reason she'd gotten it. She did know it had chocolate in it, and anything with chocolate was alright by her. Twiddling her fingers behind her back, she looked over at Ra. The early morning sun was casting a rather becoming light on it, almost making him appear like an angel. She sighed lightly, then spoke.

"Shall we sit?" Today was going to be a good day.

Ra
"Sure" Ra smiled. They took seats by the window that had a nice view over a small stretch of rice fields and several small old houses. Ra was glad that she seemed to be more relaxed again. Thinking back to their first meeting he tried to think of what she had mentioned she liked. Family...he remembered she had liked talking about and hearing about family.

Reaching into his bag Ra produced an envelope he had found in his post hole that morning.
"I got a letter from my cousin today." He began not entirely sure where he was going to take the conversation. "Umm...would you like to hear what is going on in small town Iran?"

Chii
Chii's ears perked up at, not only the mention of family stuffs (score! a chance to learn more about Ra!), but the woman letting them know their orders were ready as she brought them over.

"Thank you." she replied, then focused her attention on Ra. "I'd love to hear about a small town in Iran."

Ra
Ra opened the envelope and removed the letter. Written on pale pink paper, so typical of Parisa. Opening it he discovered it was wrapped around a photograph. Rolling his eyes he grinned back at Chiitra.
"Well you'll be able to visualise them too." He laughed putting the picture down on the table for her to see. "The girl in the front." He began pointing to a young teenager grinning out from a flowered headscarf. "That is Parisa. My cousin...well...more of a little sister really. She's fourteen."

Opening the letter he glanced at the Persian scrawl that looked like she had written it on the bus.
"It says dear ..." He paused a deep blush rising up to his face. "Angel number 2. My grandmother calls us her Angels." He explained quickly. "Because..." He paused. What had been about to say? we survived? checking himself he looked down at the black cup of coffee. "Because we are lucky."

Chii
Chii leaned forward, careful not to get crumbs on his picture. "mmm....She's pretty, and what a lovely name." she smiled. "Do youhave any brothers or sisiters?" Chii had always wondered what it was like to have brothers and sisters. Being an only child sure had it's perks, but then, there were so many times she could remember being alone. She took another big bite out of her doughnut.

"Angels, eh? That's cute. My mother calls me her little bean. Again he paused, this time a it was more noticable. She wondered what he was thinking about, but left it alone as her hand rested gently on her scar. "I can understand being lucky."

Ra
"I'm an only child." He replied. Smiling. "My mum's too busy to take care of more than one child. It pisses my grandmother off. That's my grandmother." He said pointing to an elderly woman in a black headscarf, a veil covering the lower part of her face. "She gets annoyed because my Uncle won't re-marry which leaves me as the only son of her son's. She is scared she won't have anyone to take over the family business." He laughed not realising he was giving a lot of personal information away.

"How about you? Do you have any brothers or sisters?" He asked taking the hot cup of coffee in his hands.

Chii
Chii looked at the older woman, intensly focused on the black veil. Chii remembered having to wear something like that once when she was younger, but she'd treated it just like dress-up. Looking at the woman in the photo made her feel ashamed of her behaviour.

"Same here. For similar reasons too. Mama and Papa have never had time for more than one child, and even then there were times when they didn't have time for me. But at least you have Parisa. She had to admit that she was a little envious of Parisa, who was probably so close to Ra. She envisioned them sharing secrets, and laughing over a good meal, or a late night snack...She grinned.

"So, what's the family business?

Ra
"Yeah." He mused. "Parisa used to come and stay with us sometimes." Again he paused, his eyes skimming down the letter. "Her mum and sisters died, when she was young." He said weakly. There, that was easy not giving too much away. "Her dad never got over it. When he's not feeling so good, she would come and stay with us."
Taking a sip of coffee, he looked into Chii's green eyes. Why was he telling her all this? "It says here, he is much better these days. The family business is tea...kind of. My Grandfather blends spices and leaves together to make different teas. Mainly for traditional medicine. What do your parents do again?" He asked trying to stop himself from talking.

Chii
Chii sat across the table completely absorbed in his story. It was so wonderful to hear about his familly, to chat like this. So peaceful.

Her heart ached at the mention of death. "How terrible, and yet in this picture she appears so happy and full of life. That's amazing. After something so traumatic it can be very difficult to move forward, especially down a non-destructive path. What a wonderful spirit she must have." She sipped her tea quietly. "I know for me, it was very difficult.....I mean, it would be very difficult." CRAP!! She winced inwardly, but maintained calm exterior. Would he notice? He wasn't stupid. Would he question it? She simply smiled and continued.

"I love tea....well, my parents are archaeologists." she beamed, "They do field work and lectures, and travel all over. Where ever they are needed. I miss them."

Ra
Ra paused mid sip of his coffee. He had heard her right. Swallowing, he continued to drink his coffee. So they were both entering dangerous territory. Part of him wondered what had been so traumatic for her. He dissmissed the thought. Whatever it was, it was none of his business. He knew what it felt like to talk to people about his own past, if she wanted to tell him she would. In her own time.
"Archaeologists. That must be incredible. You must have been to so many countries."

Chii
Chii took a sip of her tea, still a little on edge, her thoughts idly drifting to her scar. "They are incredible." she spoke quietly as she took another sip. "I've been to a few countries, but there are still so many I'd like to see.

The sun was shining more brilliantly now.

Ra
Ra noticed that the conversation had yet again taken a downturn. Sighing, he knew it was all his fault. He should have realised that bringing up family would eventually lead to depressing talk.

Taking one last look at the letter on the table he smiled and gave a small laugh.
"Parisa says my Grandmother is panicing about my being at Aquilla." He paused taking another welcome mouthfull of caffine.
"She thinks I'm going to be lead astray by all the young ladies." He smirked glancing out the window.

Chii
Chii mentally bereted herself for having let the atmosphere get to heavy. [I should be past all this] she thought to herself.

Chii couldn't help but grin at Ra's words, as well as be reminded of her father's. "Is that so?" she smirked coyly, and batting her eyelashes playfully. She laughed. "My father used to say, jokingly of course, that women were like spiders, luring men in, then
rendering them incapable of anything."
She stood up to stretch, then gathered up their trash and threw it away. REturning she spoke again, "Of course, my mother would always come back with something similar about men. Oddly enough she wasn't the one telling me to stay away from guys when I left though." She laughed softly to herself remembering the image of her father as he sat her down and explained how 'evil' boys were, etc. etc.
Gathering up her tea she looked at Ra taking in his features since she was closer. He really was quite attractive. "So, shall we go?"

Ra
Ra laughed at her father's description of women. "Your father sounds like an intelligent man." He joked collecting all of his own trash together.
"My mother would dissagree however." He grinned watching her smile as she talked more about her own parents. Something somewhere told him it was a pretty smile. "She thinks men need nooo encouragement."

Standing, he too threw his trash away and walked
back to the table.

"Sounds like a plan." He replied to her suggestion that they leave. It was too nice a day to spend sat inside.

Chii
After bidding the shop owners farewell Chii made her way out of the bakery; holding the door for Ra. As soon as she was outside she took a huge breath, raising her arms up as she did it, then flopped them down by her sides, and smiled.

"I love how morning smells." she chirped as she skipped over to Ra. "So what should we do now?"

Ra
That was a good question...what should they do. Ra knew he didn't want their morning jaunt to end yet. He enjoyed spending time with Chii. One thing he did know was that he was overdue his morning dose of nicotine.
Absently he reached into his pocket. As his hand connected with the plastic covered box a thought came to him.

What if Chii didn't like smoking. I was a gross habit, one that he
wished he didn't have. Another thought told him that he didn't usually bother who he smoked in front of. It wasn't like he was out to impress anyone. Was he?

Taking a deep breath he turned to face the grinning Chii.
"I know it's disgusting and bad, and that it will eventually cause a painful slow death. But do you mind if I smoke." He said as one quick sentence. Holding his breath he waited with narrowed eyes for her to tell him to get lost.

Chii
"Hmm? oh, sure, go ahead. It doesn't bother me. Just don't exhale on me, k?" she joked. The truth of the matter was that deep down it really did bother her, but it wasn't her place to say anything. This was his own decision that he alone had to make, and besides it was kinda sexy; in it's own strange way.

"oooh, I know; before we do anything I need to stop by my room. Is that ok? There's something I need to pickup, and then quickly drop off." she sipped her tea while looking at him, waiting for a response.

Ra
"Sure." He replied. Putting off the idea of a cigarette for a while if they were going back on campus. It wouldn't be a good idea to get caught breaking the rules in his first week. "Lead the way."

Chii
Chii happily skipped along, a few paces ahead of Ra. It was strange, here she was ALONE with a guy and while she'd expected to be terrified, reminded ever second of what had happened; she'd felt none of this. Maybe he was different? Her therapist had said that not all guys were the way her coach was. Still, it was hard for her to believe. People wore masks everyday, what made Ra any different...
Rin says:
It was settled then, she nodded to herseld. She'd just have to keep an eye on Ra...Jun too. She'd let him get too close as well. Distance. Distance Chii, she told herself repeatedly. She'd trusted her coach too easily, and it wouldn't happen again.

Ra
Ra followed behind Chiitra as they entered the school campus once more. Although still early for most students a few people were out and meandering along the stone paths.
"So...Chii?" Ra asked as they approached the dorms. "What else do you like to do besides playing soccer and eating pastries?"

Chii
Chii's heart lept. "Oh, well..." she muttered as she entered the dorm, holding the door open for Ra. "lots of things...heh...like taking photos, and drawing." She slowly approached her dorm room. "...but what I really love the most...." her sentence trailed off. Was she really going to bring him into her room? Her heart pounded. Was it safe? Was he safe? She placed the key into the lock then gazed
up at him. Her eyes searching, pleading for an answer. For a truth she so desperately wanted to know.

Ra
Ra looked down at Chii, waiting for her to finish her sentence. When he noticed her hesitation. Glancing from the door back to Chii, his brain suddenly clicked into gear.
How could he have been so rude. He was so intent to continue their discussions that he didn't notice they had reached her room. Had his parents taught him no manners?
"Oh, uh. I'll wait out here for you." He said leaning against the wall.

Chii
Chii sighed; no answer today...another day perhaps. She turned the key gently until it clicked and swung the door open. "I'll just be a moment. Here, I'll leave the door open..." It was a strange gesture on her part, one she wasn't entirely sure of but either way she slipped inside the room, tossing her coat on the couch as she passed it. If Ra had decided to look in he'd see the living area,
as well as her...desk. Although one would hardly call it that, workbench was a better word, and it was truly an eyesore compared to the rest of her furnishings. Cluttered with drawings, tools and half finished projects it was quite obvious that Chii spent a lot of time there. She was rummaging through the drawers, trying to find something and obviously getting quite frustrated that she wasn't
finding it. Of course, if she'd actually remembered where she'd left it....on the coffee table....this wouldn't be taking so long.

Ra
Ra stepped forwards from the wall. It wasn't like he was trying to see into the room, well, maybe he was. He was curious to compare to the one he had been assigned...and she had left the door open. Catching a glimpse of the plush white sofa he was drawn to the doorway.
Glancing around the room he let out a sigh. It was a shared area. This must be one of the twin dorms he had read about in the
prospectus for the school.
It was amazing. Probably the size of his single room. Standing in the doorway he wondered if it would be rude of him to step inside. It wasn't like it was her actual room. Though this was a girls dorm...wasn't it. Holding his breath he stepped into the homely room. He stood still for a few seconds before exhaling.
There that wasn't too bad. No all consuming fires of hell. Stepping towards the sofa he noticed something on the coffee table resting on top a pile of magazines. It was a picture and a very good one. Glancing nervously around him he stepped forwards to take a closer look.

Chii
Chii looked up momentarily and saw Ra inching into the room. She smirked and went back to flinging papers all over the place. She let out a rather loud cry of frustration. "I can't believe it's gone. Just like that. I spent ages on it." Placing her hands on her hips, she surveyed the room. "Maybe Kazaf took it..." she muttered as she walked over to the couch and flopped over the couch, her head where her feet were supposed to be. "You might as well take a seat. Who knows how long it's going to take me to find that drawing." Deep in thought Chii was blissfully unaware that the drawing she was looking for was only inches from her face.

Ra
"Kazaf?" Ra asked sitting on the comfortable sofa. "Your roommate?" He continued thinking that was an unusual name for a girl. Removing his eyes from the intricate picture on the table he glanced around the area. "This place is huge." He remarked noticing for the first time the ammount of stuff lying around the place. Several items were not ones he would have typically associated with girls but his mother had always taught him not to stereotype so he didn't question it.
"What kind of picture are you looking for?" He asked relaxing against the comfortable cushions.

Chii
Chii nodded. "Yeah, he slinks about the place like a ghost...and lately several of my drawings have gone missing. He's the only one I can think of that has access and might take them." She played with her hair, desperately trying to rack her brain as to the drawing's location. "It is big...even with two people living here it's still big. Which has it's perks and drawbacks." Hoisting herself over up over the back of the couch, Chii began pacing around the room. "Well, it's a drawing for starters. A technical drawing, of a clock that a classmate of mine had me design." She walked into her bedroom, leaving the doors open, shouting back out to Ra. "You asked me what I enjoy doing, and that's it. I tinker with things; design them, build them, and then ultimately repair them. It's my greatest love." She continued to rummage around in her room.

Ra
Ra looked down at the picture on the magazines and shook his head. It was of a clock and looked technical. Picking it up he looked at it in admiration. Wishing he was good at drawing and making things.
"Hey Chii is thi..." He stopped mid sentence realising what she had said about her roommate. Standing he took a step towards the open door. "Chii did you just say your roommate was a HE?" He called in confusion.

Chii
Realizing the search in her bedroom was fruitless, Chii huffed and walked towards the doors. "huh? oh, yeah. Kazaf's a he, although I hardly see him. I'd almost say I live alone, which is a shame." She walked past Ra, without closing her bedroom doors, and over to the workbench, once more going through its drawers....when something hit her. "You sound surprised?" she grinned and headed over to Ra.
"heh. You don't think boys and girls should live in the same room?" Although, thinking about it now, given her history, it was a wonder they'd put her with a guy....luckily she never saw him. Chii grinned at Ra, it was a good thing he wasn't her roommate.

Ra
Ra grinned back, sneaking a glance at the open door. He was quite relieved to see that Chii was almost as neat as he was. If neat consisted of having half the contents of the room on the floor.
"My parents would have me out of here quicker than you can say salam. In my country men are not allowed to mix with unrelated women." He paused. "Well not in private anyway."
Raising an eyebrow he looked
But why is the rum gone? says:
down at the piece of paper in his hands.
"Is this what you were looking for?" He laughed holding it up to the light and out of her reach.

Chii
"Private huh?" she smiled, she'd consider this here private, but she knew what he meant. "Given the situation I really shouldn't be living with a guy, but I can't very well go through life having people making special arrangements just for me." The blood drained from her face in an instant. She'd said too much; been too careless with her words. Quick a change of topic. Her eyes darted to the drawing, hoping it really was what she was after, not that it really mattered right now, all she needed was something to take the attention off of her words. He eyes glimpsed the familir lines of the clock face just as they were raised above Ra's head. "Ah! Yes, that's the drawing!" she tried to grab it, each time unsuccessful due to the length of his arms compared to hers.
She'd have to jump for this one, and so, readying herself, she inched back to get a few steps in before she jumped. She smirked, no way was he gonna get the better of her! And so, as she took the first few steps and shirt that had been lying around got caught on her shoes and caused her to, instead of jump neatly, trip very ungracefully and fall into Ra.

Ra
Before Ra could question what she had meant by 'people having to make special arrangements' Chii had launched herself at the picture. Not expecting the movement Ra wasn't ready for her trip.
Her impact with him caused him to step backwards, slipping on a rogue soccer ball and falling to the floor.
Not wanting to damage the picture he held it up as his head hit the wooden floor with a dull thud.

Ra
One minute she was rising and the next minute she was falling. She'd shut her eyes, tight and so the all she heard was Ra's head hitting the floor. As she opened her eyes she saw that she was lying on top of him, her hands on either side of his chest. It took her a minute to fully grasp the situation, but when she finally did she scrambled off of him and rushed to see if his head was alright.
She was muttering apologies the entire time. Kneeling, she took his head into her hands to examine it. "Are you alright. I'm so sorry. Such an idiotic thing for me to do. Does it hurt? Do you need me to get someone?" Guilt hung about her shoulders as she prodded his head trying to find out what he needed.

Ra
Ra kept his eyes closed for a moment as the pain really sunk in. He was vaguely aware of Chii's weight on him, before he could be worried or embarrased she was gone.
Opening one eye and then the other he became aware of her hands on his head. Asking if he was all right like the day they had been playing soccer.
"No." He said as the initial pain of impact began to fade away. "It was my fault. I'm
But why is the rum gone? says:
sorry." Taking a deep breath her eased himself up off the floor. "I've been in worse scrapes." He grinned sitting cross legged and rubbing the back of his head. "Here." He smiled offering the drawing as a sign that he wasn't hurt too bad, or angry.

Chiitra
Chii was relieved. This was the second time she'd done something stupid and almost seriously hurt Ra. Perhaps it was best if she stayed away from him. "I'm sorry you keept getting hurt on my account." she sighed, and fidgeted with her pants. As he offered something to her, she looked up to see the drawing. A smile slide across her face. "Ah, the acursed drawing finally shows its face."
she joked as she took it from him. "This took me weeks to come up with. Which is why I was a little freaked out earlier, trying to find it." She looked up at him. "You're sure you'll be alright?" Looking at Ra it was hard to fathom that he could be capable of similar actions as Sharrif Gowda, her coach. We're they really all beasts on the inside? Was there nothing more?

Rashne
"You worry too much. I'm fine." He said looking at the drawing again. "That's really good. I mean I'm no expert but it looks interesting."
He paused trying to work out whether he should bring up what had been bugging him about what she had said before their collision.
She had seemed agitated about it, he knew as well as any what it was
like to keep things twisted up inside.
"Chii?" He began nervously. "What did you mean by special arrangements?" As soon as the words had left his mouth he regreted them.

Chiitra
The knot in her stomach tightened as images flashed in her mind. Brutal hands, rabid eyes..primal lust. Blood. She lurched forward, hands reaching for the floor, shaky arms supporting an even shakier body. Her hair hung in front of her face, and she could feel beads of sweat form on her brow and down her back. She should have expected it, Ra wasn't an idiot he'd surely have caught on, but she really hadn't expected him to ask. The picture had fluttered away, and her breathing had deepened. "I.....I don't handle being alone with a guy very well..." she began.

Rashne
Ra watched Chiitra's reaction with concern, a knot tightening in his stomach. She was shaking, rather violently. If it had been another friend or his cousin even he would have placed a comforting arm on her shoulder. Her last comment stopped him. He was back to square one, awkward and nervous with not a clue how to react or what to say.
How could you have been so stupid He asked himself wanting the ground to open up and swallow him. Biting his lip he sat in silence feeling useless as always.

Chiitra
Chii tried to gather herself but every time she tried she saw his hands reaching, reaching for her shirt, her hair, her arms...anything...and then she suddenly remembered the feeling of relief she'd felt after telling Pyper. Maybe it would be the same with Ra? But he was a guy...he couldn't possibly understand, could he? Slowly she raised her head, she wanted to see his face, his eyes. Then she would know what to do, how to proceed. He was biting his lip, not really making eye contact and obviously disturbed by her admission. [How stupid, I should have made something up, or ignored the question...] she thought to herself, but deep down some part of her wanted to tell him, wanted to see how a guy would take such knowledge... She stared at him, eyes searching, hoping, waiting for his to meet hers.

Rashne
Ra stared at the floorboards for a few moments. Why had he asked her in the first place? Because he had wanted to help, because he knew what it was like to keep something hidden inside for so long. Finally it began to take over, making life more and more difficult. Slowly he looked up, his eyes meeting hers.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you...I just..." He paused breathing deeply. "I just know that sometimes it is good to talk about things." Waiting in silence he hoped that had sounded how he wanted it to.

Chiitra
There. Looking into his dark brown eyes the world seemed to melt away to where it was just the two of them. She could faintly hear his voice, but she didn't have to listen, his eyes had already asked her...to continue...to trust him. She stopped shaking, but not once did her eyes leave his. She wanted to see everything. "When I was 12 I joined a soccer team run by a man named Sharrif Gowda, a 20-something olympic hopeful..." she swallowed hard. "..and when I was 15 he raped me." Her hands formed into fists, as tears began falling.

Rashne
Ra held her eyes searching for something to say, something that would help. It wasn't that this was the first time he had heard such things, he wasn't that sheltered. His mother was a women's rights lecturer, but hearing about it on the news and as topical conversation was a world away from hearing that something so terrible had happened to a friend.
Suddenly his problems seemed minor. Throughout his silence he continued to hold her green eyes with his brown ones.
"I'm sorry." He said finally, that was it. What else could he say, he wanted to comfort her in some way. He hated seeing people in so much pain but he felt lost. "It's terrible." He said softly after another brief silence. "When I hear about this I feel so angry."
In his frustration he could feel his grasp of English slipping away from him. "I'm sorry." He repeated watching her tears helplessly.

Chii leaned back on her heels, her tears having turned from sadness to relief. He hadn't rejected her. Instead he'd held her eyes the entire time, as if watching over them. There was no way Ra was anything like Sharrif.

Chiitra
She dared a smile. "You don't need to be sorry Ra; you didn't do anything, and unfortunately you can't fix what did happen." she didn't mean it to sound harsh, she was just being honest. There was no need to feel sorry for her; she needed strength, not pity. "But you are right about one thing, it is terrible. Devastating even. Your whole world is ripped apart. Every guy I met I was secretly terrified of. I would think, 'when is he going to do it. unleash his beast.'. But I have to move on, and if possible grow from this, I'm only sorry I was unable to tell you earlier. It was unfair of me to present one mask but secretly wear another." She brushed the hair from her face.

Rashne
Now Ra looked away, and shook his head. "You had no obligation to tell me." He said sighing. "I want you to know you can tell me anything...if you need to, ever." He looked back up at her, she looked so hurt, he wanted to comfort her in some way, let her know that she had his support. His heart thudding in his chest he forced himself to express what he had been feeling since she had confided in him. "This is going to sound really stupid and possibly patronising. But I don't mean it like that." He blurted in his fast manner. "Do you need a hug? I know sometimes it helps." He mumbled the last couple of words. Highly embarrassed that she would find him condescending or be afraid of him.

Chiitra
Chii's tears has disappeared replaced with an incredibly warm feeling. "oh..th...thank you. *heh*" She glanced off to the side, smiling. "...you can tell me anything too. I'm a good listener."

Her face suddenly flushed with colour. "It...doesn't sound stupid at all. I could really use one." As she said it she caught herself gazing at his arms, his chest...her heart thumped loudly in her chest. It's just a hug Chii. Just a hug, nothing more. geeeez. The mood had turned somewhat awkward as she was unsure whether to lean towards him, or if he'd come to her, or....so she just sat, waiting for him to move first, her stomach full of butterflies. *insert firework explosions* xD

Rashne
Ra blinked he hadn't really thought about her accepting his offer. He suddenly felt even more awkward and uncomfortable, his heart beating faster than before. What should he do? Smiling awkwardly he moved towards her, hoping that she would meet him half way. For the first time in his life he was so nervous and awkward he didn't even think about his own insecurities and physical contact issues.

Chiitra
Seeing him move towards her sent Chii's nerves into a frenzy. Her heart was beating faster, her palms were even a bit sweaty. But none of that mattered, she really wanted, no, needed that hug. She inched closer, and slid her arms under his and up towards his shoulder blades. Turned towards him, her head naturally nuzzled into the spot right beneath his collarbone, over his heart, as her arms pulled him closer. He was warm, so warm, and she could hear his heart beating. It was a little fast, to which she smiled, but it was steady. She was filled with an overwhelming sense of release. Hugs always did that to her, she could loose herself in a hug if she wasn't careful. Her hands grabbed his shirt in an effort to pull him even closer. He was so warm. One of her hands released the shirt clenched tightly there, and as it travelled it ran across skin that was raised where it shouldn't be. Curious but not enough to release his warmth she let her hand rest around his waist.

Rashne
Ra held his breath for a few seconds, he could feel his heart beating in his throat as she pulled him close to her. Her head resting just below his chin, the scent of shampoo and jasmine assulting his senses as he placed one arm around her thin waist the other on the back of her neck. He had never been this close to a girl before, well not one that wasn't family. It was comforting, the gentle rhythm of her breathing the feel of her arms around him.
Then he began to panic slightly, as her hand rested on his back, he realised that she would know. Tensing slightly yet not ready to let her go. He didn't know how or why but part of him didn't care. Slowly he began to relax again.
"We all wear masks." He said softly, absently thinking baout what she had said earlier.

Chiitra
Chii was in heaven. Being hugged by Ra was like being wrapped in a down comforter. She let out a soft coo as she felt his tense, and heard the steady beating of his heart a little louder. She almost didn't hear Ra speak, in fact, all she heard was the word 'masks
Wondering if he was referring to her, or to himself she casually asked, "Do you wear a mask Ra?" It was a little more prying than her normal questions, but then again she wasn't exactly thinking straight wrapped in the arms of a warm, muscle-y guy who smelled really good. She'd completely forgotten about the raised portion of skin she'd felt on his back.

Rashne
Ra stared at the white wall trying to calm his breathing. What was he so afraid of? That she would treat him like the bullies from his school in England. When most people found out they were disgusted, didn't know how to act around him. Or was that all in his head too. She hadn't recolied from his arms yet.
Taking a deep breath he wondered how to start. "Yes, well. I'm not exactly what I seem anyway." He wasn't sure how to continue but this seemed to be a day for revealing secrets. "Do you want to hear, it's not very interesting." He sighed, trying to play down the importance. Maybe she wouldn't want to know.

Chiitra
Chii lifted her head off his chest for a moment and looked up at him. She'd asked the question half in jest, not expecting him to response with a yes, but he had and so she would be there for him as he had been for her. She nodded, "I do, if you're up for telling me." Even if he didn't think it was important she certainly did. As he'd said to her, it was good to talk about these things.

She didn't want to pull away from him, so she left that decision up to him. For the time being she remained there, arms wrapped around his waist gazing up at him.

Rashne
Ra loosened his arms a bit so he could see her properly. Reactions were all important, how was he going to begin.
"You remember earlier you asked me why I wore so many layers when it was so hot?" It was a question but he did not leave enough of a gap to allow her to answer. "And that my Aunt had died. When I was two, there was an earthquake in my town. I don't really remember much. Only that my Aunt was cooking and then I was in a makeshift hospital. The coals or the boiling water must have landed on me or something, I was burnt all over by chest and a bit on my arms.." He paused. The bridge of his nose had begun to tingle and he felt the familiar tears welling at the corners of his eyes.
Forcing himself not to let them free he continued. "They told me, when i was older that I had been trapped for hours, I had deep cuts on my back and legs, I was lucky to survive. Very lucky. My Aunt and cousins didn't make it out alive." Again he stopped watching her for a reaction. "I'm a mess." He added, looking beyond her and at the wall again.

Chiitra
Chii also loosened her arms, but unknowling maintained a grasp on his shirt with her right hand. Her full attention was focused on Ra. She held his eyes the way he'd held hers.

She didn't know what to say, if he even wanted her to say anything. He probably was more concerned with her reactions just as she had been with his. Chii's eyes had begun to well with tears, especially when she'd seen Ra forcing back his tears. She wanted to tell him it was ok to cry, but that wasn't fair, and so, overwhelmed with emotion, she cried; for Ra, for his family that died, for the whole emotion strained day. Her hand gripped his shirt tighter, until she just gave in, leaning forward to wrap her arms around his neck. Not to hug persay, but just to hold him. She spoke softly, "You're not a mess, you're lovely." she instinctly kissed his cheek, "...I know it isn't much, but you really are a truly lovely person." She would have done anything to take away even a portion of his pain, which in her mind was far greater than hers ever could have been. How selfish she'd been to think her experience was so terrible; she hadn't lost anyone dear to her, unlike Ra.

Rashne
Ra stared dumbstruck at the wall as Chii began to cry. The last thing he had wanted to do was to upset her even more. Then she kissed him on the cheek, he felt his face growing red, his stomach twisted into an even tighter knot and he lost his ability to think properly. Why was she being so nice to him. He realised he had never really spoken to anyone about it properly, not his parents, nor the psychaiatrist they had made him see.
Wanting to feel the comfort of their earlier hug he tightened his arms around her again, feeling the tears slide down his cheek. "No, you don't understand. I am really a mess. Physically, mentally." He could hear his voice breaking with the tears so he stopped. "I'm sorry." He managed before his grief got the better of him and he began to cry.
Chiitra
Hearing his tears Chii hugged him tighter, her hands digging into his shirt. She let out a faint laugh. "I'd say we're both a mess.." As she held him, she ran her hand over his back in an attempt to soothe, but as she did so her hand brushed over the raised portion of skin, which she now knew to be a scar. But she didn't react any differently. A scar was a scar to her, it didn't change the person on the inside. She had one too, not that it compared to Ra's by any stretch of the imagination, but it was scar nonetheless. However, she couldn't help but wonder how extensive, and how badly he'd been scarred. Either way she knew he'd probably been ridiculed growing up, which only made her hold onto him tighter.

Rashne
Ra laughed a little, not because anything was funny but because barely a two weeks into his arrival at Aquilla and already he had found someone who understood him enough to feel comfortable with. Funnier of all his confidant was a girl. He wondered what his grandmother would say if she could see him now.
"Sorry." He sniffed. Realising he was probably holding her too tight he reluctantly released his grip. "I get nightmares sometimes. It has been a little worse than usual. I didn't mention it earlier. I got bullied a lot in my last school for it. That's where I started covering up so much. I felt like people would be disgusted if they saw. Like I was from that musical...the one with the guy that wears the mask." He stopped realising he was rambling again in an attempt to lighten the mood. Looking into her eyes once more he smiled. "You don't need to cry for me Chii, I get enough of that done on my own." He said reaching up tentatively to brush a strand of hair from her eyes.

Chiitra
Chii released her grip and relaxed into a kneeling position. "People can be so cruel." Seeing his hand come up to her face, her heart raced. Such a gently gesture, and from a guy... "Do you relive what happend in your nightmares? oh, don't worry about me I'm used to crying. I don't do it so much anymore, but for several months after I was raped I would cry for hours, days even. I didn't go out into public because I was so afraid I'd run into 'him'." Chii paused, a note of hesitation in her voice. "Ra...how bad are your scars?" She braced herself, instantly wishing she hadn't asked.

Rashne
Holding her eyes with his he gave a slight shake of his head.
"I don't know. In my dreams everything shakes, there is a lot of darkness, all I can see is my Aunt, but she isn't moving...I don't know if it is what I saw or something that my brain has made up." He cringed a little, he was about to make himself sound like a total girl. "I wake up crying most of the time...then...I can't get back to sleep, so I run."
Ra nodded in understanding as she told him about life after her ordeal. Why couldn't he be strong like that.

The last question caught him off guard. He frowned slightly unsure whether to answer, but why shouldn't he. It was about time he stopped acting like a child about these things, what was it the therapist had said? realise that they are and always will be a part of him.
"Pretty bad." He admitted. "The worst of it is on my chest though. Most of it is burn scarred, it's not pretty." He winced thinking of the white stretched skin he saw when he accidentaly caught sight of himself in the mirror. "I was lucky though, at least I can keep it covered." He said his lips curling into a grin as he relaxed once more.

Chiitra
"How terrible. Were you very close to your Aunt? I couldn't imagine losing anyone in my family. They're all I have." she stared off at the blank wall. "You run?...oh! So, is that why you were out running so early? I don't like to run, so I eat instead." she laughed. "Which is why I was up at the crack of dawn today."

Seeing him frown at her question she raised a hand to her mouth. She was about to apologize when he answered. She'd only ever seen scars from burns in books. Never in real life, so while her natural curiosity urged her to ask, she refrained, and inwardly scolded herself. "You're a lovely person Ra, and quite pretty in my opinion..." She placed a hand on his chest, "and one day you'll see it. But until then I'll just have to keep reminding you." and with that a big cheesy grin spead across her face.

Rashne
Ra raised an eyebrow, not quite sure how to take her last comment. Instead he laughed and shook his head.
"We make a good pair." He grinned. "And to answer your question. I didn't really know my Aunt, I was too young. If anything was to happen to the rest of my family though I don't know what I would do." He paused again not wanting the conversation to take another nose dive. "Well, you have me." He said shyly. "Any time you want company for an early breakfast...or even to come for a run, or talk...anything. I'm here."
He hoped he didn't sound too pushy. He wanted her to know that he hoped they could spend some more time together.

Chiitra
Chii nodded to Ra's statements about his family. All this talk about families was making her miss hers.

"That I do Ra.." she grinned, and slid her hand into his. "...and you have me."Thinking back on their little trip to the bakery Chii nodded. "I'd like that very much. Although, I don't run very much, but we should certainly play soccer again. I'll make sure not to use any sketchy moves like the last time." Chii took his other hand. "Ra, I want you to know that I'm here for you, anytime, day or night, it doesn't matter. So, if you have nightmares again you come see me and I'll take care of you. Don't ever feel that you're interrupting, or that you're a bother." She meant it seriously, and hoped he'd take it seriously.

Rashne
Ra grinned back, his heart jumping again as she took his hand. The insecure part of his mind began to wonder why a girl as pretty and sweet as Chii would want someone like him bothering her. He pushed the thought away and squeezed her hand lightly. He was no good at this kind of thing.
"It's only a deal if you do the same. Anytime." He smiled, a different part of him decided he quite liked the thought of taking care of Chii. "So," He began. "what now. We've eaten, laughed, cried and discussed our darkest secrets. What do you want to do now?" He stopped again how could he be so thoughtless. "Sorry, that's unless you have other things to do, studying or you want to be alone." He blurted out a panicked look on his face. He always said such stupid things.

Chiitra]"It's a deal." Chii couldn't help but giggle at the look on Ra's face. "Don't worry about it...as luck would have it I don't have anything to do today. I should drop that drawing off though, but after that I'm all yours." Before getting to her feet she leaned forward once more to give Ra a hug, and a small peck on the cheek. She couldn't help it he was so cute! Getting to her feet, she brushed off her pants, and held out a hand for Ra.
[quote="Rashne
Ra felt himself grow red again at yet another peck on the cheek. Just a friendly hug. He told himself. it was just a friendly hug. Smiling he took her hand, out of politeness but mostly used his own weight to get up from the floor. He too brushed off his track pants and straightened his t-shirt.
"Well then, let's go." He said cheerfully. "After you."
