We are told that ANBU are the elite of Jounins.I'm inclined to believe this, since Kakashi himself was a Jounin (a bit biased, but hey), but you hardly see them in action They were beaten by Kabuto, and Orochimaru. They did save Anko from the giant tigr things at the Chuunin Exam, but the tranquilized it (right? I don't recall them fighting it).

I do know that- but you don't really see their potential when they're fighting. I don't recall a time when they've ever won a bad guy like Orochimaru or Kabuto.

1) we are told that the ANBU are the best of the best and kick alot of @$$.
2) super evil dude comes by and kicks the ANBU's @$$
3) we as fans are suppose to go "WTF? if he beat the ANBU he must he super tough!"
4) the makers of naruto get a point across on how strong their villans are
see what I mean? they are basicly used to show the power of a bad guy...poor ANBUs

The ANBU is barely shown in the series or manga, that's true. What is said is that the ANBU is an organization that assasins ninjas. I think they deserve some spotlight.

The ANBU are the Elite Jounin, we know this.
But do you forget that Orochimaru is a Legenday Shenin? And Kabuto is his right hand man, and I doubt Orochimaru would keep someone week at his side. Of course the ANBU are strong, but when up aganist someone like Orochimaru, who was able to kill Sarutobi....they have a slim chance of winning at all xP
