((I will be keeping track of all RPage throughout the entire quest, here. Each sectioned-off roleplay session will be marked, both beginning and end, for clear definition.)) PART 1 :: BEGINNING :: FUTE X WHISPER "Steady. Steady fella.." Fute latched hold of the branch closest as he could reach, back paws trying to maintain balance on the edge of the landscape. He hadn't been watching too closely where he was going, and now he'd have to gain control again if he wasn't to fall clear off the edge. "Come on Fute, you can do it..." he reaffirmed himself, trying to think positively through it all. Pebbles began to break off and collapse. Then suddenly, as all hope of the cliff remaining in tact seemed to drop, he managed to pull back just enough to fall back on his rump. Oomph!
"Well, that's certainly something I'll never let myself do again." he uttered jokingly. He'd been on his own for many months, despite the abundance of wolves making this world their habitat. It had come to no surprise, though. Things had really begun to look down for the Gamma. His mate departed from him; his pack split up while he was away; his entire identity was no longer accessible to his mind. Bewilderment overcomed him, alongside confusion. Yet still, he obtained a smile on his face and kept his head held high. "Mmm, can't help but wonder what mother earth is up to recently. Or at the very least, possibly some of the other wolves as well."

Wandering aimlessly was said departed mate of the spotted wolf, Fute. She was out for another walk, as her body miraculously required more exercise now that she was getting healthier and improving her weight and such. Yet she was showingly proud of herself; she had made quite an improvement in just a few short months, months that had been plopped on by snow and now were being melted away by the ever-warming sun.
It was a nice day, really, and she planned to take full advantage of it. Head held moderately high, the green female trotted energetically down some worn-out trail, one that seemed frequently used yet somewhat abandoned at this point. It was perhaps an entrance for some pack of creatures or another at some point in time. Whatever the case, though, itw as now just a simple walkway for an aging wolf.
Humming slightly to herself, Whisp continued on, unknowingly growing ever closer to the one she had split up with seemingly so long ago. But she soon found out because his scent was heavy in the air.
Suddenly she stopped, fur bristling for a reason she couldn't quite comprehend. Why was his scent so alarming to her?
Uneasy now, the wolfess growled to herself, though it was probably loud enough for him to hear. Randomly she remembered their fight... perhaps that was why she was on edge and nervous...

The male rolled over onto his belly, then rose to all fours, shaking off the amount of dirt that had matted itself into his fur. This was no day to be going around looking dirty, now was it? Nosiree. The air was clear and the sun shone so brightly that even the muckiest of fur would look sparkling clean if anywhere beneath it. This, however, had one downside. It brought on thirst. Especially after the big meal of hare he'd consumed just earlier. He licked his chops in a need for his thirst to be satiated. But could it be? He'd have to travel back to the water, or hope for some rain, either one. "Meh" The gamma shrugged it off, making a quick decision that he'd just have to wait. And he could; he'd done it many times before. Just perhaps for not quite as long.
Taking a few steps forward, he abruptly came to a halt, an awkward sound coming from afar. "What's this... a growl?" He cocked his head to the side, pondering who was the owner of said voice. Then her scent began to loom through the air like perfume amidst a junkyard territory. "Whisper..." His emotions were immediately shifted into gear, an overwhelming feeling of both sadness and anger consuming him. He recalled their last meeting well, and it had not been a pleasant one. A frown struck his maw for a moment, though just as quickly did it fade. For now he held his ground, but sounded a howl in calling for her to come closer.

It was many moments waiting until the howl of her former-mate reached her ears. He had scented her and was now calling her to come forth. But could she? Their last meeting had not been a great one, and she was fearful that this one would only have a worse outcome. For a few seconds, she hesitated.
Should she go? Should she stay?
A step forward, a step back to where she had been the moment before. Her mind could just not settle on a decision. Fute she had loved dearly, but since the last time they had seen each other, she had busied herself and she had grown farther and farther away from him. Could things possibly heal up?
Thinking that there was a chance, however slight, Whisp lifted her ears and trodded slowly forward. Within a few minutes she was sticking her green head through the bushes, black ears swivelling towards him as her golden eyes attempted to look at him without actually look at him. It was quite difficult.
Yet there stood Fute, full and in person. Same as ever, it seemed.

A short while of waiting gave way to the appearance of his previous mate called Whisper. Things had been good oh so long ago, but now he was even unsure if they could so much as call each other 'acquaintances'. A few melancholy swishes of his tail revealed his displeasure in the situation. "Come on out." he said somewhat sternly, yet calmly. Confrontation was the least of his intents at this moment, though within himself he could feel an uproar burning inside, foreshadowing a horrific outcome to this moment's gathering.
He edged but a step closer to her before sitting, head turned to the side, gazing about at the horizon, avoiding eye contact. He was through with making "first moves". If she did not reply, he would turn and walk away, denying completely his inclings of feelings for her, despite them becoming increasingly noticeable.

Whisper was suddenly infuriated. What, he'd just think that he could order her around and she'd follow blindly? Him telling her, and quite sternly, to come out then randomly looking away and avoiding eye contact... what was up with that?!
Suddenly she growled, ears falling back angrily. She stepped out of the bushes, like he had wanted her to, but she refused to do much else. He didn't control her. No on did! She was a free spirit, one who was there when you needed her but wasn't always at your radnom calling. That would be just ridiculous. And she had to speak out about this.
"So that's it?" she grumbled, sitting down just as he did and looking at him sternly, despite Fute having attempted to avoid eye contact with her.

Damned females. They always knew just how to take things the wrong way, nomatter WHAT you tried to convey to them. He didn't want a fight, and he didn't want to infuriate her. However, it looked as though he'd begun the process of both. It was even unbeknownst to him as to why he was behaving in such a manner. He just couldn't grasp hold of any sort of control of himself at this moment. "So what's it?" he asked, almost allowing his head to turn and eyes peer over to her just ever slightly. He still didn't want to look at her. Not out of spite, or anger, but rather, out of reasoning that was far beyond his ability to comprehend.
Where was this going to? Not even two seconds into their contact, and already the tension was far greater than that of their last encounter. What was the point of this nonsense? Fute believed that there was a point to everything under the sun, and that everyone had their place, and their own set boundaries. Perhaps he'd crossed his already... Nomatter, this was not the type of skit he'd had in mind. Then again, he hadn't expected bumping into her at all. Strange how luck turned its back on you sometimes, but he wouldn't let it get him down. He strained and smiled at her, batting his tail to and fro a little bit, trying to appear more tranquil about things. Maybe she'd calm down if she could only realize he wasn't here to argue, though he was upset.

Damn males. They were just always so blinded by their arrogance and pride to ever see anything that was right in front of them. This was NOT the Fute she had grown to know and love, the one she had raised from a mere pup. This was someone different, someone COMPLETELY different. This was someone she did not like. Too different, her mind shouted.
"So this is it," she grumbled, loosening up a bit when he did, but not by much. Like him, this was not the sort of encounter she had really been hoping for, but then, it couldn't have been avoided. The past often determined the future, some say.
"We just stand here like bitter enemies, not even muttering a greeting?" Now there was sorrow in her voice, and a bit of a faulter when she said them. She missed him, though the she-wolf attempted not to show it. She found herself to be quite stubborn at the moment, and being stubborn meant that she just didn't want to give in, not to him and not to anything.
Whisper looked down, her eyes filled with sadness that came from looking at Fute for too long. She looked down both in hopes that he didn't see and also to try and rid herself of the feeling.
Why must things be so complicated?

A rather neutral look grew onto his face as the femme wolf spoke, her voice not inviting by the slightest of calculations. Pathetic., he thought to himself. Simply pathetic that this is what it's come down to. And then her mutters sounded again, only this time with the emotion of sorrow attached. Hmph. This was no time to go from angry to sadness, and especially not under these circumstances. It would all come down to being too much for him. For her. For the both of them. Even so, despite the consequences being drastic, it felt as if there was no stopping this. Almost as if things had to happen this way.
"Well I don't know." he began. "That's what I was leaving up to you. ... Though I suppose it's clear that won't be happening, now isn't it?" Of course his questioning was rhetorical, but it would send mixed signals to many. Mayhaps he'd strike fortune, though, and she'd take it with a grain of salt. His mind was not at ease, and therefore he was not at ease. As a result, he malfunctioned and had begun to slip up with his words. Like how anger would take over a mother lion protecting her cubs, this feeling drenched him of his control and took over itself, altering his personality and transforming him into an entirely different persona. There was no escape; not even if the persona was one he despised whole-heartedly.
Still, deep down inside remained the spark that had always been lit. It never completely went out. Like the spark of the puppy and only other life form he'd run into earlier back a few days, his spark had merely dimmed itself to flickering. Meaning there was still hope... "But uh, hey I guess, Whisp..." And so he muttered softly, the newfound wolf within almost hoping she hadn't caught the way he'd said it.

Yet Whisper hadn't heard the last portion of his speech, for she had been too infuriated by his earlier words. So he had decided to leave everything up to her, huh? Well, what a horrible decision he made! Females were fragile, her even moreso because of her emotional, mental, and physical state. Couldn't he see that?
Growling full-on again, she rose to her paws and backed up. This male she did not know, and it angered her to remember that she had even liked him at one point. He was lost, basically, and she would probably never find the heart to take him in again... not even the kind, caring, and absolute loving Whisp, not even she would accept him anymore.
"I don't know you," she declared, glaring at him now. This was not the Fute she had raised. Something had corrupted him, but exactly what she was unsure of.
"Let me know when the real Fute comes back," she mumbled, turning away and meaning to leave.

"I don't know you!?" Just who did she think she was! It was HER that HE did not know, if anybody was to be unaware of who someone was around here... Yeah, she'd changed. And not for the better. "I don't know you either." Suddenly he almost snarled, then quickly corrected himself and stopped, drawing back a bit. What had he just done? He'd never snarled at ANYONE before, to his memory's knowledge, and especially not Whisper!
Like it or not though, what was done, was done. "Good-bye." He strained to finish his words, almost as if he didn't want the meeting to end, even with the tremendously terrible outcome it had brought on. Shallow and cold; that's all his heart had come to be. Something was taking over him; something he'd have to get ahold of, and soon. Turning stiffly, his tail stopped swaying and he began to walk away.

Whisper hadn't changed really, it was just this meeting had caught her... all tied up and confused inside. With him being how he was, she just wasn't quite certain about how to react around him anymore.
Yet when the male snarled, everything just stopped. She blinked, turning to face him again. He just SNARLED at her. That really hit her hard, and she whined rather loudly. The she-wolf then tucked in her tail and lowered her head considerably. This was definitely not what she had expected to happen the next time they had run into each other. Yet it seemed unavoidable.
"I-I..." she tried to murmur, but nothing came to mind, no words escaped her mouth. There was nothing she could do now. They were lost to each other for now, and it would take a great deal amount of courage and determination to fix things.
"I'm sorry," she finally whispered, moving again, but this time actually stepping away.

He snorted inwardly, fighting in a battle that had already won over him effortlessly. He didn't like being bickered at, and in many normal cases, would've shyed away from things. Why had Whisper been any different? Or at the very least, why hadn't he tried to make things better? His ears perked up gently whenever she tried to utter forth a response, but barely could manage an 'I'm sorry'. So she was sorry, eh? Sorry for what? Sorry for changing, or sorry for just being..... Blah. His mind couldn't think straight, and his vision was starting to blur. "I'm sorry too." he said sternly, but sincerely. "I'm sorry this had to happen." All this notioned without even passing her a single final glance, the gamma took off, leaving her no time to question things, and no time to make up for lost time. If he didn't leave now, he might do something he'd surely regret forever... he could just feel it...

A slight sigh fell from the female's lips. This had definitely not gone well. In fact, it had turned out worse than she had ever dreamed it would. It seemed they were over for good, and that they wouldn't even continue to live on as acquiantances. Why must things have had such a... vile... outcome? Surely it would have been better for both if they had at least settled their dispute. What had it been over in the first place, anyways? She could not remember, and felt quite silly for not having tried to fix things.
Yet it couldn't be helped now, though Whisp couldn't help but take a step in the direction he had headed off to, almost thinking of running after him. But no... that wouldn't do. It seemed that they were doomed to argue forever in each other's presence or live apart and unknowing of one another.
The last seemed more suitable for both at the moment, and so the green female trotted off, away from Fute and the conflicts that brewed between the two.
