I normally don't say this sort of stuff, but this has got to be the most pathetic attempt at advertising I'd ever seen for Planned Parenthood http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?ReleaseID=35012 The message does enough, but you know that there'll be a group there sooner or later holding up pictures of dead fetus, it's begging it Article News Advisory: -- "One Life to Live" Star Bree Williamson To Speak at Press Conference Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) will unveil a new campaign to ensure that issues of reproductive health and rights remain in the public eye and in the national political dialogue as all eyes turn to New York. A new 14 x 48 foot illuminated billboard that reads: "Is America Pro-Choice? Yes. Keep it that way" is prominently posted on the East side of Seventh Avenue between 30th and 31st Street, well within view of Madison Square Garden. The billboard is part of a larger advertising campaign that includes advertising on over 65 telephone booths in a 5-block radius around Madison Square Garden. Telephone booth and billboard advertising will run until September 15. PPNYC is also gearing up for New York City's largest march for reproductive rights ever, scheduled for Saturday August 28th across the Brooklyn Bridge. The march is co-sponsored by Republicans for Choice, among other leading organizations. WHAT: PLANNED PARENTHOOD UNVEILS PRO-CHOICE PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN WHEN: Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 12:30 pm WHERE: 31st Street and 7th Avenue, Northwest corner, New York WHO: Joan Malin, CEO, Planned Parenthood of New York City Bree Williamson, One Life to Live New York City Elected Officials Scores of Pink-Clad Activists Contact: Miriam Gerace (212) 274-7294; (917) 664-1624 http://www.usnewswire.com/

kp606 August 22, great day for a terrorist attack stare xd Bitter much? Planned Parenthood isn't quite so large here. The only Planned Parenthood in Halifax (The city I live in.) is really small and located above a subway. Also in there, there's nothing about abortion, it's all about protection.

Everyone guy and girl who has sex more than once needs to know protection is needed, do we need to tell the world some more?

Everyone guy and girl who has sex more than once needs to know protection is needed, do we need to tell the world some more? You have to understand their mind-set though. To them abortion IS protection. They don't have to remember to take a pill everyday. Or pay a fair amount to get a needle every 3 months. Or wear a condom. To them that baby is nothing more than a leaf or blade of grass, why would they do anything that caused an inconvienience to them?

pro-choice advertising seems perfectly fair, i've seen many pro-life advertisements in the city that I live in anyway.

Yes, its fair, but your missing the point. Their sighn is miss leading. To those who are undecided, and then they see a sighn that says all of America is pro-choice, they coud all of a sudden feel little and be pushe dinto accpeting pro-choice. Not just that, but its a goruping generalisation. Amirica has actualy shown to be about half and half, neither side has more weight on the scale then the other. Its just that the folcrum of this balance scale is more down to their end.
SO, no, this advertisment is not fair, and it's message is wrong.

Oh well, I've seen signs in my community that are swaying the pro-life side of the debate too. it also is not fair and the message is wrong but it's still there too. Anyway, if someone is so simple minded to put such a large issue in the decision mkaing of some billboard than well, I don't know how strong their belief in it actually is if such a small thing could completely push it in set way. They may end up pro-choice or pro-life but this belief would seem quite weak. "So how did you end up with such a decision into such an important issue that has nagged at the brains of millions for so many many many years?" "Well , I was walking down the street and saw a billboard sign." "Uh huh..is that all" "Oh ya, pretty much. Who could argue with a billboard sign" it just doesn't seem like much of a perswation.

Obviously billboards do something; Otherwise they wouldn't exist. And we are talking about tilting people one way or the other with a -lie-. Give us an example where a Pro-Life group put up a sign that lies, and we'll strike that down too, believe me. We've done it before. But in this case, they are implying that everyone is Pro-Choice, a lie that is spread everywhere else too. And you should know that peer-pressure is a big thing with kids. And ads are very effective; Otherwise there would be no reason to have them.

Bill boards get you thinking. They don't persuade you. Its that thining that may or may not persuade you. ITs actualy quite effective. Bill board advertisment in some cases are far more efective then tellevised one. When the human mind reads a set of words or phrases, the words become imprented on the mind, and in the back of their head, they it may or may not repeat them over and over. WHen this happens, the may take notice and begin to think about it. Once they start thinking about it, they may or may not choose to make a descision.

Not to mention that I, for one, go into a sort of zen-like, almost hypnotized state when I drive, so things that I see would hit me in a subconcious way; I wouldn't even think about them actively, they would just chill in my subconcience.
