Sinn sat at one of the tall glass tables on a wrought iron chair with a tall back. The dark skinned elf was dressed in a deep green top with a matching jacket and brown pants. The jacket was draped elegantly over his shoulders as he took a sip from a small tea cup as he watched a majenta haired girl work at writing a letter. He raised an eyebrow from over the rim of his cup as she erased the begining for the fifth time. Toshi examined the piece of paper again before shaking her head of wild majenta hair and muttering something as she began to erase again. "Ah! Siiiinnnn, writing a letter is haaaard!" she complained, sitting up and away from the source of her frustration and sagging against the back of her chair, boot clad legs dangling limply. "Then why not just call him on the telephone?" the elf asked archly as he put down his tea cup. "But I don't know his number!" "Then look it up in the telephone book." "But I don't know his last name!" "....Do you even know his address?" "Uh...no." "Then how do you expect to send him a letter?" the elf asked dryly. Toshi looked down at her paper in surprise. After a moment she wailed "It's hopeless! I'll never see him again!!" The man seemed unnerved by her sudden burst of emotions, and patted her akwardly on the back, trying to comfort her.

"There really isn't any need for me to accompany you down to the store, you know. You've gone many times by yourself, so why the sudden request?"
Rown held the hand of the small boy next to her, a gentle smile on her lips. She had left the boy alone so much recently that she was quite surprised by him approaching her and asking her to go with him. The surprise was pleasant none the less, so she agreed and journeyed with him.
"No real reason...I just wanted you to be with me today. I've been...lonely for some reason. I feel lonely and sad, like I'm missing something or someone. I keep having a feeling that you're going somewhere far away and leaving me behind."
Rown looked down, raising an eyebrow. She paused on the road and knelt down, placing both hands on Dusk's sweatered shoulders. They were very close to the lanturn shop that was their destination for the day, but the slight delay wouldn't matter. It wasn't like they had to be there at a set time.
"I'm not going anywhere, sweetie. My traveling days are over for now, and they shouldn't start again for a good while. You can relax and know that I'll never leave you and you'll never leave me."
"Promise?"
She nodded, and Dusk smiled beneath his usually stone facade. He took Rown's hand again when she offered it, and together they reached the store without any issue. As Dusk pushed open the door his ears twitched with a familar voice, though it sounded like it was wailing.
"Ton-chan? Are you here?"

Toshi's head snapped up from where it'd been resting on her arms. A bright smile lit her face as she heard Dusk's voice call out to her. "Dusk's here!" she cried jubilantly, nearly knocking her chair, Sinn's tea, and the table over in her mad rush to the door. "Dusk! I missedyouandIwaswritingyoualettercuzHakarigotyousomethingbut..." Toshi paused for a breath before continuing. "Ididn'tknowyouraddresssoIcouldn'tsenditsoIwassadbutnowyourhereYAY!" she said, her mouth running non-stop as she pounced the sheep boy, knocking them both to the ground in her excitement. "Oh! Sorry, I was just so happy!" she said, kissing Dusk on the cheek happily in a friendly manner and then rolling off of him and standing up.
Sinn only just managed to save his tea from spilling as the excited youngster rushed off to meet her friend. "So much for the waterworks." The man grumbled to himself. He finished off the rest of his tea and then stood, brushing off imaginary bits of dust and walking over to where Rown, Dusk, and Toshi were. "Good afternoon." The elf said, fairly towering over everyone else in the room. Despite his height though, he gave them all an elegant, courtly bow.

Rown smiled gently, her eyes glowing as she looked at the little lanturn, and then back up at Sinn. She'd known him from before, this kind elf that saved Dusk and Sol, and she was somewhat pleased to see him again. Of course she felt a little bitter towards him because of the mess he left in her birdcage, but all ways forgiven for now.
"Wow Sinn, you've grown and changed. You look wonderful, I'm glad to see it. You as well Toshi, aren't you cute. It's good to see that you're still friends with Dusk."
"Mama...geez."
Dusk rubbed his cheek from where Toshi had kissed him, pushing himself into a standing position next to his pink friend. He dusted the back of his pants off, also dusting his shoulders and his knees. His braid ruffled against his back as he moved, letting a few hairs slide out and loose.
"Ton-chan, why were you so worried about me? I come here a lot, but you're never here. And you said Hakari-mama got me something? I wonder what it is, hopefully not something bad, yeah."
He smiled faintly at his friend, his blue eyes staring deep into her own.

"It is good to see you after such a long time, Rown." Sinn said with a polite nodd. "How are...things?" he asked in a neutral voice, unsure of where to start a conversation.
Toshi grinned up at Rown and said "Of course I'm still his friend, why wouldn't I be?!" after a moment though she turned back to Dusk, grinning "I know! that's why I was gonna write a letter, but that didn't ...no matter though! you're here no so i can give you the scroll!" She said and bounded away into the back room and came back moments later with a thin scroll and handed it to him. "And it's really good! just open it and see!" she said excitedly.
When Dusk opened the scroll, he would see that it was a large, colored map of the area surrounding their city, Spyre City. (see the above map) at the bottom in small, but graceful looking script was a hand written message. Dusk, Congratulations on being the first of any of the spirits within Potato Lord and I's shop to be eligable for a quest. You have been chosen to journey abroad to find yourself a level four lanturn. I will not tell you exactly where it is, for what fun would the journey be if you knew the destination? I will give you this hint though:
'Find the place where you can become stronger'
This hint may be a bit vague, and if so, good! It will make your trip all the more interesting and educational, as I discovered it was when I first began travelling on my own. You though, shall not be alone. I have given Toshi instructions to accompany you on your trip to help make things easier for you since it is no doubt your first time leaving the city on your own, and you and Toshi will be the first of your kind to do so. Good luck and happy travelling! Hakari
PS. Ah, one more thing. Toshi, I have left you a gift in the same place that I have left Dusk's lanturn. It could prove useful to you in the future. Consider it a birthday present from me.

Dusk's eyes ran over the fine script, his mind trying to process what was suddenly being told to him. He looked over at Toshi, then back at the map, and finally over to Rown.
"Mama...this scroll says I have to go away. Go away to find my level four lanturn, whatever that is."
The sheep-child looked down at the map again, reading it over several times to make sure he had made no mistakes in his mind. He really didn't want to go, but it sort of made sense now. He had been feeling that Rown would leave him for a long time, but in reality it was turning out to be the other way around.
"It also says that Ton-chan is going with me, and there's something there for her too, yeah. What do you think is going on? I don't want to go away, but...does this mean you don't want me anymore?"
Rown's gentle smile turned into a slight frown, and she knelt down once more to the little boy's level. Dusk sniffed a bit as a fear tears rolled down his cheeks, threatening to break into a full-blown cry at any minute.
"It means, sweetie, that you have to go in order to grow. The time has come for you to change into something bigger, something different. It won't change who you are, of course, since you will always be Dusk. It'll just change what you look like, and maybe even your point of view on some things. Don't worry at all about this, because you'll have Toshi by you the whole way. You'll never be lonely then, right? You love Toshi."

"Aww, don't cry dusk!" Toshi said reasuringly. "It'll be fun! Just you, me, and the open road! We'll have all sorts of really fun adventures!" she said, hoping the boy would cheer up. "Hakari said that we should take the road to the east." she said, coming over and pointing it out to him. She read the note at the bottom as she did and her eyes lit up. "Something for me?! I wonder what it is!" she exclaimed in surprise.

Dusk nodded and rubbed his cheeks, trying to get the tears away. Toshi seemed so excited about all of this, leaving Dusk to wonder if she ever got sad or lonely in her life. After finally rubbing all his tears away, Dusk's cheeks were a tiny bit violet and they stung a little.
"If...if you say so Ton-chan, then I'll go with you. It's okay if we're together, yeah. But...maybe I should cut my hair or something before we go on the trip. Long hair...is a hassle sometimes, you know?"
He fingered the braid that he had pulled over his shoulder, tugging at the already loose strands with nimble fingers. In his mind he was desperatly thinking of what they would need in order to go, what he would need in order to leave. His thoughts continued in their own way, not noticing that Rown had slowly slipped out while he was concentrating.
"He'll be fine, I know he will. Ha-chan would never let them go anywhere dangerous...without good reason."
Rown sighed and looked at the watch on her wrist, taking a moment to glance at the time before she turned away. A cigarette came out of her pocket and she pulled it to her lips, lighting it quickly and taking a drag. The house was going to be quiet now...

"Okay good!" Toshi said brightly. "Oh! don't cut your hair Dusk! It's so pretty! Though actually...you can't since you're a spirit." she said with a laugh. "And I can braid it for you, or you can get a hat!" she said cheerfully. "Well, how about we go now then?" she asked with a grin after a moments silence. It became apparent that she was being completely serious from the look on her face.
"Now that's not terribly healthy." Sinn said in a quiet voice as he came out the door right after Rown did, his golden eyes flicking to the cigarrette and frowning.

"Feh, a lot of things I do aren't healthy. Living with him is one of them, you know."
Rown took another drag on the cigarette, debating on whether or not to go back in and say good-bye properly to her little spirit. After a moment she decided against it and put the cigarette out against the store's wall, placing the butt in her pocket.
"What the hell is Ha-chan up to with this, sending them out to find something? If it was anyone but her asking me to trust them over something so hairbrained I would've said no."
"I can't cut it? That explains why whenever I tried it always grew back very very quickly. Or else the scissors couldn't cut through it and I ended up nearly tearing my face open, yeah."
Dusk reached over and took Toshi's right hand, squeezing it as if to assure himself that she was by his side. He nodded to her question, his blue eyes watery but serious, his face stone set. Dusk rolled the map up and slid it into his back pocket, giving Toshi a nod of 'lead the way'.
"We should go now, before I change my mind and run back to Mama. That would be silly, huh? So let's go, I can't wait to see what's waiting for us."

"How is Dusk un-healthy?" THe elf asked, puzzled by what she said. "It'll all work out in the end if I know Mother and the way she works. No doubt the pair of them will come back the better and more mature for their trip." He said with a shrug. "You should be happy he's getting this chance though. Mother wouldn't do this for just anyone, especially not for free." He commented.
"Great! I've got packs ready already and everything!" She said, running into the back room and returning with two small packs. They weren't very large since as they were only spirits, they did not need to eat or drink. The bags did have umbrella's, a tarp, and sleeping bags in them though. There was a second map for Toshi in her bag as well as some geisen, just in case. Toshi handed Dusk his bag which was a kind of greyish-purple color, and then donned her own majenta one and said "Alright! Lets go!"

"Dusk's fine, it's the other one I'm talking about. But don't worry, he's been handled enough that he doesn't do anything."
Rown reached into her pocket for another cigarette, but stopped as she rested her other hand against her forehead. Today was really stressing her out, but none the less she had to hang in there. With a sigh she turned to Sinn and smiled, a tired smile at best.
"Tell your mother I said thank you for all she's done for me, in the past and the present. Also...if you see Dusk before they set out, tell him I'll be thinking of him."
With that, Rown turned and started walking off, giving a faint wave as she went. Good-byes were fairly easy for her now, since she'd done so many over her life.
"Wow Ton-chan, you've thought of everything! This is going to be a lot of fun, now that I know we'll be okay. What do you think my lanturn will look like? Or what I will look like for that matter? Or you too! Maybe we'll be as tall as Mama and the others, or even smaller!"
Dusk slid the pack onto his back, taking care that his braid didn't get pinched beneath it. That would hurt when he moved his head, so he was cautious. He took a good look at his feet and his lower back, making sure everything was in place. He didn't want to somehow ruin this trip for himself and Toshi, so everything had to be right - even at this spur of the moment.
"Okay Ton-chan, lead the way! I'll follow you no matter where we go, so don't lose me!"

"I don't know! Hakari says it's always a surprise! Well, except for her, potato, sinn and bumby." Toshi said as an after thought. "They know everything!" Toshi said, laughing and waving her arms about. "Anyways, lets get going!" she said, grabbing Dusks hand and walking out of the building with him. She paused and looked up at Sinn who was staring off into the distance as though thinking very hard. "Hey Sinn?" Toshi's voice startled Sinn out of his reverie and he looked down at the small pair and smiled. "Oh, hello. Are you leaving now?" he asked. "Yup! Will to tell everyone bye for me?" Toshi asked. "Of course." The elf said with a kind smile. On impulse he gave his small friend a hug and patted Dusk on the shoulder saying "You two take care of each other. I'll be leaving soon too, so who knows? Maybe we'll run into one another?" He said with a smile. "Oh! Dusk, your keeper told me to tell you goodbye, and that she'll be thinking of you." He said. "Right, well, see you around Sinn!" Toshi said, and started off, smiling excitedly at the adventures that no doubt lay ahead of them.

"Mama did? Well...thank you for telling me."
Dusk called back over his shoulder as Toshi pulled him away, his braid bouncing with each step.
They were really leaving, Dusk and Toshi, so the little sheep-lanturn hardly knew what to make of the situation. His mother had left him without properly saying good-bye, and now he was being lead into someone unfamiliar by his best friend.
"Today is a very odd day, don't you think Ton-chan? I wonder what Sinn was upset about, and maybe if we do see him again, will our quest be over?"
He continued to ponder as he held Toshi's hand, his face flushed a little with happiness from being in contact with her.
