Is anyone here going to participate in Day of Silence? If so, what are you planning?

I definitely am. My school GSA started it last year and it was a big success. We sold T-shirts and gave out cards for everyone to hand out on that day that explained the Day of Silence and why participants were doing it.
We're planning it out currently for this year. We were thinking of doing rainbow armbands or armbands with Day of Silence slogans instead of T-shirts because we figured a lot of people had them from last year, too. But we're still thinking on the T-shirts.

My school's GSA has noted that the biggest problem with the DoS is that there are more people who support the cause than think that being silent actually affects anything so we're making bracelets with ranbow beads to give to supporters of the DoS whether they are being silent or now.

Last year we handed out purple ribbons but maybe we can get some kind of table or something like that. I don't know. I'll see how it turns out.

My school is pretty Homophobic. Everything that could be considered non-strait is a major taboo. I've been yelled at for having my arm around a guy's waist before, it's odd how they never yell at me when I have my arm around a girl's waist.
Well I've tried starting the DoS in my school before but they refused to even consider it. This year I'm just going to do an under the table deal. *smiles* We'll be a rebel faction.
Getting a GSA started in my school has also been unaccomplishable do to the fact that no teacher so far has been willing to stand up for their students. We've got some new teachers this year so it might be possible.

I live in an extremely liberal (for the South) town, and the Day of Silence has always been an important part of the school year for our GSA.
Although many people participate, not many people feel it's needed, seeing how most everyone in our school is tolerent of homosexuality.
However, there's always some rich white kid from the suburbs who makes vulgar remarks in the halls or beats up a homosexual male for glancing at him. Anything that the GSA can do to change these people's minds is worth it, even in such a liberal bastion.

I'm definetly gonna do it. 3nodding
Since I go to a Missouri private school and there is no GSA, I'm just gonna wear a shirt I made myself. It says tolerance across the front with a rainbow on it. heart
