I've been playing paintball for 5 years and by now I'm tired of noobs, rec, and scenairo players using the term "Sniper" in the game of paintball. I'm sorry but your not a "Sniper", your more likely a person who doesn't want to get hit(I know the objective of the game is not to get hit but thats no need to be a coward) and do little to no movement at all.

Now I've got math to tell you that your not a "sniper".Paintballs travel pretty much in the same velocity range, a good velocity usally travels at a speed of 270-300 FPS. By having the same velocity as every other marker out there, the paintball is not going to magically fly further.Basically saying your going to need to move or wait there, becuase your ball will only travel so far. I know barrels such as the Flatline can improve distance but it is not going to double your length. Also there is no need for barrels that go past 16". A paintball usally achieves its max speed before 14" into the barrel. By adding more inches you can only stabalize the shot more, but there is no need for a 20" barrel.
Paintballs are also not perfectly rounded so they will not always fly the same distance and hit the same exact spot.

Another thing is if your going to be a "sniper", why are people using semi markers then??? A pump such as a Phantom has a better profile for the needs of a sniper then a semi.Pumps tend to be light, low profile, accurate, made strong, and generate a small amount of noise.

If you still think your a "sniper" you need to go get some help.

I know this is a rant and can possibly anger people, but I'm telling the facts and truths of paintball.

this is true, however there might not be sniper like guns, but you can have sniper liek tactics (i think) and not using XXbps to take your opponents out, yeah a pump works.

but more importantly, its the thought of being a sniper that brings alot of people to the sport, annoying as it may be,it helps our sport grow.

edit:this little rant doesnt have anythign to do with what buffinator said in the upgrades thread does it? blaugh

I understand that it does draw people in to the sport, but there is a time when you need to let it go. The big part of the paintball industry has changed to the tournament scene sense there are millions or dollars to earn in it.
I also know the tatic thought is still there, but only so many of those tatics apply the same way in paintball as real combat tatics. I'm all for being sneaky and all but some are just a waste of thought.

Yes this kinda was triggered by his post, but believe me I've been ranting about it in my brain for along time.

i forgot what i said to cause such anger O_o? lol

but yeah... i know theres no such thing as i real paintball sniper, but there are some sharpshooters out there that i know that can really pick a guy off at a huge distance and know when hes out or in range to hit someone, when hes crawling through the woods hes hit me and ive never seen him... you tell me thats not a sniper lol

he was using a pump btw, although bolt action works well too

I don't say this outta anger just as facts and the overall things I've heard from people. You gotta figure I ref walk-on games a lot so I hear a lot of stuff that is sometimes just stupid and not correct about the sport.

I have no problem with the term "Sharpshooter". Thats basically a person who can be at any distance and put a shot on something. As for "sniper" is someone from a distance in a hidden area that takes shots. Atleast thats how I define those 2 words in my book.

Also nice to see if he was gonna call himself a "sniper" that he is using a pump and not to a semi.

another point of mine,a paintball sniper is nothing like a real military sniper, its all about sneaking around, have the nerve to let a squad walk past u,then jumping out and liteing up all fo them from behind,a military sniper sits on a roof and takes like 2 hours to line up a shot from a kilometer away, they in no way are alike, the kids the spoil this for everyone are the noobs with there 21 inch barrels and there 1000x zoom scopes, just cus someone thinks there a sniper doesnt always mean there a stupid noob,

I disagree,

There is allot more to sniping then JUST your gear. When your a sniper you have to be with the enviroment, smell, look like your soroundings. In real life snipers crawl and slowly move along with the wind to get to their point without getting noticed. It takes a great deal of patience and skill to pay attention to your surroundings thrugh a scope and still keep an eye behind you. They even have to smell like their surrounding areas. Then you actually have to be able to hit your target dead on. Snipers are highly skilled killing machines.

For everyone that says their spoiling the game for everyone else, Ask yourself this. Is war fair?

You got sniped learn from your mistakes and stop bitching about how you think it's unfair. Combat is unfair. Tell the Vientcong their fighting dirty I dare you.

I'm not disagreeing with real life snipers, yeah I gotta hand it to them that they have to learn and know a lot to be a sucessful sniper. Now its when people throw the idea of people being snipers in Paintball. As you know a real gun for a Sniper travels at a great distance with accuracy, as for you semi-auto weapons may get good accuracy but only after so far. All paintball markers reach a general distance of so many feet. So when you have no great distance advantage it seems really pointless. Also Paintballs do not fly like real bullets they are round and usally never hit the same spot of the dot at a decent distance.

I find it that people who are "snipers" in Paintball are just people alittle afriad to get hit and just want to make it a pain on the other team. I'll give you some props if you are "sniper" and actually move around on the field but if you generally sit in two or 3 spots that when it becomes stupid, your just waiting for your oppurtunity just to walk up on some people and shoot them, yeah thats real skill. Now when your facing 5-6 guys in a open field with a Pump and your the last guy and you manage to hold your ground and eliminate 3 of them thats skill.
