By that I mean did you ever make an assumption about a member of Nightwish before learning more about them? For instance before Tarja was sacked and you found out all those nasty (apparent) points of her personality what did you imagine her to be before then? Same goes for every member of the band. Not just Tarja, this isn't a discus Tarja only thread! But please it is interesting to find that stuff out.

Before I read the letter I assumed Tarja to be a sweet, innocent and virginal human being. Why? Because when I was first introduced to Nightwish I thought that Tarja wrote the lyrics. The lyrics were so sweet, soft and at times saddening. I figured her personality would be very similar to that. But once I discovered it was in fact Tuomas who wrote the songs I was indeed shocked, but for some reason the Tarja 'persona' that I had fabricated stayed.

So, what about you?

I really wouldn't say "virginal".

Since I first heard them, I've always thought they were simply human, simply artists. You know that feel that you get from the artistic community..? No..? Yeah, well.. sweatdrop

My assumption of her was before I even saw a picture or anything along those lines. It was more what one wishes their idols to be. Perfect, well your idea of perfect anyway. So you see why I thought that. Though deep inside I did realize that they were human and what not, just like you posted. But there must be something that you thought of one particular member before you found something out about them. Like before you knew Jukka was in the army, did you think he would have been weak? I dunno, I'm really more interested in what the human mind wishes to see of their idols, just by the sound of their music, or they way they look, before they knew anything about them I found many interesting things by asking this question to people. You see I am a geek in terms of wanting to know how the mind works. This is really just another one of my 'experiments.' ninja

I still love her, she seems charming and really nice.
But yeah now Simone Simons is one of my favourites heart

I don't particularly like Epica a lot xp
Simone's voice is kinda boring, she never seems to change her tone that often, or at least in the songs I've heard...

I don't think your experiment will go right when it involves me. I really don't think of them as something other than human. When I first heard them I thought "These guys are amazing musicians!" but never really set into a mindset of "So-and-so must be really deep," or "She's so kind". My brain acknowledges immediately (before I can get into a guessing mindset) that we're all human and we don't fit into the boxes of other people's minds.

It's really quite interesting to meet people like you who have an interest in the psyche.

Yes `tis is. A very few amount of people have what you can do. Some would say what you just explained to me is an act of dehumanization and that at one point your brain must have made an assumption at one point. Others would say that some people can do this (what you described you do) but it is rare to find such a person. It has been proved that it is human nature to make assumptions and such things to just take something as it is comes from being taught it over a period time. So you see what you just told me has puzzled many a psychologists. 3nodding
You are a freak! surprised
Just joshing you! 4laugh

I've made assumptions in the past, but never about people. And even if you're joshing, some still consider me one. Ho-hum.. more to think about for me now.

(I apologize in advance for spelling and grammar u_u Not a native speaker)

I don't really think there's anybody who doesn't make pre-assumptions about the vocalists of a band ... There are people who's jobs are to make us believe certain things about the bands character and personalities, mostly through posters and poses.

I don't really recall what I used to think of Tarja, though. I've kept it as a pride to remind myself that I don't know people, and haven't got a clue what they're like - Tuomas, however, I've always admired and adored, and I almost believe to know him even though I've only seen him on a screen and at a concert ...

I remember a few interviews I've read though, where it appeared to me that Tarja's more diva-ish personality shined through. Random things she'd say, as to where Tuomas was always more ... shy, and in the background.

... Okay, I've lost the thread now. What was I talking about?
