((I am rping a little girl unless anyone needs me to play the chief guy!))

The young girl was skipping around, she could hear the village dogs barking, must be lunch tmie or something. She had heard rumours of a hunt soon, one to take wild dog pups, that would be interesting, though being female she would have to stay and wait for them to return. Why couldn't she work with the dogs? Then she would be allowed to go!

She skipped around, her skinny form rather happy. The village was small at the moment so she had places to go and play, how fun it all was! Mbele was a happy girl just dissapointed about the wild dog hunt.

Even if it weren't for his clothes, Bartholomew "Bat" King would have stood out in the midst of the goings on. His skin, though burnt brown from the sun, was still unmistacably not the startling and exotic tone of the natives, and his sun bleached sandy hair and blue-green eyes help to drive home the point, even if his dusty european style clothes hadn't already done the job.
While he may find the company of the villagers 'tollerable' as he puts it, as close as he'll admit to many to considering them freinds, the requirements to make him dress like one would probably involve a lot of alchohol and the overall destruction of his own clothes.
He curls a smile around the cigarette dangling from his lip, which looks about as dusty as he does.
"If you skip much harder you're going to turn into a grasshopper..." He jokes, in his heavily accented attempts to speak the language, pantomining a grasshopper with one hand just in case he hasn't picked the right word.

Asad sat close enough to hear the conversation but far enough to have his privacy as he worked on stretching a skin. The hunters were teaching the younger boys how to clean up a kill, take the skin and stretch it so it could be used for clothing or the like later on, cut the meat and sperate what was good and what was best for the dogs, how to clean the bones so they too could be used for tools or decoration later on. It was a gazelle and he'd taken the task of dealing with the skin while an older boy handled the rest of the carcass.

He glanced over towards the 'pale man', raising an eyebrow at his comment. He liked hearing the man talk, or try to talk, their language. He spoke the words understandably for the most part but he had an accent to it that sounded silly, kind of like a baby trying to learn how to speak.

Snick and Snap, Bat's two huge mastiff crossess, lift their heads and add their own throaty crys to the cacoffany from the village dogs, an eery hungry sound these two make, before they break if off and come trotting across the dusty ground to join up with Bat, dropping to their haunches near by like a pair of hungry, jowly lions, ears perked, legs tenced so taughtly that it's hard to mistake their bellow low stances for relaxation. They can sense the mood, and it has them eager to go.

Th young girl smiled and bowed to the man, "I apologize sir, maybe I should be more careful next time!" She chuckled and headed off towards the dogs, "I better feed them, you can come help please." She laughed silently to herself, the pale man was funny!

"Sure, I can do that..." He respods, chucling himself, gesturing with one hand, which causes both dogs to spring to their feet, tails sweeping back and forth in an interested wag. "Now his name I remember..." He gestures at Asad... "But I don't think I gathered yours..." He flinches, clearly aware he didn't use the right word that time. "Unless you want me to keep calling you "Grasshopper"."

"Your close but I am afraid wrong, Mbele." She smiled and headed to where all the dogs were. They were kept in a paddock with walls they could jump with ease though none did, they wouldnt leave as they knew they wouldnt get fed if they did. The young girl looked around for the people who looked after the dogs, shrugging she went to get the carcasses of the human meals, throwing about five or six into the paddock and then another two into the pup encloseure. This way the strongest dogs survived, it was the way of getting the stronger dogs away from the weaker ones.

Asad snickered at the conversation, securing another bit of the skin to the hoop that it would be drying on for the rest of the next few days. He did sound funny, and Asad loved it when he man mistook one word for the other. For the moment, he'd finish up his work. If he did a good job then he was allowed to go on the dog hunt. The notion of it really had the boy excited- perhaps they'd kill a few adults for skins and take some of the pups, he always wanted his own dog.

Bat fires a glare...and the end of his cigarette, at Asad, remarking sharpling in english, which Asad himself struggles to learn.
"Yeah I dun hear you speakin so good yerself, boy..." He growls, in a heavy western twang, the same one that corrupts his own attempts to speak the more native language. "Wiseacre..." He adds, before turning his attentions back to Mbele, and following her off to take care of the dogs. Snick and Snap are already close on her heels. While most of the words and commands they understand are either curt whistles or english, 'Food' is interesting enough for them to pick it up quickly, whatever the language.
"Bet he doesn't strut so much when we're hunting..." He grumbles, of Asad, peering into the paddock at the dogs, as he fishes in a pocket for his cigarette case, cursing more under his breath in english.

Maybe the foreign man didn't know but either way this young girl was fluent in several languages. How she had learnt them only she knew and no one else would ever know. She turned to the white man and in perfect English, "Will you stop cursing our people, you can get in trouble for it." She smiled and giggled before turning to the boy, then back at the white man, "You finish here!" She smiled and ran over to the little boy.

"Are you going on the hunt for the dogs? I wish I could come but I have been promised a pup!" She smiled and scrambled to sit next to the boy, at least he could talk their language properly.

Bat scowls at this, startled, then fires back as she scampers away. "Maybe when he stops laughin, I'll stop cussin!" He snorts, lighting a cigarette. Rotten kids...was he ever such a pain in the arse? Was he so absoloutely c**k sure he knew -everything-?
Yeah...prob'ly. He had to admit that much, but in retrospect it was a lot easier to see where a cuff on the ear had come from whenever he'd opened his mouth in that smart allek tone. Still, he got enough snobbery from gentry without dealing with it from a pair of varmints like this, who couldn't even yet take into account his own skills, just the way he talks.
Grumphling, he makes sure the dogs are fed, tossing in one more carcass in the end just to make sure, and feeding a few bits to Snick and Snap. No one was exactly going to doubt THEIR value, or they his. That settled it, dogs were just better than kids, consarn it.

"Of course I'm going on the dog hunt." Asad snorted, tossing his head up so the dreadlocks that always seemed to fall in his face were tossed back out of his eyes for the moment, "What you think I want to sit around the camp all day and do woman's work?" Yeah that was a bit crude, but so was he and hell if he changed his ways right then an there. "Besides, it's about time I got my own dog."

The girl chuckled, she rarely if ever did this so called womens work, after all she was growing to be the villaes seer. "I hope your nice to the chief then, you do know he choses who has the pups dont you?" She spoke in a sly way knowing she got first choice of the pups that were caught and hey, being the favourite was always a good thing, now if only she could get on that hunt.

(( And you should see her walk on water! ))

"Yeah, but it won't be a girl over a boy, that's how it goes you know." He stood himself up to inspect his work on the skin, smirking and nodding in approval. "Besides, I work just as hard as some of the men around here do, more hard than any of you girls... so why shouldn't I get a dog? Who else takes time to stretch the skins that well?"

"And who else spends as much time preening his feathers as you two?" Bat snorts, exhaling smoke like a dragon, raising an eyebrow pointedly at Asad's scratch scarred chest. Although he has scars of his own, they weren't taken on a childs quest to show their superiority.
"Maybe thats why neither of you has your little monkey hands on a dog yet...we don't even know how the hunt's going to go. So maybe both of you better settle."
This time he really did mean to say monkey hands, refering to the both of them being so eager to grab a puppy that they're grabbing at everything, and for their benefit, he speaks their language again, though his testyess doesn't help the twang in his voice, as he rubs the ears of Snick and Snap, who obediantly follow him back to the children breifly, standing one at each side of him, tounges lolling.
