Yay! Guess what...my Johnny Depp week starts today! ^^ I know, technically, the week starts tomorrow...but I guess I'll just have to end Saturday instead of Sunday.
Title: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Rating: PG
Overall Rating: A 5 out of 5.
The Story: You all pretty much know the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It's about a poor boy named Charlie who hears about a contest that Willy Wonka is holding at his factory. Of course, he wants to go, however, he has no money.
To make a somewhat long story, short, he ends up winning a golden ticket found in a chocolate bar and gets to go through the tour of the chocolate factory with four other spoiled children.
My Critique: Okay, I'm mainly going to be comparing the old Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to the modern Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My sister and I first saw this movie in the theatres and I couldn't get enough of it. The day it came out, she bought it and I still love it, after seeing it about three or four times.
What I mainly like about this one, is Johnny's acting. The guy is really a genius. He can make any character his own and doesn't seem like the same guy in two different movies. He says some pretty funny things at times that my sister and I will quote constantly.
Another thing I enjoy about this movie, is the good quality. In the old one, I don't know about you, but everything just creeped me out. The guy who played Willy Wonka in the old one was some kind of psycho, not to mention the Oompa Loompa's gave me nightmares with their insane dancing and songs.
Really, it freaked me out.
This one didn't do that to me. The graphics were pretty awesome, the acting was MUCH better, as were the Oompa Loompa's song choices. I have a couple of friends who didn't like it as much as the old one, but they're not reviewing it, are they?
One thing different, is Willy Wonka's background. In the old one, he basically just shut down because someone (Slugworth, I believe. Who isn't even mentioned in the new one) stole his secret recipe. He does shut down in the new one, yet Charlie's grandpa used to work for Willy and Willy's childhood is also revealed. I think that gives it a bit of depth.
Anyway, I have it a PERFECT score of 5 out of 5 just because I could watch it over and over again. Not to mention, it was a fun movie to watch as well as...well, I just enjoy Johnny Depp. He was the perfect one for the role.
