Just as the gypsies made their way up to the bridges that would lead them down the series of paths to the village of Silver's birth... a familiar face came upon the wagons, coming up to the caravans with a smile, gold and silver birdcages hanging of her arms, their residents ruffling their feathers and swaying happily in the breeze.
...Or, at least, it was a familiar face to one. This was Merce, the Enallas Trader who came from the south with wares of beautiful birds that told fortunes and did wonders. ...After Lorelei had helped reunite her with her beloved St Phier, the woman had returned to the river, where her stock lay in waiting for her.
"Oh, I'm so glad I caught you all!" She said, coming up to the wagons as their owners reigned the animals to a halt. Merce waited until the gypsies had gathered around her to speak.
"I had to do something to thank you- and I can't think of anything better than to bring my wares." She was perfectly understandable to all, thanks to the Blarnbird- whose magic caused all those around him to be blessed with the understanding of languages- but only while in his presence.
"But for one... I have a very special gift." With that, the woman set her cages at her feet, and leaned down on creaked knees to open the door of a gold cage. The bird- a brilliant blue creature- leapt onto Merce's outstretched hand, then trilled a sweet song into the air.
"This is one of the sweetest Banya's I've ever had. And it was born from a very prestigious line of fortunetellers. ...I have high hopes for it. ..." she clicked her tongue, and the bird jumped to Lorelei's hand. "For you. ...For all your help. Without my beloved St Phier, I would be lost." She gave her a heartwarming smile- then turned to the others before tears of joy could gather in her eyes.
"And I have wares for you to peruse, as well!" She placed her cages up on a large rock so all could see them.

Lorelei, who had just brought her new wagon onto the road only ten or so minutes before, was elated to see Merce again. Getting down from her wagon and rushing over, she clapped her hands together happily. Vanna twittered her delight as well.
"Merce! I'm so glad to see you again, and so soon! The stone worked perfectly - that wagon - in the forest! Thank you so-"
It was then that she caught sight of the Banya and processed what Merce had said.
"For... me...?" she murmured, holding out her arms to receive it. "Thank you..." she breathed, blinking back tears of joy of her own.
The Banya and Vanna looked at each other, curiously. Vanna trilled experimentally. The Banya responded with a short chirp. Vanna ruffled her feathers and sung a short song, dancing about on Lorelei's shoulder.

Silver was lost in thought. They would be in Seinheph soon enough... She kept seeing her parents' faces in her mind, picturing how happy they would be to see her. She had so much to tell them! But Nuroah... the one person she wanted to tell most of all would not be there. Even after all these years Silver had to resist the tears forming in her eyes. She blinked them away just in time to realize the caravan was stopping. She pulled her wagon to a halt with the others and looked around to see what was going on. Khevashi, who was perched on her shoulder, squawked nervously and half-flapped his wings to keep his balance as she jumped to the ground. "Mommy!" Silver heard Aisrhan's voice from the bench where she had just been sitting. Ever since Khevashi's arrival Aisrhan had wanted to be near her brother. She no longer wanted ride in the wagon when traveling. In fact, she insisted upon being right in the driver's seat with her mother, just so she could hold Khevashi or have him sit on her shoulder. Silver smiled, "Yes, dear. I've not forgotten you." Khevashi hopped from Silver's shoulder to Vakejo's harness to get out of the way as she lifted Ais from the seat and set her on the ground. He was just as quickly with her again when she stood. "Now, my dears, we shall see what all of this is about." Silver walked slowly so that Aisrhan could keep up, though she had to admit the girl was getting better, stronger. She was sure Ais was quicker than she let on, probably quite able to out-slither her mother's slow pace.
Silver's heart caught in her throat as she saw what lay in the road before them. A trader - and banya birds! She had wanted one for so long... maybe she finally had enough couplets to purchase one for herself. She smiled kindly at the woman trader and then at Lorelei, who was holding a simply beautiful blue banya bird. The two women obviously knew each other and Silver did not want to interrupt their reunion. She decided to look over the birds as she waited for her turn to speak with the trader. They were all so beautiful, but one caught her eye in particular. To Silver, it looked as though its plumage was on fire. Silver stared in awe. "Uh, m...Ma'am?" Silver fairly stuttered. "I'm very sorry to interrupt," she smiled apologetically at Lorelei and the trader, "but could you please tell me how much you would like for this banya? He's simply gorgeous!"
Khevashi turned his head and eyed the other birds warily. These creatures were new and strange to him and he wasn't sure how to behave. Aisrhan, however, sat at her mother's side quietly, staring at the beautiful birds spread out before them.

"Oh this one," Merce said, picking up the cage gently. "He's a fire breed. ...From the south of Enallas, where I come from. I'm afraid they're rather average Banyas... but extremely good company- and more loyal than most others. You'll not find this one flying away any time soon. Oh no. ...Sixty couplets... or something for trade."

Heather being near the end of the trail of caravans had found that the trader had appeared later to her. Her horses was slowing as they needed to havea drink, so as others stopped it was a perfect oppurtunity to give water to her horses and dogs.
Once finished with them she watched Amkia for a while, traders didn't usually interest her but she also couldn't stop Amkia's intrest in them. He was a strange littlebird, fluttering here and there but he led her over to the trader and the brightly coloured birds in cages.
Amkia fluttered over to one of interesting colours and seemed to just continue to flutter around it constantly. "Amkia!" She chuckled rushing over to try and get her golden bird to do what he was told and eventually he rested on her shoulder, his small eyes glued to the bird of purple and various shades of blue. "Oh its beautiful!" She remarked before rushing towards it to stare a little more. "Oh how lovely!"

"He seems like such a sweet banya..." Silver said. "Hrmm..." She thought for a moment, trying to decide what to do. Should she buy the bird?
Khevashi flew down from his mother's shoulder to perch on Aisrhan's outstretched arm. "Khevvy!" She giggled. She still hadn't been able to say his entire name properly, but he responded just the same. Silver was glad they got along so well.
"Oh my gosh! Wait a moment..." Silver said to no one in particular. She had suddenly remembered the little black and white egg nestled in her trunk back in Weathered Melody. "Ma'am?" Silver asked the trader. "If I were to bring something to you, something like... an egg, would you possibly be able to tell me what it is? I acquired it in a trade not too long ago and have not been quite sure as to what to do with it. It's small, black with white spots, and ...is always warm. Um, I'll just go get it." Silver said. She looked at her children. "Ais, Khevashi, stay here with Lorelei. I'll be right back." With that, Silver dashed back to Weathered Melody, retrieved the egg from her trunk, and ran back to the Banya trader. She held it out, carefully. "Here... this is it. Do you know what it is?" Silver asked, hopefully.

"Oh, what a beautiful little canary," Merce said, twittering at the little beast with an appreciative eye. "It looks like those used in the Lowland Gelm Mines. ...Oh, I hope this little one is simply a pet- or a companion," she said, admiring it. The trader also noticed the bird that Heather referenced, and she lifted the cage up for her to see.
"Oh this one? This is a snow-crested. I don't know a great deal about it, but it tends to have a squnch of a sour temperament. Oh- not always- but in those times that its temper is ill, it tends to give better fortunes. So it works out." The trader laughed.

Silver asked, hopefully. While Silver was gone, Merce marvelled over the relationship of the gypsy's children. A snake-girl... and a bird... it was so peculiar to her that the avian felt comfortable around his sister- and, more than that- her birds didn't seem particularly alarmed by the creature that was such an enemy to their eggs. Perhaps this caravan held more magic than she'd thought.
Silver returned, and held out the egg to Merce, asking with hope what the egg was. Merce took it with a gentle hand, cupping its warm base in the round bowl of her palm. With a steady eye and a tracing finger, she examined the tiny egg, saying not a word.
After several minutes of this silent study, the Enallan looked up, passing the tiny egg back to its owner.
"Well, it's not a Banya. It looks like a Binay egg. Where did you get it? They're quite rare- most of them died out a century ago when they migrated from the Sheulan to the Swamps. Only a few gypsies kept the eggs in stasis. ...Would you like me to crack it for you? I have a dormant key. No charge."

The young girl smiled, "Amkia? He is more then just a pet, he is like my child, very special to me!" She chuckled and the small bird chirped his happiness. He then chirped at the bird and flew off.
Heather admired the bird some more, "I can put up with a stressy bird..." She marvaled to herself. She stared more as the trader went off to deal with anothr girl, the girl who she had something that belonged to! She ran back to her wagon to fetch some gold and the amulet.
Amkia was flying around teh caravan as she got back to it and it wasn't long before both, girl and canary were running back towards the trader and Silver. Heather ran straight over to Silver and tapped her slightly. "Excuse me, this is yours, you lent it to me for Amkias growth, I haven't had a chance to return it. Sorry." She smiled and handed the amulet over and bowed slightly, Amkia chirping away on her shoulder. She then turned to the trader. "Will you take gold for that bird amkia likes so much?"

Attracted by the trader, Caroline wanders down to Merce and her flock, and the flock of gypsies gathered 'round her. She smiles as she looks on at Silver and Heather as they purchase Banya birds. "Hm," she says out loud. "Majesty would like a wee companion he can understand, I wager," she comments to herself. "Wonder if I might be gettin' one." She approaches Merce and looks down at the two remaining Banyas--one of blue and purple and one of purest gold. The gold one is beautiful, no doubt about it, but the blue and purple one just calls to her. "Ma'am?" she inqiures, "What might I be gettin' this wee birdy for?" she asks, indicating the blue and purple one.

Voltaire had always been curious. Curiosity often got the best of him, and sometimes not in a good way. He carried Annjette on his shoulders. Annjette had no particular fear of heights but still she wrapped her tiny arms about her papa's head but since her arms are not very long her hands barely touched fingertips on his forehead. This left the feathers of her arms to brush again'st the side of his head -- especially his ears.
If it tickled the man made no reaction it seemed.
Annjette looked slightly sad, but content. It was as if the girl had come to terms with something a moment or two prior to coming here.
Voltaire had heard there was a Trader and was obviously here to see about what may be available. Mayhap he could find something to cheer Annjette's burdened heart.

XD)) "This one? This is a sea loam banya. Very, very durable. They are rather cryptic with their fortunes, but they sing beautifully, and can fly for extraordinary distances. That's how they get their name- it's said they can fly for so long that they could cross a sea- living only off the loam that skimmed the surface. Seventy couplets."
