Yep...I was looking for a Phantom of the Opera video to put on my profile and I found one that I would never expect existed! Antonio Banderas singing "Phantom of the Opera" with Sarah Brightman at a concert. At first I was wondering if this was going to be any good, but it turns out to be somewhat entertaining. Michael Crawford is still a great Phantom, Antonio would never make the cut...

So here's the link:

There is a little Overture intoduction, but after a couple of minutes is when it actually starts the song. Tell me what you think!

Oh, Antonio tries so hard in this one...

I'm not too fond of this SB moment.

She's too old to sing that song now...

Antonio Banderas carries his accent too much in this song. It just doesn't fit right.

Mm, I liked Antonio singing this, his accent made it that much more seductive to me, but yes, Sarah Brightman is too old to sing it, she was off key in that vid.

That was nothing, you should have seen them sing All I Ask Of You... I CRIED it was so bad. Weird rather... not bad....weird..

Plus Sarah shouldn't straighten her hair.. .it doesn't look good on her.

All I Ask of You was traumatic, but still not as bad as POTO. Banderas makes a better Raoul than an Erik.

Hard to believe Webber actually wanted him to star in the 2004 movie...

I personally wouldn't want to. Antonion Banderas certainly is not suited for either role (though one more than the other I agree). He has a limit on what he can protray, really. Because of his accents and the parts he's had, he normally gets the suave Fabio role. The latter of that might be Raoul (we're talking Musical, so yeah) but not Erik.

Myep. That's why Banderas was performing there. At the time he was the main contender for the role in the movie. But they waited too long, he got caught up in the Zorro sequel, and Schumacher apparently decided on a younger cast.

AIAOY... oh, wait, that wasn't Banderas. That was Michael Ball. xd He's usually better than that.

Banderas did alright with his Evita songs, though. And the song from the now-dead Phantom sequel is pretty cool.

Mmmnope, it was Michael Ball. Same guy who did the Joseph songs. As far as I know, Michael Crawford has never sung AIAOY with Sarah Brightman. He sings it with Dale Kristien on his In Concert album, and she's sung it with a bunch of other guys, but never the two of them together. Again, as far as I know. I don't think Michael was even at ALW's 50th Birthday party.

And the Phantom sequel... yeeeeah... In the mid 90's ALW was planning to write a musical sequel to Phantom loosely based on the Frederick Forsythe novel Phantom of Manhatten. He wrote a few songs for it, namely the one performed at the Royal Albert Hall; The Heart is Slow to Learn. I guess it's supposed to be the Phantom pining for Christine or vice versa or something. Pretty song, but a baaaad idea...
