It had been a while since Alice had taken the time to come down to the caverns to play music. Honestly, it just made her sad most of the time. But today, she was okay with being a little bit sad. After all, it was an important day. An anniversary. Over a decade had passed since she had come back broken. Lost.

Things were getting too complicated. Sorcha....sent someone to kill me... The thought drifts through her mind and she frowns, stopping in place. That thought had no place here.

Kneeling down, she sets her guitar case on the ground, opening it and running her fingers down the strings. It was a beautiful guitar. The dark wood was pristine, the strings standing out against it sharply. Picking it up, she sighs, slinging the strap around her back. Wiggling it into place, she walks a little bit into the crystal caverns, closing her eyes as she strums. Here, she was able to sing without worries. Her magic stayed locked inside of her. Though, at this time, it was dangerously low still. For some reason, she wasn't replenishing as fast. Perhaps it was the poison that person had used the other night. She wasn't sure.

Taking a deep breath, she releases it, then starts playing her guitar. The lyrics come to mind, and she smiles softly. Her fingers move easily on the strings, starting the song. "I don’t care what they call me, I know what I am. Not a hero, never tried, don’t give a damn. But you, you messed me up, pulled me in tight. Now I’m losing sleep, thinking about you every night." Her steps move to the beat, and she continues. "They say I’m dangerous, maybe it’s true. Keep that smile, you’re not walking through" She turns in place, her brown waves drifting around her.

Her fingers move quicker on the strings, playing the melody for a bit before she continues. "So here’s my confession, I’m obsessed with you. Don’t need to dress it up, it’s simple as you. I’d burn the world down if you asked me to. Here’s my confession, I’m hooked on you." Alice dances a bit, the smile drifting across her face. She could feel the magic swirling under her skin, but it was weaker than usual. And the light from the caverns seemed to keep it trapped inside of her.

She mad missed this.

Continuing the next verse, she grins. "Your hero talks big but he don’t got a clue. He couldn’t handle half the things I do. You love the danger. That look in your eyes; baby you want the villain, stop acting so surprised. Let ‘em talk, I got nothing to prove. Go ahead, act cold, I’ll eat you through." She brought her guitar up, turning around on her heel, closing her eyes to sing louder. Alice could just sing louder down here. She could be Serenity down here.

Focusing on the song, she grins. "So here’s my confession, I’m obsessed with you. Don’t need redemption, I don’t need the truth. You’re my only sin, the one thing I choose. Here’s my confession, I can’t lose you." The melody was fun to play, and kept her smiling as she worked through the song. It had been too long. "You could run but we both know you won’t. You could say no but I know you don’t. I’m not asking baby, I’m telling you straight. You’re mine forever, and that’s your fate." Her voice was raspy during this part, and it stirred something inside her. The part that craved touch. Contact. Warmth.

She needed to quit avoiding people who wanted to be close to her.

Her mind drifted over the song, and she continues, her voice clear. "Here’s my confession, I’ll never let go. The darker it gets, the more that we grow. Say my name softer, say it again. This is obsession, it’ll never end....." The guitar stops, and she leans back against one of the pillars, closing her eyes, breathing heavily. She was out of shape. She needed to do this more often. Alice missed feeling things deeply.

Rule number one. Keep your emotions under control. She sinks down to the ground, her legs splayed in front of her. Holding her guitar to her forehead, a small sob escapes, and she just stays there for a while. These caverns were a blessing and a curse. Just like everything else.

Pushing to her feet again, she tries another melody, forcing all of it away from her. She couldn't fall apart from this. Sorcha sent someone to kill me.... Alice sniffs lightly, then sighs.

The melody changes, and she starts singing again. This time just a chorus. "I could love you with my eyes closed. Kiss you with a blindfold. Figure you out. I might hold you with my hands tied. Show you I'm the right guy. To figure you out na-na-na, na, na" That one was always hard. The notes went all over the place. Focusing on the strings, she plays through it once more, then frowns.

Maybe she would need to play something different for now.

All of the songs she was thinking of seemed to have obsession as the focus. A groan escapes and she leans back against a pillar, playing another song. Just letting her fingers move on the strings helped. She missed singing. She missed music.

Rule number one. Keep your emotions under control. She closes her eyes, playing louder somehow. Trying to drown out those thoughts. "Oh no, here comes trouble. Wrapped in silk, sharp as knuckles. She's the type to make you beg. While she's dancing on your neck. Killer looks, she don't miss. Beauty laced with a hitman's kiss. Venom high on cherry lips. Say your prayers, she's apocalypse. Pretty hurts, but this one burns. Touch her once, you'll never learn. She's a flame you wanna feel. So hot it kills, yeah, she kills" That one reminded her of Thomas.

One of the strings breaks under her fingers, and she pauses, looking down at the guitar, her eyes wide. Thomas. That was a person she never thought she could think about again. Sighing, she takes her guitar off, setting it back in the case. Maybe music had been a bad idea.

The memories and feelings were overwhelming. Sitting down beside her case, she pulls her legs up to her chest. Tugging her sweater a bit more up her shoulder, she lets loose a sigh, resting her cheek against her knees. Brown waves fall around her, hiding her face from view for a moment. Back then, she had so many dreams. Thomas had encouraged her to play music. And she had thought herself under control. She thought she had done enough with Rain to know her limits.

When the Lich had attacked, she remembered the panic. The fire that flew through her veins. The shattering around her as the city was leveled around her. The Fetch's laughter. The eyeball melting in the socket that haunted her for months upon months after. The scars he left on her face and her back, reminding her every day. "Thomas wouldn't have died....if it wasn't for me...."

Everyone thought Luke went missing looking for her.

But the truth was that his disappearance was completely unrelated. He had never come for her. And Alice still didn't know if he was dead or alive. He was just missing. He was just gone. The only person who the Fetch had taken was her. Thomas had been buried in the wreckage of her hubris on that stage.
