Sometime later, things had become a lot more...stable? At least as far as how they each felt about one another and what the change meant for their friendship and such. Abby was slowly but surely getting more comfortable with a more intimate relationship (though they hadn't gone that far, and that was fine) and as far as Cliff was concerned, she was still one of his best friends and not much had changed in that regard.

Except they cuddled and kissed and were the occasional annoying couple with irritatingly adorable displays of affection.

The thought made him smile, a very pleasant albeit increasingly brief respite from the coach's ramblings. A clap on the back had him snap back to the present, and he nodded in thanks at the friend that had saved him from the hassle of explaining to the coach and the rest of the team why he wasn't paying any attention to what was being said. The man eventually finished, of course, and that meant he was that much closer to seeing Abby that night for homework and possibly another movie if they finished early.

Jogging up to the side of the field, he grabbed his water bottle and glanced around in hopes of seeing her in the crowd somewhere, preferably not surrounded by his teammates who refused to believe that they were together.

These last few weeks had been strange for Abby. It was like learning a whole new side of Cliff, no longer just a boy who was a friend but to Boyfriend. Someone who she had those thoughts about, someone who she wanted to have those thoughts about. It was still strange for her to see him coming towards her and her heart skips just a little, her stomach fluttering with nerves. But she was getting used to it. She was getting used to the sweet texts he sent her, the movie nights that have them snuggling on the couch, the kisses, and all the ways their relationship had now changed.

“Abby...Abby...yo Abby!” A voice practically shouted in her ear making her jump slightly. Abby glanced over at the young lady from her class. “Your boytoy is looking for you.” The blonde laughed at the look on Abby's face was priceless. It was a mix of surprise and guilt. “Jace stuff it.” Abby shot her a look before focusing back on the field where Cliff was eyeing the bleachers. The warm fuzzies coursed through her system as their eyes locked and Abby couldn't help but smile. She gave him a small wave, before shooing him back to the field. The sooner he was done the sooner they could go back and work on homework together.

Quote:
Their eyes eventually locked and his expression brightened significantly as he returned the wave, then took the cue and hurried back to the locker room for a quick shower. He was out after another 15 minutes, and with his bag slung over his shoulder and soccer ball tucked underneath his arm he jogged over to her and greeted her with a quick kiss to the cheek. It was only then that he noticed that she had a friend there, and he greeted her with a smile.

"Hi," he said first to the friend whose name escaped him, then he turned to Abby and his smile changed ever so subtly to the sort that he only ever gave her.

"We still on for that study date?" he asked, a hand instinctively reaching out for hers. He couldn't help it, really; even after three weeks everything still felt so...new and fresh and…good. It still gave him the fuzzies, too. "My professors buried me in homework, so I'm hoping to get through most of it tonight."

Abby went back to reading her text book knowing by now he would be a little bit to get ‘freshened up’, with the mountain of homework she had every spare minute was useful. She hadn’t gotten far when Cliff came out of the locker rooms carrying his bag and the ever present soccer ball. She returned his kiss, was tempted to one up him with one to the mouth but was well aware of the audience they still had. The most annoying member sitting right behind her. With a mental sigh Abby slipped her book into her bag and finished getting her stuff ready.

“Hey stud muffin,” Jace greeted Cliff with a lascivious wink and kissy face, ignoring the glare Abby tossed at her. The blond was just ******** with the ebony princess, she had her own boy toy on the team, it probably wasn’t a good idea but it was worth it. Especially when she saw the smile Cliff give Abby and the smile the ‘princess’ gave back to him. It was just too sickly sweet.

Abby ignored Jace’s antics, short of decking the twit there was nothing that Abby could do and she wasn’t going to resort to violence, even if the blonde tested her resolve…. especially when the blonde opened her mouth again and said sarcastically, “Study date. Suuuurrre it is. I know what I would be studying and it sure as hell wouldn't be homework. I would love to be buried in homework and to have someone go through me...” Her innuendos were cut off when Abby ‘accidentally’ smacked her in the side with her bag. “HEY! Watch it Abigail!"

“Terribly sorry about that Jaclyn, however if you had been paying attention you might have seen me getting up and might have noticed me putting on my bag. I do appreciate you keeping me company but if you’ll excuse me I have to go now. And it looks like you will be going soon as well since I believe that is your boyfriend approaching now.” Her voice was clipped and tight, a tinge of her British accent leaking through her polite tone. Abby nodded towards the locker rooms where one of the other team members was on his way over, rather than stick around anymore the young woman grabbed Cliff by the hand and began to walk away… well more stalked away if her speed was any indication.

Once they were far enough away Abby drastically slowed down, to the point that they were barely strolling across campus. She shook her head and offered a quiet apology, “sorry about that. Ever since I ended up correcting her in front of the whole class she seems to like to try to rile me up. She is just so… so… crude.”

Cliff would have stepped in to calm things down--it wasn't the first time he'd seen Abby annoyed but it was the first time he didn't know why she was annoyed to begin with--but before he knew it Abby was dragging him away from the entire scene. He barely even had any time to wave a short goodbye to his teammate that had bounded over and a few more that they passed along the way. It wasn't until they slowed down and she explained the situation did it sort of click in his head, and he gave her hand a reassuring squeeze before pulling her close enough that he could wrap his arm around her waist.

"Freddy mentioned sensing tension between you guys before and I said I didn't see any. I see it now, so that conversation makes a little more sense," he said with a soft smile. "I'm sorry, Abs. Some people are just...like that, I guess." With a sigh, mostly because he wished he had something more helpful to say, he leaned toward her and gave her a quick kiss to the temple.

"Any way I can help?"

Quote:
Abby leaned into Cliff with a sigh when his arm wrapped around her waist, doing her best to shake off her annoyance. Getting peeved was just what Jace wanted, there was nothing Abby could do about it so why fuss over it. She smiled softly at his kiss and his offer of help but she shook her head no. “She will get over it. Eventually. It's just bothersome, besides she is right on one point,” Abby glanced up at him, her arm slipping around his waist much in the same way his was around her, “you are a ‘stud muffin’.”

She leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Now,” Abby changed the subject with a decisive nod of her head, “what classes do you have to get done tonight? Me, it's mostly reading and note taking for the papers I'm working on. And my Chinese worksheets, which make me feel like I'm back in grade school… Trace the character, trace the dotted line, write the character unassisted several times in a row. Tedious but relatively easy.” The night was warm and a breeze fluttering the edge of her sundress. They were walking side-by-side, their hands practically in each other's pockets… If her dress even had pockets… And Abby was ok with it, more than ok actually. She was happy with it. They were dating and they were making it work. It was almost laughable now that Abby worried so much about it not too long ago. God how things really could change. With their body heat mingling in the warm April night a much steamer thought flashed in Abby's mind; the mental image of Cliff in only a towel, fresh from the shower, and smelling of pure Cliff. Was their relationship stable enough to handle them mingling something more than just heat and spit? Abby blinked rapidly as she felt her heart skip for a moment at the thought, her face feeling like it was burning, as she focused on their walk thing to avoid glancing at Cliff’s eyes on the off chance he would be able to read her carnal thoughts.

Quote:
"I am a stud muffin," he returned with a grin; he was obviously joking, but he liked it when she complimented him. Even if she did use someone else's words in this case.

With a subject change came a chuckle, but he didn't protest. Instead, Cliff nodded along and gave his answer a bit of thought. "Two chapters worth of problems for my math class, notes for a few papers due at the end of the week, research for papers due in two days, and if I can squeeze in a little bit of study time for a quiz tomorrow maybe that, too." He paused to sigh, "Guess it was hoping for too much to think we'd have time for a movie after the homework."

He groaned like a little kid then, a pouty sort of frown on his lips as it dawned on him that there really wasn't enough time to do anything more fun that night. Movies usually meant making out, and in his mind there was always a chance that they could go even further than just that. She'd been getting more and more comfortable with the fact that they were dating now, after all, and she didn't seem to have any trouble being more affectionate with him either, so in his mind that meant there was always a chance of them going further. But sometimes, sometimes, his hands just got ahead of him.

Like right that instant, as she was leaning into him, his hand had slipped slightly down from her waist to more rest on her hip as they continued their walk.

His dorm wasn't that much further, and soon enough they had arrived and he nodded at the coffee table. "I'll grab us some drinks, why don't you get settled in?"

Quote:
Abby just shook her head at him sadly, “Homework first then movies. That's what happens when you cram most of your classes into one day rather than spreading them out. It also helps if you toss in an easy class, still covers the required credits, but it lets you focus on the harder ones.” That was the main difference between the grades. The older students learned to pace themselves… or at least try, unless they were gluttons for punishment. “I’ll help you with your papers but you're on your own for the math.” Abby despised math and always had, especially since moving to the States ten years ago and having to go from metric to standard. It took her forever to get used to the way the dates were written.

The rest of their walk was done in silence. Unlike the first few days where the quiet was strained, the current silence was comfortable, the sounds of the campus adding background noise. She didn't even react when Cliff’s hand wandered from her waist to her hip but she was well aware of it. The warmth of his palm soaking through her dress made her really wish that he didn't have so much homework. There was always the weekend as long as they didn't have more pressing matters to deal with by the time Saturday rolled around, like any late night activities.

Once in his dorm she pulled off her bag and placed it by the coffee table. “Alright. I won't even take up the whole table either, well probably not.” She shot him a cheeky, teasing smile as she fished out her Chinese booklet and paperwork. She might as well get the easy stuff done with first.

Cliff grabbed a couple of waters and readied two bowls, one of chips and the other trail mix, before heading back to the table, sneaking in a kiss to her cheek as he passed by and set everything down. "Good," he said as he took a seat, starting to fish out his laptop first to make sure he had room to set it down before grabbing his math book and two small notebooks, one for his math homework and another for scribbling into when he needed to. "'Cause snacks are gonna take up some space, too." With a grin he powered on the computer, and as soon as it was loaded he pulled up the program he used as an organizer as reference for what homework he had to work on.

Math first, of course, since it was due the next day. The professor was some kind of psychopath, he was slowly learning, as he had 30 problems to do that night. Now, that may not sound like much, but considering how complicated the questions seemed to be and how long it took him to answer just one of them...it was a lot. The prospect of movies was slowly but surely dwindling as he started to tackle the first problem, and by the time he got to the eighth one he fizzled out and had to lie back with a quiet, suffering groan.

"Abs, help me with my classes for next year? That way my schedule and homework load every other day isn't murder?" he said, turning to and looking up at her with his fiery red eyes set into a puppy dog sort of expression. "Please?"

Quote:
Abby looked up from her own reading. She had finished her worksheets and had moved onto her next class. She couldn't help but laugh at his antics, “poor baby.”

She leaned over until she was hovering over him, looking him in the eyes. “Of course I'll help you with the classes next year. For tonight however, take a break from the math and shift to something else for a bit.” She leaned down and gave him a gentle kiss. It was only meant to be a sweet and relatively quick kiss but it slowly deepened as she leaned into him, lost in the taste of him, in the pleasure that was slowly circling through her.

Quote:
The brunette gave a weak smile as thanks, eyes meeting hers as she hovered just above him. When she suggested he shift his attention he gave a slight shrug, "Maybe…" he started to say, though was glad to stop when she moved to give him a kiss. He expected it to be brief because unlike other couples, when they said they would get homework done they really got homework done, but this time she lingered and the kiss gradually deepened.

Cliff slowly sat up, his body naturally moving toward her to close whatever distance there had been while they were working. His hands slipped down to her waist and he helped her straddle him while he leaned against the sofa, his only focus at which point became her. His senses had gone into overdrive and he, as well, got lost in her. In the moment. Homework, by now, was the last thing on his mind.

Quote:
Abby shifted with him, keeping her lips on his, her legs ended up straddling him as he leaned against the couch. Her heart was starting to race as her tongue flicked out, teasing the edge of his lips. She rocked against him slightly as her fingers buried in his hair.

With an annoyed huff she nipped at his bottom lip and shifted back slightly. She sat back some, her a** in his lap as her mind warred with her body. Abby sighed, and leaned even further back, “we have homework.” She shifted back in and kissed him again, “math,” she muttered against him, rocking slightly, “English. Cliff…” Abby was losing it, if they had to stop he might have to stop it. Jace might have fanned the flames of her thoughts but every time they had kissed, every time they had sat on the very couch Cliff was leaning against and started to make out, that little ember of desire grew a little brighter.

Quote:
Cliff felt his own pulse rising the longer their lips remained locked, the more their bodies pressed together, and especially so when she teased him ever so briefly before pulling back. He sighed as she began to lean away from him, his hands staying at her waist to keep her from getting any further, and at the mention of homework he groaned, though a sigh of relief escaped him when she kissed him again. And again…

"Mm, we've got time for homework later…" he eventually managed to get out between kisses. His hands in the meantime had started to wander, with one running up and down the side of her leg while the other had found the small of her back, subtly pulling her even closer so there were no longer any gaps between their bodies. If she expected him to be the one to put a stop to this, she might be pleasantly mistaken.

Though if he were to be totally honest, before he fell into the moment again he did briefly wonder what he would do if he bombed his math class because of things like this.
