Senka was looking forward to the cooler weather; she detested the heat. It made her feel sluggish, slow and cranky. She didn't mind being outside in the early hours of the summer but once it was afternoon she had all her chores done for the day and was back inside or she became agitated! The heat didn't work with her since she was so dark in coloring, it was as if her skin trapped in the heat and humidity of the weather which in turn made her miserable.
The weather she had assumed would be coming was to be cooler in the coming weeks which it had for a short time, then she woke up one day and it was blazing outside. It was so humid you could see the steam coming off the ground in a haze and it was disorientating to her. She opened the door and the heat blasted her in the muzzle, and she coughed before quickly shutting the door.
She had been planning a trip to visit family which would take about a month and half to complete. Her plans including leaving in 1 week time but if this weather holds true those plans will have to be cancelled or rescheduled which didn't make her happy at all.
She deliberately chose the time frame she did for the cooler weather to travel, downside required more supplies but upside no heat and humidity to slow her down. She functioned better in the cool and colder weather anyway. It was invigorating to her and she reveled in it.
The supplies she purchased she can still use most of it on the journey even with the setback in start time. Some of the food will have to be eaten and restocked before leaving but everything else will hold. Sighing she set about making a list of what she had, what needed to be rotated out and used, what needed to be replaced and what would hold until the journey began.
She was frustrated and couldn't concentrate. She got up and began to pace one end of her home to the other. Her hooves hit the floor with a loud thud with each step.
Her mind was a whirlwind of different thoughts. So much preparation had went into this journey and now it was to be delayed. Which will cost her time, supplies, coinage and agitation! The more she thought the angrier she became so she grabbed a book and plopped down in a comfortable spot to read. Reading was her go to when she was upset, agitated, bored or just plain being mean. It calmed her mind, which in turn her whole body relaxed, and she began to breathe normally. She became immersed in the world of the book she was reading. It took her a few moments, but she was able to relax and melt into the book allowing her worries to disappear.
A few hours later she looked up and noticed the sun was beginning to lower which meant the night was coming and hopefully cooler weather. She stood up, stretched and opened the door. Inhaling the scent that hung on the air which was a flowery scent she felt rejuvenated. The hot weather was cooler although the air was still a bit humid it was tolerable to her.
With a relaxed mind she decided to tackle her to do list. She needed to make sure of her supplies, the weather forecasts, and make sure if she set out later than what she felt was the safe timeframe if the journey would be worth the trip.
She made a list of questions, list of supplies, list of those she needed to speak to and lastly a list of things she needs to consider for this upcoming journey.
Feeling hungry she decided to stop working on her plans for the upcoming journey and instead focus on making her some food and drink.
She decided to use some of the perishable food she had set aside for the journey to use them up and would be somewhat easy in replacing in a week or two's time.
As she set about the movements in her kitchen she felt more at ease. The familiar movements made her feel better. Each step more of her tension released and a small smile appeared on her face. She knew her emotions got the better of her usually, but she was trying to work on that. Sometimes no matter how hard she tried her emotions always won.
About a half hour later the food was hot, drink was made and she was relaxed and ready to eat. Her mind did wander a bit but she forced it to return to the task at hand which was eating.
The soup was very filling; the bread was crunchy and sweet just the way she likes it. Once done eating she cleaned up the dishes and kitchen before retreating to window near the door. She had a chair there and liked to look out and think which was her intent now.
The weather hasn't beaten me yet! she muttered out loud.
