The weather is turning but mother nature has one last hurrah in store - it seems she has mustered up a blizzard that's blown down from the mountains and over the majority of the Kawani lands. This is highly unusual for this time of year, it seems winter was not ready to let go! How does your soquili fair in this blizzard? Do they see the signs early and manage to avoid it completely? Do they seek shelter in time and wait it out? Do they find themselves stranded and in danger? Do they fend for themselves or do they help others around them?
The wind whipped her hair around as she stood close to the thinnest tree she could find. Alaska shivered against the wind that drew memories from her past from places she had forgotten. It was cold then too, but she was smaller. Smaller and more fragile, she had grown into a strong mare after fleeing the north. "You won't get me again, so blow you old wind, blow!" Alaska shivered, face turning away from the biting snow that flowed along the wind. "I am stronger than I was then. I can withstand everything that you throw at me."
Who was she kidding? She was freezing and her legs were starting to go numb. This blizzard was feeling worse than her past. Leaning even harder against the tree, or what she thought was a tree, Alaska shook her head, wishing that she hadn't wandered so far from better shelter. She didn't want to freeze alone...
The soft crunch of snow drifted along the wind as black paws waded through the drifts. The bear pelted shifter was favoring the blizzard, her pelt was keeping her warm for the most part. It would have been easier in bear form, but something told her that being larger was going to be needed. She wasn't sure what it was, mother's intuition she supposed. Stopping as a harsh wind rustled her fur, Big Mama shook the flakes from her pelt. "Who in their right mind would be out in weather like this?" she questioned before spotting a blotch of familiar blue in the distance. "Of course."
There was no humor to her comment as she moved closer to the blue and Alaska's shivering form became clearer. "Now didn't you learn from the first blizzard you nearly died in?" Big Mama commented as she reached Alaska and wrapped a wind over her back and pressed the freezing mare to her. "Even now you make those small mistakes. Now where is your shelter?"
Alaska's ears perked up as the sounds of someone approaching reached them. The familiar fluff of feathers that wrapped over her shoulders made her lean into the warmth. "I didn't think it would get this bad. I had found shelter... But I got lost as my landmarks are hidden."
"You call this scrawny sapling a shelter?" Big Mama said looking at the "tree" that Alaska had been leaning against. "Come on, Lets go to my shelter." Big Mama said as she turned back towards the way she had come, Alaska following the movement.
"It seemed well enough at the start... But then the wind grew stronger and the snow added their two bits in." Alaska explained, this made the shifter shaker her head as they walked through the wind driven snow.
It wasn't too far to the cave Big Mama had found when the storm started. It was here she had watched the flakes drift and slowly pick up. The wind howled past the stones that lined one side of the cave as Big Mama guided Alaska inside. It was here Alaska could relax a little as just that was enough.
"And that worked out for you so well the first time. Now you will stay here until the end of this storm." Big Mama commented as she pulled away from Alaska and over towards the more comfortable spot in the cave away from the exit. "Now come over here and warm up. You're still shivering."
Alaska shook her head before following Big Mama's voice to lay beside the shifter. With Big Mama laying a wing over her once more, Alaska chose to fall asleep, knowing that she would be safe... Again.
