Ziuhoi didn't exactly have much free time, so it had seemed prudent to reach out to Shulang--Shulang, that was Dunhnottar's real name, and he had been no less handsome under the magical glamor (maybe even more handsome, because the magic made Dunnottar feel sort of untouchable, but Shulang was real)--after a day or so to process having about sixty different revelations about the state of the universe dropped on him.
Privacy had seemed paramount, and honestly, given that Shulang had saved his life twice, Ziuhoi felt that it was probably pretty safe to invite him to his apartment. The building was modest, but did have keyed entry, so he'd waited down by the door for Shulang's text to let him in and then bring him down the hall and to his place.
"It's a little messy," Ziuhoi said, "but we can sit at the table and talk, and nobody's going to interrupt us." Shulang was just going to have to tolerate some strewn jackets and a dirty dish or two, but Ziuhoi had at least cleaned up the worst of the evidence that he was a man who lived alone and had a four-days-on-three-days-off sort of schedule.

Shulang had admittedly been a little nervous about giving a very cute boy (********, boys, he was into boys, he still was a little ******** up about that, honestly, after everything he'd ever been through in his life) his phone number. Both because cute boy and also because, even though Ziuhoi had clearly never interacted with magic before and had been attacked by a Negaverse Lieutenant, part of him was still apprehensive about the possibility of exposing his identity to the wrong person, who might just be trying to trap him and force-corrupt him. He didn't think that was the case here, though, but paranoia had the idea sitting in the back of his brain anyway. "I can handle messy," he said with an awkward smile as he came into the apartment. It didn't even look that bad. Just... lived in. That was the way Shulang preferred a space to be, anyway. A little mess, like someone was actively living there and using stuff daily, made a place feel like a home. Everything neat and tidy and put away and we can't let people know we eat or sit on the couch gave him hives. "Are there any questions you'd like to start with?" he asked, taking his seat at the table.

Ziuhoi locked the door behind them, but dropped the keys in the little bowl right by it, prominent and available. He'd noticed Shulang seemed nervous, and while he wasn't exactly about leaving his door unlocked when who knew what some dumb neighbor kid might do, it still felt right to maker sure the exits were clear. Habit had him taking off his shoes, and then leading Shulang to the crappy little table he usually ate at.
"Oh, good, I bring a lot of mess," he said, in a way that was only half a joke. Still, this wasn't, as much as he wished, entirely a casual situation.
He had been given the chance to learn about magic.
"I barely know where to begin," he admitted. "You mentioned I could become magical--is that just a thing that happens to people, or what?"

Shulang turned back and kicked his own shoes off when he realized Ziuhoi did so, then came back to the table. "Hah. Well, you wouldn't be the only one," he replied, thinking of Shuangxu. "Mn. Yeah. Pretty much. Used to be only if you had the right starseed—had a magical past life. I heard something about descendants getting chosen, but that seemed... very rare. Nowadays, though, something big happened, and random people seem to get assigned a new magic to do with the Moon." He paused. "Okay. Let me start over. I'm a Knight. I serve The Code, capital letters. It's a metaphysical and physical being with pieces of itself scattered throughout the known universe on various planets, asteroids, and other celestial bodies. The Code is what selects a Knight to serve it, but the magic a Knight has is rooted in the planet that their Code piece is on. Knights of Neptune have watery magic and they're dressed in blues and greens, Knights of Lysithea—me—very bright, frilly, and magic seems to be themed around unicorns and what they represent, because that's what the Senshi of Lysithea is... the Senshi of Unicorns. But we're not beholden to these Senshi. Which is good, given that none of the Senshi for the main nine planets in our solar system have shown up since everyone died about a thousand years ago. With me so far?"

Ziuhoi was not sure he was entirely following, but maybe that made sense. Being magical--it seemed like there was a sort of destiny aspect involved, which seemed more than a little unfair, but then, plenty of things in life were at least a little unfair.
Still, the concept of it all was....incredible. Magic powers granted by extraplanetary beings that gave you the...well, power to protect people.
Yeah, a part of Ziuhoi's heart longed for that to be something he could have.
"I think I follow," he said. "So the Senshi are tied to their planet, then, and theri magic comes from it? Since you're not beholden to them, but your magic still mirrors theirs?" It seemed like the neatest explanation, though Ziuhoi supposed he only had a quarter of the picture and was trying to fit pieces into a whole.

Shulang nodded. "I think the Code's affected by the place its on, but I'm not entirely sure," he admitted. "It would only make sense, though." He rolled his shoulders, trying to keep himself relaxed. "Senshi are focused on protecting the planet that gives them the magic to do it, while Knights are focused on protecting the Wonder where the Code Piece is. A lot of Wonders are reflected on Earth in some way—not really sure why. Earth seems... to have been a really, really important place, way back when. But anyway, my Code Piece is literally in Castle Dunnottar, but a version of it that's on Lysithea, rather than Earth. All of us can go visit the places that we are designated to protect." He smiled a little then, hoping Ziuhoi would ask to visit Dunnottar. Though... he would probably have to visit there on his own first and see what it was like. s**t. "I know it's a lot to take in, but... maybe the Code will reach out to you and choose you," he mused. "I don't know. None of us really knows how this works in its entirety. But... it would be nice if you turned up as a Page. I mean, that's how you start out. Page, Squire, Knight. I'm a Knight of Lysithea, but at the moment, my magic is only at the level of a Squire."

Ziuhoi leaned forward, taking it all in. There was so much to learn, so much to understand.
He wondered, if he were to become a Knight like Shulang, what he would end up protecting. If he was even the kind of person who could do that. (If he could be, given everything he had going on in his life.)
Would he be a healer then, too? The way he always seemed to find himself? He couldn't help but wonder, and he couldn't help but like the idea, a little. Sure, he'd b***h the entire time, but he did like helping people.
"I kinda hope so, too," he said. "I'd like to not need saving quite so often, hah." He leaned his cheek on his hand, looking thoughtful.
"Can I pick your brain about some of the specifics? Feel free to tell me if you just don't have an answer."
But Ziuhoi had a million questions, and he'd ask them as long as Dunnottar was willing to answer.
