A centaur is a magical creature whose head, torso and arms appear to be human and are joined to a horse's body. However, they are their own species, and are not any kind of half-breed. Despite being highly intelligent, centaurs are classified as Beasts by the Ministry of Magic, at their own request, as they were unhappy at having to share Being status with hags and vampires.

Centaur Rules

+ Must try to keep witches and wizards away from the dangers of the Forest
+ Cannot harm other characters without their permission
+ Has own territory
+ Creatures that are not a part of the herd are considered trespassing on the herd's territory

A giant is a very large humanoid which can potentially grow to approximately twenty five feet tall and appear to be a large human. Some may appear as large and hairy humanoids, while others resemble humongous-sized people, and some may even have bestial features (i.e. protuding sharp molars). A powerful and nearly unstoppable race, giants generally aggregate themselves in tribes since their numbers have greatly dwindled in recent centuries. A giant tribe is led by the strongest giant, known as the Gurg.

+ Can be taught to speak or read a human language
+ Find magic fascinating, but are incapable of using it personally
+ Pride themselves on their size and strength; the larger and stronger they are, the more respected

+ Fighting with one another for space, food, or for the sake of fighting is common
+ Typically members of a group, complete with a leader, the Gurg
+ The Gurg is generally the strongest (and usually largest) Giant in a group

The Leprechaun, sometimes known as the Clauricorn, is a mischievous magical creature, although it is not malicious. They have a reputation as pranksters, but have never inflicted lasting damage on a Human. Native only to Ireland, they are fully sentient and capable of speech but have never requested the Ministry of Magic to reclassify them as Beings. Green in colour, the Leprechaun reaches a height of around six inches, and normally wear clothing made out of leaves. Leprechauns main diet consists of vegetation, primarily leaves.

Leprechauns live in forests and wooded areas, and they enjoy attracting Muggle attention to themselves.

+ Interacting with characters should be limited, but not disallowed

Portraits are paintings made of certain individuals, namely witches and warlocks.

The subject of a magical portrait is sentient due to enchantments placed on the portrait by the painter. The portrait will be able to use some of the subject's favorite phrases and imitate their general demeanor based on how the subject appears to the painter; however, they are limited in what they can say or do.

A portrait can also move from portrait to portrait, or else visit a portrait of them elsewhere in the world.

A portrait knows little if anything of its subject's life, and therefore could not hold a very interesting conversation about its subject. The exception to this is of the portraits of Hogwarts headmasters, which are kept in a cupboard from the time of their painting, which is usually very old, until the subject dies. The headmaster can therefore teach their portrait to act and speak like them so that they can teach their successors.

The person depicted in a portrait can therefore live indefinitely, although a portrait does have reason to fear for their life or well-being.

+ If the subject of a portrait is away when their canvas is damaged, they must remain away until it is restored.

Famous Hogwarts Portraits

You are welcome and encouraged to create your own original characters. But, why get rid of the old, historic portraits that are still there? These ghosts are available to take (taken ones have been striked out):

The Fat Lady: A portrait, who guards the entrance to Gryffindor Tower at Hogwarts Castle. She asks for passwords before she lets anyone in, then swings her picture backward so that students could enter through a portrait hole. Little is known about her early life or what her name was when she was alive. She presumably was educated at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Gryffindor house. She was well known for her indulgence in good food and drink, as well as a passion for "tip-top security", traits that her portrait would later possess.

Sir Cadogan: was a believed Knight of the Round Table included in wizarding versions of the tales of King Arthur. He is most famous for his defeat of the Wyvern of Wye at great personal risk. Sometime after his death, he was immortalized with a portrait on the seventh floor of Hogwarts Castle, which displayed the same "insane bravery" as Cadogan did in life. Elizabeth Burke: was a witch. She had portraits hung at Hogwarts Castle, depicting her as a dark-dressed witch in a ruff and sporting a very pointed hat. She appears to be a pure-blood witch, seeing as she tells Slytherin students to be "nasty to Mudbloods."

Google Stump: was a shy and stuttering wizard. He had some portraits of himself hung in Hogwarts Castle. In 1994 one of them hung in the Tapestry Corridor and by 1995, a portrait was in the Viaduct Entrance. Stump's portrait guarded a secret passage from there to the first floor corridor. No one had told him the password. When confronted by Harry Potter, who asked if he was really doing his job if no one used his shortcut, the portrait told the student the password. The password, Volo futurus unus, meaning in Latin "I want to be alone", brings out the shyness of the wizard. Later in the school year, he directed Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger to the portrait of Giffard Abbott to obtain the password to access the shortcut behind Percival Pratt's portrait.

Percival Pratt: Percival Pratt was a wizard poet. He has a portrait hung in Hogwarts Castle's Grand Staircase. He is portrayed as a man in a red robe, writing on his desk, with a starry sky and a full moon behind him. He is often heard saying rhymes and riddles to students who walk by. He often encourages students to " take time every day to rhyme what [they] say ." Up until 1996, Mr. Pratt's portrait guarded a shortcut between the Grand Staircase and the Boathouse. The password of this shortcut was "This password is absurd".

Timothy the Timid: Timothy the Timid is a very shy wizard with a mustache and very sparse hair. Very shy, he was afraid of many things and disliked people (and other portraits), who stared at him, becoming paranoid with time.

Violet: A witch in a painting at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her portrait hangs in a small chamber off of the Great Hall. Because of this, she witnessed when Harry Potter and the other Triwizard Tournament participants were given the information about the tournament. She is friends with the Fat Lady and is known to go to her painting as well as going other places to find things to gossip about. Violet and the Fat Lady are known to drink too much on special occasions such as Christmas. She also gave Bill Weasley a wink during the Triwizard Tournament.

Wood Nymphs are beautiful creatures, ranging in size from about that of a pixie to dwarven, and are able to speak and to sing, and they are apparently happy to interact with wizards and indeed do as they are told. According to Fleur Delacour, they are used amongst the Christmas decorations at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, where they sing to the students.
