Name: Gail Marie Ruth Beck

Nickname: n/a

Gender/Pronoun: cis female, she/her/hers

Age: 71

Birthday: 03/17/1954

Sign: Pisces

Gemstone: emerald

Blood Type: A+

Fav. Food: caramel flan

Hated Food: broccoli

School/Occupation: diocesan Sister based out of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, a large residential Catholic church in downtown Destiny city

Hobbies:

Cartooning -- Sister Gail has had a love of drawing nearly as long as she can remember, and of using it for humour on top of that. She has a regular strip syndicated in a handful of Catholic magazines and newspapers, plus online. The topics are generally related to Catholicism through her life as a nun, with a smattering of “everyday” to, in her words, remind people that nuns and priests are people, too.

Shop Class -- Sister Gail is very hands-on and likes knowing how to fix her own clothes, mend her own fence, and even how to crawl under a car and change her own starter. She attends classes at the local community college whenever a new topic catches her eye, and she takes it back to the church to share what she learned and help make sure things stay in working order for the others also living there.

Soapmaking -- she makes and sells gorgeous scented decorative soaps, the proceeds helping to support herself and the others at the church. She also makes more basic soap bars that get packaged with the care bundles that the church’s soup kitchen offers for free to people who need hygiene products. The process is very quiet and soothing for her.

Virtues:

Pillar of Support -- Sister Gail is a shoulder to lean on and will offer whatever advice she thinks is needed. She can be called on even at inconvenient times of night and, if she’s been impatient with someone, she’s made sure they’ve never known it. It’s important to her that other people know they can come to her. Years of experience have generally taught her how to navigate people who are stubborn or who don’t want her advice, which is to gracefully bow out but let them know that she is always still available to be a listening ear if they change their mind. She leans on her own community when needing her own support, such as her fellow Sisters and trusted priests, and is an avid reader of Scripture.

Temperate -- Mild-mannered doesn’t begin to describe her. She is seemingly unflappable and will listen to even the most debauched weekend tale with a straight face and not a hint of redness. Hard to offend and harder still to unbalance, she’ll just chuckle and say that you see a lot in seventy years, especially when scandalizing a nun is a pastime for some people. She is slow to anger or grief or any kind of emotional extreme and tends to remain exceptionally levelheaded.

Hopeful -- Sister Gail takes her avid reading of Scripture and turns it into a guidebook for herself. This feeds into and is often the source for much of the rest of her personality and where she draws a lot of her strength. She truly and deeply believes that, through her faith, anything is possible. This makes her positive and confident and gives her an optimistic outlook on life that is hard to shake. She can easily see ways for situations might work out for the best, even when it might be difficult.

Flaws:

Idealistic -- She chooses to see the best in people, in a situation, even in out-and-out problems. She refuses to give up on people and in situations where perhaps she should have, and she has certainly been taken advantage of. She has also been accused of being impractical before, when sharing her ideas for a new project or community resource. Choosing to believe her naysayers are just misguided or busy or a hundred other excuses, Sister Gail will keep at something until outright told to stop. At this point, even her unflappability gives way to embarrassment and a kind word or two from a friend wouldn’t hurt.

Reticent -- It may be hard to believe, but Sister Gail shares her inner world with only a precious very few, maybe even only one or two depending on the topic. She has secrets that are between only her and God, and that is how they’ll stay. It has happened before that someone has realised they don’t really know her much past the surface level, just for this person to try and pry to satisfy their curiosity. Or worse, accuse her of a sin for being, in her eyes, just a very private person. It took a considerable amount of time for her to find a comfortable niche among the others, and her current church was not her first one.

Skeptical -- Surprising, given her idealism, but Sister Gail does not believe everything told her. Quite the skeptic, she in fact can occasionally break her unflappability to flatly and firmly dismiss the words of someone standing before her. She arrived at her faith through a lot of hard work, and she takes a dim view of anyone or anything that challenges it, even if they have good intentions. She does not debate other people, preferring to take what she’s been told back to her room to chew on and poke holes in at her leisure. This might lead to her capitulating, but just as often leads to her digging in her heels.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: round, icy blue

Hair: it used to be blonde, but now it’s white. She wears it braided down her back with a cloth covering

Face: oval, with high cheekbones and a firm jaw

Skin Tone: fair, with a smattering of freckles on her nose and an age spot at her left temple

Body Type: slender, though with the weight distribution expected of a post-menopausal 70-year-old. She keeps as active as she can and has light muscle tone to prove it.

Clothes: Modest, full coverage from her neck to her wrists and ankles, with a hair-covering. When not in her formal habit, she wears loose maxi skirts with long cardigans. She wears athletic pants under her skirts if she needs to do anything particularly risky. Jewelry is minimal, but she does wear it. She never wears makeup beyond the indulgence of a scented lip gloss. She likes patterns and will keep up with what’s fashionable as far as mixing them, but she’s careful never to dress too loudly. Due to an old injury, she walks with a cane, and she has a drawer dedicated to fun cane socks.

Weapon & Magic

Page Weapon: a child’s parasol, lacy and delicate

Squire: a reinforced adult parasol, still lacy but less delicate

When Maat channels her magic, a shower of sparkles and lights bursts forward, bathing the immediate area (15-foot radius) in warm, soft light akin to dappled sunlight. Any enemies in the light will see non-tangible illusions of whatever they find most beautiful to them, whether that be an item of clothing, riches, or another person or people. If an enemy tries to touch the object of their affection, they will feel a startling jolt, akin to a firm whack to their funny-bone with associated tingling and brief numbness (with the potential for lasting damage at player discretion). The object of their affection will laugh and fade away. She can channel this magic for up to 45 seconds.

Knight Weapon: a reinforced but striking battle umbrella, edged in a dull blade and outfitted with a dulled spear tip in the center

Maat’s magic deploys when she presses a button on the umbrella’s handle to deploy the canopy. A shower of sparkles and lights bursts forward, bathing the immediate area (20-foot radius) in warm, soft light akin to dappled sunlight. Any enemies in the light will see non-tangible illusions of whatever they find most beautiful to them, whether that be an item of clothing, riches, or another person or people. If an enemy tries to touch the object of their affection, they will feel a strong jolt akin to an amplified feeling of heartbreak, such as breathlessness, tightness in the chest, muscle pain, etc. (with the potential for lasting damage at player discretion) as the object of their affection begins to wither and decay. This lasts for 60 seconds total.
