Quote:
Snow Strike (11) : While out, a sudden snowball smacks you squarely--then another, and another--launched with uncanny accuracy from nowhere you can pinpoint. Whether it’s one unseen assailant or an entire invisible team, the barrage is definitely targeted, and attempting to throw snowballs back or defend yourself only seems to escalate the attack. Sometimes the snowy onslaught will follow you if you run; other times, stepping past a certain point makes it abruptly stop, as if whatever’s behind it has lost interest. No matter how intense it gets, the bombardment always dwindles after a few moments, leaving you cold, dusted in snow, and wondering who--or what--decided you were the perfect target for winter mischief.

Carterhaugh refused to let occasional weirdness dampen his enthusiasm for snow. Snow was lovely, beautiful, and charming. It covered the world in a soft blanket that quieted everything, even the harshest of feelings, and he loved it.

But oh, Destiny City was testing him. First with the coarse, irritating, insert Anakin Skywalker sand speech here garbage, and now because he was apparently getting []i]pelted with it out of nowhere. Though that was probably human intervention--magic snowballs flying out of the blue (or, black, given that it was quite late at night) seemed pretty unlikely to him.

"Hey!" He snapped, spinning around to search for the source of the snowballs--which, by the way, was absolutely ******** ridiculous. And when his eyes landed on a familiar black-and-teal fuku, his eyes narrowed.

That was the man who'd been so casual about murder. Carterhaugh remembered him. He'd won before--maybe this was petty revenge for the fist to the face. tHat almost even seemed reasonable.

"Lowering yourself to throwing snowballs is incredibly childish for someone who claims to be so above human morality that murder doesn't even bother him," he snapped, as he stormed over.

Tyndareus enjoyed being out in the snow as Tyndareus rather than Evren. It was nice to not feel like he was freezing bits of himself off, especially in less clothing than was usually required to stay warm.

However, the accusation of being childish enough to throw snowballs at someone halted him in his tracks, turning to stare at the Squire with utter disbelief. Oh, great, that ******** is back.

"Excuse me? I did no such thing," he snapped back, irritated.

He gestured to the snow around him. "Look. Only footprints, you simpering fool. Do you see any spots where my hands might have scooped up snow?"

"Simpering fool? Which Saturday morning cartoon did you crawl out of, you absolute ******** clown?" Yes, Carterhaugh knew this man was dangerous. Yes, he knew that he was storming his way into a fight that he did not necessarily need to get into. No, he was still not someone who was particularly capable of combat. And yet, he had gumption. And also annoyance, and a desire to bring this jackass's ego down a peg.

Sure, maybe he hadn't thrown the snowball. Maybe his evidence was reasonable. there was no one else around, but this was Destiny City. Magic snowballs didn't seem that weird.

However.

He scooped up a snowball of his own, quickly, and hurled it at the Negaverse Senshi with force.

"Clown?!"

Okay. Tyndareus could, perhaps, admit he deserved that a little. That sort of thing had worked for him years ago, but obviously it didn't quite work anymore. Especially with the lack of respect the White Moon had for just how dangerous members of the Negaverse could be. He'd have to adjust his vernacular.

"You—"

And he promptly ate quite the mouthful of snow shot into his face with utter contempt. He staggered back a step and spat it out, blinking at the Squire.

"Are you ******** serious?" he demanded.

Well. If that's how it was going to be. He bent, made a snowball as fast as he could and chucked it at the Squire, a smirk on his face.

He would forever to his dying breath deny that it gave him a rush to act like a child again.

"Absolutely I am," Carterhaugh said, cheerfully as anything. He was not going to give a servant of the Negaverse respect or dignity, especially not one that was puffing himself up so thoroughly.

He was sort of equally unprepared to catch a snowball to the face himself.

Okay, well, there was something delightful about having his snow attack responded to in kind. This didn't have to be life or death, and it weasnm't like he didn't know the Negaverse was made up of suffering, damaged people.

Just people, who maybe needed a hand extended in friendship.

"Oh, now it's on," he said, merrily, scooping up another snowball and hurling it.

Tyndareus smirked even wider when his snowball hit its target. Good. Excellent, even. Clearly the Squire hadn't been expecting such a fine counterattack, despite starting this whole mess. One might even call the thing he had on his face a smile, if one was wholly moronic.

"Oh, is it?" he asked, lurching to the side to take the snowball to the shoulder rather than the face this time. "Okay, jester, let's see your circus act!"

He looked around and ducked behind a nearby bench, a thrill growing in him that he hadn't felt in... God, years. Maybe even a full decade. He quickly packed a new snowball and popped back up over the bench to launch his newest attack.

Carterhaugh couldn't help it. He started laughing, twisting away from the next snowball as he went to scoop up another for himself. He was glad for the glove son his fuku; at least it meant his fingers weren't totally freezing as he hucked it at the Corrupt.

"I aim to delight," he said, and frankly, he almost sort of meant it.

He still remembered what Tyndareus had said, the last time they'd met. How he'd so casually dismissed that man's potential death because he'd been seeing it since he was a child.

Maybe he felt bad, for someone whose life had turned out that way. For someone who had likely not had very much joy. And maybe, without another person's life at stake between them, a silly little snowball fight felt like an offered hand.

The latest snowball from the Squire splattered across Tyndareus's forehead as he'd risen to chuck another snowball himself, forcing him to duck back down for a moment to clear his eyesight. A shiver rippled across his body—partially the cold starting to get to him, partially the deep-seated fear of combat going wrong eating at his instincts. Years of being in the underbelly of the city, where the types of crimes that actually got reported on took place, had rewired his brain, taking even a simple snowball fight and turning into a gunfight.

But he didn't want to believe that, for once. He just wanted to have some stupid ******** fun. Even if it was with an enemy. He couldn't picture anyone from the Negaverse doing this, after all.

Aim to delight, huh? Tyndareus's smile smirk stretched into a mischievous an evil grin. He shot up and hurled one, two, three snowballs in quick succession with a triumphant "Hah!"

Carterhaugh was, he had to admit, not prepared for the fierceness of the onslaught. One, sure, he could get out of the way of, but two and three hit him square in the chest and shoulder, and sent him staggering back, still laughing delightedly.

He ended up, almost without meaning to, plopped down in the snow, waving a hand in surrender.

"Alright, alright, you win, I'm sorry for suggesting that you would throw a snowball at me out of nowhere."

But that really hadn't been so bad, had it? Even if he had to offer up a concession. It didn't have to all be doom and gloom between them.

Carterhaugh's laughter was infectious. Tyndareus couldn't help it. He laughed as he walked over, extending a hand.

"Thank you," he said, a sincerity in his voice that was almost too grave for the situation. He tried to soften it with another laugh, then cleared his throat. "Come on. It's too cold to lay down in the snow for long, White Moon Scum."

He'd have to deny this entire day ever happened, because against his will, the insult came out sounding almost fond.

Carterhaugh took the offered hand, letting Tyndareus help him up. Sure, he could have assumed it was some kind fop trap or threat, but that ran counter to everything that had happened here, on this quiet little evening in one of Destiny City's many snow-covered parks.

"Whatever you say, Chaos b*****d," he said, lightly. "You're not too bad, all things considered."

He wouldn't call them friends, of course, but Tyndareus wasn't some complete monster, obviously. Just someone who'd been dealt an awful hand and had to play the cards he had.
