He left the choice to her--did the 90-10 thing he heard about in that one movie 'Hitch'--and when she finally closed the distance between them, when he felt her lips on his it was like his entire brain could focus on just that one thing.

Cliff eased back into the couch as the kiss went on, and he lifted a hand to her cheek to gently pull her even closer.

Abby unconsciously slipped her hand from his shoulder to the back of his head where her fingers buried into his hair as Cliff sank back into the couch. Her lips cracked open and she sighed against him, lost in the kiss as it continued to deepen.

Finally she pulled back, almost reluctantly ending the kiss. She rested her forehead against his for a moment before pulling back enough so she could study his face. “That was nice.” It was so much more electric than she had expected and she could at least admit to herself that she enjoyed it a lot more than she should have, if the way her body was tingling was any indication.

When she finally pulled away he chased after her, smiling as he kissed her just once more before officially pulling back. He was just as reluctant to end it, but he wasn't about to push the lines on something he assumed would be particularly fragile at the moment. Instead he nodded to her comment, though it felt a lot more than just "nice" for him.

There were definitely sparks, though in his mind it was more like...fireworks.

"So what do you think?" he asked. "One-time type of thing or...is there maybe a chance that there's more to us than just friends?"

Abby didn't know how to answer. She liked that kiss… A lot, both the first one and the short one he had given before pulling back. But it was Cliff. Her sweet, kind, caring Cliff. Could she risk their friendship in what could be a fling? She worried her lower lip between her teeth as her thoughts chased each other.

“I don't know… I just don't know Cliff.” She searched his eyes, hers revealing her uncertainty warring with desire. “I care about you a lot. I don't want this to affect our friendship. It won't, would it? Could it?”

He could sense her hesitation, and he understood why. Friendships-turned-relationships didn't always turn out well and he'd seen it firsthand with some high school friends, so her doubts were well-placed. Still, he smiled and nodded.

"Yeah, I get that. And I'm not saying it couldn't. I mean, honestly it probably will, even if it's just slightly, but I think it's still worth a shot. I've known you since elementary school, and we've been through...a lot," and he paused, giving a look that meant he was also counting the things they went through as more than just civilians.

"But even if it didn't work out I can honestly tell you that I'm not going anywhere and that I'd still want us to be friends no matter what happens. So I think it's worth a shot. Also, honestly the only difference I can see right now is that we'll get to kiss and stuff."

Cliff gave a chuckle, half-joking.

She nodded in agreement, they had been through a hell of a lot. Could the connection they already formed weather a romance or would it get stronger. She couldn't help but smile at him sweetly when he said he would always be there. “I couldn't get rid of you as a self entitled ten year old. I don't know why I think I could get rid of you by kissing you.” She chuckled and poked him in the shoulder.

“Stuff? What makes you think we would do ‘stuff’?” She couldn't help the cheeky smile and raised eyebrow she tossed at him. Even finding his comments amusing Abby quickly got back to the matter at hand. “If we do this, and I'll be honest, I'm still not sure, we can't rush into things. We can't push beyond where either of us want to go.” She put a steadying hand against his chest, feeling his heartbeat beneath her fingers. “If either of us say ‘stop’, this thing… Whatever this is… We stop. Understood?” She was taking a big leap of faith into the darkness. She didn't like not knowing what to expect, not in the least.

"Nope, it takes a lot to get rid of a guy like me," he said with a grin, followed by a chuckle when she posed the question. "Well there's more to a relationship than kissing or any of the physical stuff. I mean, that stuff's great, too, so…" He caught himself before he stammered on and sounded even more like a doofus, thankfully, and nodded along as she laid down the rules.

"Alright, I can deal with going slow," he answered as he placed a hand over hers and squeezed lightly, "and I would never dream of forcing you to do anything you're not ready for. So…"

Abby shook her head at his stammering, her smile bright and amused. The amusement, and smile, faded as he placed his hand over hers, as if he was making a promise. She nodded once, hesitant but willing to try. “I guess that means we are dating?” Her smile was shy but became tinged with mischief as she added, “I guess that means my dad can finally grill your a**. I think he has been waiting years to do so.”

Surprising herself she leaned in and kissed him quickly but firmly before pulling back and finally getting up, her hand slipping from his grasp. “I’m going to get some water. Would you like one?” Her offer was straightforward but it also gave them both time to get their heads on right. And maybe the cold water would chill her racing blood and tossing stomach. How could so much change in such a little time. Her gaze glanced at the tv and to her surprise the movie was long over, they were actually back on the main screen. “Your turn to pick the movie. I'll be right back.”

Abby detoured on her trip to the kitchen to use the bathroom, pausing only once to say quietly, “oh and Cliff…. You couldn't force me even if you wanted to. I still kick your a** in training.” Her shot fired, the bathroom door closed with a soft snick.

"Guess it does," Cliff replied, his own smile widening for all of a second before she dropped the comment about her dad. "I...alright, well that kinda makes me nervous but I think I'll be okay. I always thought your dad liked me, though."

He pouted playfully when she kissed him much too briefly and pulled away to get some water, but the night had already gone so ridiculously well that he didn't have any reason to complain. As she walked off he nodded along. "Yeah, I'll take a water, thanks." But when she detoured to the bathroom he got up as well, playing mock-hurt when she took a jab at their training sessions.

"That's a fair point," he laughed then went to grab the water as well. The cold liquid helped calm him down a bit too, and when he finally sat down again he started rifling through the movies that Netflix had to offer, settling on yet another Disney movie: The Emperor's New Groove.
