Abby's class let out on time so a few of her classmates walked with her over to the field, chatting the whole way. Her laugh was loud and had a few of the players look up. One gave a low whistle while another came up and clapped a hand on Cliff’s back. “Hey man, pass me that chick's number. God, dancers really know how to move.”
Abby didn't even know that she was the topic of conversation. As she broke off from her friends she waved over at Cliff and started to make her way over. Once she was close enough to talk without shouting she smiled and said, “Cliff. How was practice? Are you ready for that pizza and movie night?” She nodded politely to his teammate and shifted slightly as her heels sunk into the field slightly.

Practice was over and done a little later than usual, but not by much. Just enough to push him to the point of near exhaustion, but...well, that was just about every practice if he were to be completely honest. As he was taking long swigs of his water bottle he scanned the bleachers for any sign of Abby. The sudden clap on his back had Cliff choke on his water for a second before he coughed out what sounded like a laugh just as Abby made her way over. "Yeah they can, but get it yourself, dude. I'm not just gonna pass her number around," he said before waving in reply to the smile she shot in his direction.
"Was fine, Coach was still all over us today but it wasn't as bad as yesterday. And heck yes I am. Just lemme grab a quick shower and I'll be out again in a sec, okay?"
With that he jabbed his teammate (who was smiling kind of dumbly) in the shoulder to wake him up before he jogged off to the locker room to get cleaned up a bit. He'd take a proper shower when he got home, of course, but at least while they were picking up the food he wouldn't smell of mud and sweat. He was back within 20 minutes, hair wet and slicked back and giving him a neater look than usual.
"Hey, sorry 'bout that. Let's go?"

Abby nodded her understanding. She would just take a seat in the bleachers while she waited for Cliff to return. She spent the twenty minutes waiting chatting with the three guys who had remained to keep her company. “Just friends,” the tail end of their conversation was cut off when Cliff came back. Abby got to her feet and gave the boys a smile, “thanks for keeping me company. Have a good night now.”
The leggy young woman strode up to Cliff and ruffled his wet hair, “better. You look more like you.” She dried her hand on her handy, dandy towel and asked, “So what's on the menus tonight? Pizza, Chinese, Italian? Since you're buying you get to choose. As for the movie part, I'm thinking more nostalgic than new if you're up for it. Those pictures reminded me of the good old times.”
As they walked away she had no idea that the three guys she had been talking to were watching their exit. They shook their heads sadly and headed into the showers themselves.

The ruffling got a slight smile from him, though he tried to duck away from her hand because the guys were still there. Didn't want them to get the wrong idea, though most of his attention was on Abby by the time she asked him what he was feeling like having for the night.
"Pizza," he said simply, leaning toward her to gently nudge her shoulder with his own before they started walking off. And no, he didn't look back at the three guys he knew were likely still watching them walk away. "And nostalgic sounds good. How classic did you wanna go? Black and white or Grease-era? Or Disney, even."
Frankly whatever movie was fine with him if it meant they got to hang out for the night. He had his homework for the next day taken care of already anyway, so it was just the two of them until the pizza and movies ran out.

“Pizza sounds good.” She nudged him back and smiled up at him. “I'm thinking older Disney. Maybe Dreamworks even. Prince of Egypt, Anastasia, Tarzan… That kind of thing.”
The walk across campus was nearly empty, the sun was barely hanging onto the horizon but the walk to the dorms wasn't too long. Abby repositioned her bag so it wasn't digging into her shoulder as much, “did you get your work done?” She paused by the building door and waited for Cliff to unlock it and let them both in. She smiled at him and asked, “any issues on the papers? Do I need to help you with it?”

"Alright, get the movies and I'll order the pizza," he said as they walked on, a comfortable silence settling as he unlocked the door into the building. As she passed him to head inside he went ahead and took her bag to give her less trouble as they went up the stairs to the third floor, and to his dorm room.
"I did, yeah," he answered as they went, "so we can eat and watch guilt-free, unless you've got work I can help you finish before we start any of the movies?" He unlocked his dorm next, and stepped aside to let her in first, smirking. "I still gotta clean up so when the pizza guy comes just get my wallet and cover it." With that he closed and locked the door behind him, then headed straight for the bathroom.

Abby shook her head, “I got the last parts done before my later classes. Just the work from them is left and they are pretty easy.” She walked over to the tv and collapsed on the couch, flicking the remote to turn the device on. “I've got to read three different love sonnets and compare them, due Thursday, as well as reading and answering ‘test’ questions from the text which is due next Tuesday. Easy.” She shrugged and opened Netflix.
“Alright. I'll cover the tip.” She fished out both their wallets and had it ready for when the pizza guy showed up. While she was waiting she texted her dad, just chatting back and forth about everything from Sherlock to classes. Even staying on campus at the dorms, although a different building than they currently were in, she kept in contact with her father. He was the only family she had left after all and between his classes and hers they didn't really get to see each other except in passing every so often.
When the knock came at the door Abby was more than ready to dig into the pizza and hit play on the movie she had settled on. After paying the man she rapped on the bathroom door, “pizza is here. If you don't hurry up I'll eat it all myself.” The greasy concoction was horrible for her figure but she would just burn it off in practice. “Where are the plates and napkins?” She didn't really expect him to have good china but she at least wanted some napkins. No point in trying to get pizza sauce everywhere.

"Thanks!" he called, already fully undressed and ready to jump into the shower when she mentioned covering the tip. With that he showered, nice and cold to help keep him awake for however long they'd be up, and by the time he was wrapping the towel around his waist she was telling him the pizza guy was there.
Her threat had him open the bathroom door, eyes narrowed at her and without a single care that she could see more of him than was appropriate between friends. All he had on his mind was the risk of losing his share of the food. "Don't you dare, I'll be out in a minute. Coach says I gotta clean up the scruff a little if I wanna get out on the field."
As for her question he pointed toward the little would-be kitchen, stocked with a portable electric stove, a microwave, a mini-fridge and barely any counter space (not that he ever had to do any real prep-work). "I've got paper plates and napkins in one of the drawers and some drinks inside the fridge. Help yourself."
With a smile he turned back around and closed the bathroom door behind him so he could finish up and they could get started on the pizza and movies.

She had glanced up, a smile and laugh ready, when Cliff yanked open the bathroom door in nothing but a towel. She had seen him shirtless before but this time it felt different. Maybe it was the way the towel rode low on his hips or the slight sheen of dampness across his tanned torso, or the single drop of water that was making its way down his chest to be absorbed into the terry cloth. Abby blinked twice, her smile a little strained, before she glanced down at the box in her hand. “Alright… I promise to save you a slice or two.” Her joke was a little flat as her mind wrangled with the thoughts that had just passed through her mind. When the hell did Cliff grow up? She thought she had gotten used to his more muscular physique when she was teaching him how to dance but it was different seeing it in person apparently.
“What?” She glanced up at him and followed his pointing fingers. “Oh yes, good. I'll grab each of us a set.” She put the food down on the small coffee table that was jammed up against the tv stand before grabbing the necessary paper products. “Hurry up. The pizza will get cold.” She was able to shake off her momentary lapse in sanity. Cliff was her friend. Nothing more nothing less. She had seen him shirtless before so why would now be any different? It's not… That's all…. It's not and she won't risk their friendship for anything.
