Mika was really excited for the winter festival, especially since there was to be a skating rink. She'd actually done extra work helping the other prefects with that. She didn't often get to don her skates at Hogwarts and the three week holidays were often too busy to visit the rink in town as often as she'd like. Before she headed down, Mika took a little extra time in getting ready. Her long hair was pulled into a fluffy ponytail, then tied up with a shimmery gold bow. She pulled on her winter boots and grabbed her skates, then hurried down from the ravenclaw commons.
Everything was really pretty, but Mika was hurrying outside. The winter chill sent a shiver down her spine, but she was too excited to care. She sat on one of the benches, swapping her boots for her trusty skates. Alynn had said he'd meet her here, so she'd keep an eye out. As she stepped on the ice, Mika sighed happily, doing a little twirl as she got back in the rhythm of skating.

☾ ⋆*･ﾟ:⋆*･ﾟ Andie was both excited and nervous for the holiday festival. Talya had asked her to go along with her, and that seemed quite fun, though Talya wanted to go skating. While Andie could skate, she was far from skilled at it. Her mumma was pretty good, though, so she'd had at least a bit of a lesson. Her mumma had sent her a pair of skates to wear, which would make things a bit easier. As she got ready for the event, Andie left her wavy hair down, then pushed on her glasses. She debated on bringing her sunnies, but it seemed like it was late enough not to need them.
Walking outside, the girl kept her mouth shut. There were a lot of smells and sounds, but she was still wary of strangers discovering her secret. So far, only Hesperia and Kasamir knew for certain and Andie wasn't sure if that weren't too many people. Thankfully, once she'd stepped outside it was a lot less packed. A chilly breeze carried the soft scent of forest pines and she was able to sigh in relief. Sitting down by the rink, Andie carefully changed her shoes into the skates, making sure to tie them like she'd practiced. Once she was certain they were secure, the girl pushed carefully to her feet. As she wobbled to the ice, she held her arms akimbo, trying to maintain balance on her otherwise shaky footing. Too bad she didn't have something for better support! ⋆*･ﾟ:⋆*･ﾟ ☽

Hufflepuff | Second Year | Twelve Years Old | Single
Talya was pretty sure this would be the highlight of her second year at Hogwarts, and much of the credit went to her adoptive ‘big brother,’ and his friend and fellow Head Student, Alice. At some point, he’d casually asked her what she would like to see as part of a winter festival, and her mind immediately flashed to her memories of Papa taking her to the celebrations in St. Petersburg. Seeing the onion domes of the great cathedral lit up, the grand parade with Father Winter presiding over the festivities, watching it from the vantage of Papa’s shoulders while sipping hot cocoa from a large mug. She also remembered skating outside while the Northern Lights flashed across the heavens.
Kas couldn’t replicate all that at Hogwarts, as such magic was beyond even him; however, there was a rink, and the little Second Year meant to avail herself of the chance to take to the ice again. Talya learned to skate when she was learning to walk, and she endured lessons from stern-faced Mister Grazi until he told Mom she didn’t have the talent to progress further without a real teacher and private lessons. It was about that time she discovered she belonged in the saddle instead of spending years doing school figures and mastering complex maneuvers.
For tonight, Talya picked out a long ice-blue dress with sheer puffed sleeves and delicate lace at the neckline, looking more like Elsa from ‘Frozen’ than anything else, with hair pinned up and accented with sprigs of baby’s breath. She also had her figure skates sharpened and the white boots polished to perfection for the occasion. The little Second Year made a point of getting down to the rink as early as she could, so she could have a bit of fun before it got too crowded.
Stepping out onto the ice, she imagined herself as being the skater Mom hoped for, the little girl from St. Petersburg skating for the Motherland. With arms stretched out, she skated about the circumference of the rink, moving with greater speed and comfort, as old reflexes took over, relishing the feel of the cold air against her face and through her sandy-brown hair. At some point, she flipped about and was skating backwards as quickly as she had been going forwards, her brown eyes alight and a grin on her face.
Only when she was certain it was safe to do so, Talya launched herself through a Double Salchow, Double Toe-Loop combination, before twirling deftly about across the ice, and then doing a little hop and ending in a tight spin as she pulled her arms in close. As she came out of the spin, her cheeks were flushed, and she giggled softly. Feeling charged with energy, Talya skated around as she hoped to meet up with Andie.
It was funny, she hadn’t known Andie for very long, as she was already becoming one of Talya’s best friends at school. Being Hes’ little sister and considering how close Hes was to Kas … well, that made Andie practically family at this point. Spotting her friend, Talya finished the remainder of her lap around the rink before sliding to a sedate T-Stop in front of her.
“Andie, you made it,” Talya said excitedly. “I love your outfit, it’s adorable. Hold my hands, and we can go around the rink together.”

Gryffindor │ Fourth Year │ Fourteen Years Old │ Single
When he learned Kas was helping plan this year’s shindig, Alynn was certain it would be a stodgy affair, like those black-tie dinners he kept trying to take Hes to so he’d have somebody there with him. As much as he liked how things went for Charlotte and Beito’s Spring Dance, it all seemed to be so much for a one-night event. Seeing Mika all dolled up made the effort so worth it; however, it was the getting there that Alynn found all so tiresome. Last year was so uber formal, Kas arranged to have his tailor sent from home to fit him (Alynn) for clothes. Alynn was certain this was done so Kas could get back into Baba’s good graces, though he knew he would never get his cousin to ever admit it.
The Fourth Year Gryffindor was all on board for anything that didn’t involve a tie, black or otherwise. It meant no need for emergency calls to St. Petersburg for a tailor, if nothing else. He heard Talya going on about it during the fall, and she was excited about there being a skating rink for the event. Alynn knew Mika could skate quite well, likely better than he. To be sure, he knew how, after all, his mother made sure that he could, as she learned how when she was a toddler, and his father proposed to her when they went skating on a date. Alynn played hockey at school and would get into pickup matches with his mates, though admittedly they more resembled rugby scrums on ice than anything one might see on the telly.
Free of needing to resemble the little dude on top of a wedding cake, Alynn decided on a pair of black slacks and a dove-gray turtleneck sweater, over which he added an ‘ugly Christmas sweater’ style red Gryffindor sweater. It was loud and garish, and so fitted with Alynn’s mood and sense of humour. He strapped on a pair of hockey skates before taking to the ice.
He was on the ice in time to see Talya speeding about the rink and then do a series of jumps and spins that he was pretty sure, if he attempted any of them, would have him face-first on the ice. Alynn was content to move about on the ice, skating at a comfortable speed as he looked around for Mika, as they planned to meet up at the rink. He soon saw her twirling about on the ice, looking cute as always in a thick white sweater and a long brown skirt. Alynn’s eyes lit up as he skated over to her and said, as a big grin spread across his face, “Mika, I was hoping I’d see you here. Let’s skate together.”

xxxxx♥ Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ? Time for some family skating? Hesperia had been looking forward to the winter festival that was planned by her boyfriend and one of her best friends. She'd helped bring their dream to life as one of the prefects and now it was time to enjoy the fruits of their labors. When they'd decided on a skating rink, Hesperia had written home to have her skates sent to her. What was weird about that was the response had been written by her mother and she also included some baked snacks she'd made? Hesperia had been wholly confused by that, but the biscuits were surprisingly good. She'd have to ask Giagia if mum baked them herself. After helping get everything set up for the day, Hesperia had gone back to her dorm to change into her outfit for the day. She'd spent some extra money to buy herself a red Christmas cloak which would keep her nice and warm during the cold winter months. The best part was that it could be color changes, so she could easily change it throughout the winter. Her outfit was carefully selected and Hesperia accented it with her peppermint earrings. After dressing, she slung her skates over her shoulder and headed on down to the ice skating rink. Andie had mentioned coming down here and Hesperia wanted to get some more face time in with her sister. She got a sense that the younger girl was still a little wary of her based on their first meeting. Which, to be fair, was a little traumatic, but Hesperia had explained herself and hopeful Andie's mum had clarified a little bit to her. Regardless, Hesperia herself was taking steps to make her sister feel more comfortable with the school. Tying on her skates, Hes tested the ice for a moment. Then she skated out, doing a couple speed runs before she skated over to Andie and Talya. "Hey girls, how's it going today?" She smiled widely which caused her fangs to poke out, then did a little spin which made her skirt twirl around her.

☾ ⋆*･ﾟ:⋆*･ﾟ As she carefully took a few shaky steps on the ice, Andie noticed Talya zipping around and doing some twirly-whirlies. She was so good! Of course, it served to show how inexperienced Andie was on skates. Maybe she should've paid better attention in mum's lessons. Maybe it'd become easier as she continued scooting around. Thankfully Talya zipped around and came to a stop nearby. Andie waved, offering a closed-mouth grin toward her friend. "Th-thank you! It is nice and warm." Her wool-lined cape was, anyway. Mumma had sent it along with the skates, since apparently one wanted to be warm - but not too warm - while skating.
Talya offered out her hands, so Andie claimed them, still looking a bit concerned about the skating. But then came another voice, this one with a familiar (and somewhat soothing) scent. "Hello Hesperia. I am... trying to stay upright." Andie giggled, glad that both Talya and Hesperia seemed to be confident on their blades. She watched with wide blue eyes as the older girl did a little twirl. Andie was still glad to be standing. "I didn't realize you both would be so good. But I suppose it's a benefit so I won't fall on my face." Though perhaps she'd be better if she'd inherited some of their skills! ⋆*･ﾟ:⋆*･ﾟ ☽

With another twirl, Mika realized people were joining in. Another was Alynn's cousin, Talya, and she seemed to be a skilled skater as well. That was wonderful! She also noticed Alynn getting there so she took a moment to pick up speed, doing a jump with a spin in the middle. She expertly landed on one foot, now skating backwards before she twirled to face her boyfriend. "Lets skate together indeed! It'll be so much fun to skate with other people. I usually do solo routines." She smiled, claiming his hand with her mitten-covered hand. It caused a bunch of butterflies to light up in her tummy, but thankfully she could pass off her blush as just being cold.

Today marked the culmination of all the work Kas and Alice, and the rest of the prefects, put in since he received a certain owl from Alice over the summer. It took equal parts dreaming and logistics to make the whole Winter Festival a reality. He hoped that students would look back on the festival as fondly as they did other events over the years. It certainly caused him fewer headaches than certain other events he was part of.
Kas was certain the rest of his family grouping was already at the festival, as he added Andie to that number these days, and it required of him a feat of supreme effort to pull himself from monastic seclusion, setting aside his NEWTs preparations to leave and get ready to join in the fun. He was decidedly going the casual route today, wearing a pair of black slacks with a slate-gray dress shirt and a black tie, over which he added an ugly sweater version of a Russian Federation hockey sweater, and then put his fur cloak around his shoulders. It pained him to discover the hockey skates that propelled him through so many matches no longer fit, and he needed to get a new pair.
Lacing up the new skates reminded him of the games played with friends at the neighborhood outdoor rink in Arkhangelsk; he could almost hear their voices as they batted the puck around and took shots at the goals. It almost didn’t feel right to take to the ice without having his stick in hand; however, he was right back in his element the moment he touched the ice. He skated around, staying out of the way of couples as he warmed up. Kas saw Talya doing a series of jumps and spins that he wouldn’t have even attempted, and Alynn and Mika had already found each other among the people gathering on the ice.
The Seventh Year smiled when he spotted Hes, which wasn’t too hard given that she wore a bright red plaid skirt, a brick red sweater, and a full-length red cloak with fur trim. The most important accessory she wore, however, was that smile, which, after the events of summer, was comforting to see. His beautiful Western Star might have been dimmed for a time, but never extinguished. He came to a stop beside Hes, wrapped an arm around her, and kissed her on the cheek. “Having fun yet?” he asked, looking around at Hes, Talya and Andie.

“I’ll bet it is,” said Talya, looking at the blue and white cape with the reindeer motif, reminding her of similar ones she saw worn by girls back home. It pained the little Second Year, thinking she might not get home to see her family at Christmas this year either. Oh, they’d be in Surrey, of course, but it wasn’t the same as St. Petersburg with its festivals, and the grand Christmas dinner at Baba’s estate, especially since she was old enough now to dine with the adults in the main dining room. The Winter Festival eased the pangs of homesickness, but it couldn’t replace eggnog and cookies with Baba, opening presents with Mom and Dad and Froskaya, and riding her horse on Christmas Day.
When Hesperia arrived, she said, “I’m having fun. The rink is wonderful. Any chance we can keep it over the season?” The last was asked hopefully, as Talya missed skating with her friends from Marakov Prep. When Andie mentioned how good she and Hes were on ice, Talya said with a bit of a smile, “Thanks, but I’m pretty sure Mister Grozi would say otherwise. Don’t worry, Andie, we’ll keep you on your feet or go down in a big heap together. Either way, we’ll have fun and something to laugh about.”

Hesperia grinned a little when Andie said she was trying to stay upright on the ice, then she said, "It's not all that tricky but you'll get the hang out it." She said she didn't know that both Talya and Hesperia would be that good at skating. Hes chimed in, "I'd hope I'm good. I've been skating since I was five years old. Every winter like clockwork." She smiled and skated a circle around them, then smiled when she saw Kasamir skating towards them. She waved as her boyfriend skated over then asked if they were having fun yet. The brunette grinned and nodded, then said, "I was just telling Andie about how I've been skating since I was five. Never completed in any skating competitions, but I'm decently good." She held out her hands for Kasamir to take so that they could skate together. She'd come back to check on her sister and Talya after a little while.

☾ ⋆*･ﾟ:⋆*･ﾟ Andie click-clacked as she hesitantly took a little step forward. Everyone else seemed to be able to swoosh by, leaving her feeling a little goofy. But if Hesperia seemed to think she'd figure it out, surely she would. Maybe it was more instinct than she was allowing. But when she told Hesperia she was good at skating, Andie was surprised to hear the older girl had been skating since she was just little. "I thought I was doing well enough, but I should've practiced more." Though the thought of practicing stirred a feeling of homesickness. She really wished she was able to skate with her mumma.
Wide blue eyes looked up when Kasamir skated over, with the older boy asking if they were having fun. Andie nodded, though she still looked every bit like she might topple over. Talya asked if they could keep the rink all season long, which would be an interesting addition to the school, most likely. The second year then reassured that someone (perhaps one of the professors?) would disagree, then said they would help keep her upright... or tumble down together. Well, Andie hoped it wouldn't end with them all in a pile! She looked over when Hesperia restated that she was a good skater, making Andie feel a little worse about her own skill. "They're both very skilled," she added quietly, holding tighter to Hesperia's arm so she wouldn't fall over. ⋆*･ﾟ:⋆*･ﾟ ☽

Thanks to her friends, Poppy knew what to expect for the Winter Festival months in advance. She met up with her parents in Hogsmeade to collect her ice skates and a sparkly outfit to wear. She was going to showcase all those years of ice dance practice. She was almost better at dancing on ice than she was on the dancefloor. She was really excited for the event, especially because she would get to show her friends her skills. Hopefully they both liked skating! She hurried out to the rink, watching a few others do a few twirls.
Poppy unbuttoned her coat, revealing the sparkly number underneath. She swapped her pink, sparkly snow boots for ice skates, then happily slid onto the ice. She did an elegant set of dances and jumps, her long hair swirling in a bit of a vibrant pink which often only lit up when she was feeling particularly boastful. But she had spent way too many hours practicing to not be proud of herself! Now it would just be nice if she found a doubles partner... hopefully Padraig was good on the ice~

xxxxx✮ Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ? I hope I don't make a fool of myself Padraig had been excited for the Christmas themed winter celebration that the head students were putting on this year. He loved Christmas even before he was adopted and now he could celebrate it easier with his friends. When he learned that there was going to be an ice skating rink and a dance floor, he figured that Poppy and Zoe would want to hang out inside. Except that Poppy had practically flipped out when she learned about the skating rink. She had asked Padraig to come down and skate with her and had never asked him if he could skate. He couldn't, but he would entertain her here and give it a try. He couldn't be that bad at it, right? So he'd written a letter home and asked if Kandace could get him some skates and send them to him. About a week later, a package arrived with some skates in it. He tried to practice with them before the event, but he couldn't do much with them. On the day of the event, Paddy got dressed in his Christmas sweater, a pair of jeans, some Christmas socks and his winter jacket. He wore his school shoes down to the rink, then changed into his ice skates. Padraig stood on the side of the rink for a moment, watching Poppy doing some fancy ice dancing. He smiled a little as he watched her, more that a little starstruck simply by her outfit. She looked really gorgeous out on the ice and he wanted to skate out there and join her. Cautiously he stepped out onto the ice and tried to duplicate the movements of the people out on the ice. He got maybe two or three steps onto the ice before he got wobbly. Okay, no biggie, just right foot forward, left foot forward. He was a little more wobbly and he leaned forward, then backwards trying to get his balance. On the second movement forward, he fell face first onto the ice. There was a painful crunching sound and Paddy cried out, "Bloody hell!" Moving to sit on the ice, he felt blood dripping down the front of his face. He pulled back the sleeve of his sweater and moved his hand to cup his nose. Touching it made tears spring to his eyes, but he did his best to pinch back the blood. "Ow, bollocks, my dose," he whimpered, trying to prevent the blood from staining his sweater.
