Honestly, Soyala ought to have known not to toy with strange items she found on the ground in Destiny City. But given that after quite some time of resting at her new home with Murikabushi and the rest, and several months of acclimating to being on the other side, she was getting a little restless, she might have not been thinking entirely well.
Or perhaps it was simply a cattish instinct, which she would of course deny if asked.
Because when she spotted the little wooden die, tucked under a bush, she couldn't help herself. She wiggled it out, batting it briefly between her paws--
And then the world around her changed.

Soyala had heard tales of this strange game.
She had not been able to play it before, but an empty space with a die and nothing else? Yes, that sounded like the mysterious amgic game she knew others had experienced. And when she had tried to access her human form not long after purifying, she hadn't been able to--but perhaps it was worth it to try again.
She took a breath, and this time, when she shifted, she stood on two feet--and with a new outfit.
"Oh," she said, quietly, and she gave it a twirl, letting the twilight colors of her new skirt settle around her. Familiar purples and reds--Murikabushi's colors.
Truly, she was his cat, as it should be. She would have to show him, at their earliest appearance.
For now, though, she bent down and scooped up the die, and rolled it.

Quote: Space 4: Something smells rotten. You can’t see very far into the darkness, but if you squint closely a dark form seems to be dragging itself along the ground. Sometimes you see a pale hand almost close enough to grab you–or, maybe something does grab you. It’s cold, and frightening, and it’s trying to drag you out of bounds. It was dark, when she landed on the space the dice had guided her, and it took Soyala a moment to orient herself in the darkness.
Worse, though, was the smell.
Something had died here, or was currently dead here, and it permeated the space. She was not eager to stay--and as she fumbled for the die, she became even less eager, because she could see it--something. Moving. Dragging in the dark.
Ah. So not dead, then. Much worse.
Soyala darted towards the edge of the space, rolling the die as she went, and prayed that she managed to get away fast enough.

Quote: Space 8: Something slithers across your foot, so fast that you might have thought you imagined it. Except, a few seconds later, it happens again. And then, again. Snakes keep moving across your space. If you move, they see you–and they might bite. Some of them hiss, some are capable of spraying a poisonous liquid that can cause itchiness or burning. Oh.
Soyala froze when she felt a scaly body move over her bare feet.
That was...not good. Soyala did not like that. She did not like being presented with the possibility of being bit, especially since she couldn't tell what kind these were.
But all she had to do was not upset them, right?
So she picked her way across the square carefully, doing her best not to alert the slithering creatures.
When she made it across, she dropped the die carefully, hoping it wasn't loud enough. And as she heard upset hisses behind her, she moved forward, leaving the slithery creatures behind.

Quote: Space 13: At first, the square is quiet. Nothing seems amiss. It’s unnerving in how safe it seems. But then, it only takes a few seconds before you understand why. It’s just taken a moment for them to get to you. The patter of tiny feet is rapidly approaching. There’s no light to see them, but there’s a reflection in their beady eyes. Rats. Thousands of them. Chittering, frothing in the mouth. These are strangely grotesque, mutated abominations. They’re running at you like they haven’t got a fear in the world–only, hungry. And rage. If they get to you, they’ll eat you alive. The ground is trembling with their weight. You’d better roll quickly if you don’t wind up a meal. The quiet, safe square did its work, lulling Soyala into taking a moment to catch her breath. Perhaps it was a...free space, of sorts? Maybe she had gotten lucky?
And then there was movement.
Skittering, chittering movement.
she was not proud of herself. She screamed, seeing the rats coming fro her. Perhaps that was embarrassing as a cat, but she hated rats. Absolutely despised them.
And as she turned tail and ran, she could feel them behind her. Little teeth grabbed at her skirts, and she felt one clamp down briefly on the end of her tail, but she kept running, and threw the die as she got close to the edge.
It hurt. And she tripped a little as she escaped. But she got out, and even though her tail stung with little bites and she was sure her pretty dress had holes in it from ratty teeth, at least she had made it forward.
On to the next.

Quote: Space 16: As you step into your square, something cracks. At first, you can’t tell what it is, but as your full weight moves onto the square, the ground shifts beneath you. It’s cold, and it’s ice, and a hole falls underneath you, plunging you into frigid waters. There’s enough floating ice that you should still be able to roll the dice to get out of here, but you have to go quickly–you’re soaked, in chilly water, and something just swam by your feet. Having bare feet was beginning to be a detriment, Soyala thought. Because the moment she put her toes on the next square, she knew--ice. Cold. And though she started to run, hoping she could outrun whatever would happen, she wasn't fast enough.
The ice cracked under her partway through, dropping her into the water.
She cried out, scrambling for the edge, and hauled herself partway out, just enough to roll her die.
As it clattered to a halt, she hauled herself out of the water, tumbling onto the next square and getting on her way.
Bitten, cold, and shivering.
But surely the end had to be near?

Quote: Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best. Soyala moved slower than she would have liked, shivering the whole time. Her feet hurt, her ears drooped, and she felt miserable.
But the dice, it seemed, were on her side, because the next square she stopped on had no danger. For a moment she feared it was like the snake square--but it wasn't.
Light, warm and shimmering, carried her back to Destiny City, and when she was on the other side, her aches and shivers disappeared.
She tucked the die into her subspace like a trophy, and shifted back into her cat form. Perhaps that was enough excitement for one night.
