Quote:
All the Wrong Places (11) : Your GPS keeps glitching. It doesn’t matter what app you use. It doesn’t matter if you walk, drive, or bike. You’ll be given the correct address, but the directions always take you somewhere else–somewhere you don’t want to be. No matter what address you type in, the directions always take you to the same place–and it isn’t even always obvious that’s where you’re headed until you arrive there. Again, and again, and again. You don’t want to be here. But something does.

Staring down at her phone as she tried to figure something out, Chillingham was just a little frustrated that she kept ending up at the same place. Sure, if she powered down, she could ask someone without looking more out of place than she was, but so far she hadn't seen anyone.

Looking back at the weird house her phone kept bringing her to, she scrunched her face up and really looked at it. It looked old, for America, but it wasn't the museum she was supposed to be going to in order to scope out things to take pictures for her homework assignment.

Walking down another street, she shook her phone as it recalculated and started bringing her down another path. Things looked promising at first, given the fact that she was passing through a neighborhood she hadn't seen before, but eventually, after a few more turns, she could see that weird house again in the distance.

Squatting and then plopping down on the curb, she looked around for someone because at this point, she was horribly lost.

Sighing, Saiph wandered the streets of the city, only half-heartedly patrolling. She and Cuan had reached the compromise of she would power up and go out for at least an hour every night. In return, Cuan wouldn’t press her about what she’d seen on their last visit to her planet. It was, she thought wryly, completely unsatisfactory in the way only a good compromise could be. But she’d given her word to the kitten, so here she was. The good thing was that it was fairly quiet. She hadn’t felt a single Chaotic aura or heard any signs of distress or gargoyle attacks. There was an Order aura not too far off though. She’d debated for a moment before shrugging and deciding to head towards it. With luck it would be someone she knew. And if not, well…? Then she could hopefully make a new acquaintance and maybe learn something interesting.

Having thus made up her mind, the chibi senshi tracked the aura, frowning slightly as it kept seeming to circle around. Weird. Very weird. Eventually, she got closer and realized that she could see someone sitting on the curb. And since there wasn’t anyone else she could see, Saiph concluded that this was the owner of the signature she’d been trailing.

“Are you okay?” she asked, slightly hesitant. “Do you need help?”

Looking up as someone came up, she really had to look up as the senshi was taller than her. "Oh well, my GPS is all knackered. I was trying to find the Museum of Natural History for a project." Casting another look around before looking down at her phone again, she sighed slightly.

"I'm not sure what's wrong with the bloody thing." Tapping at the directions, she tried putting in a few others as she angled her phone so the newcomer could see. Each and every address ended up here, and she scrunched her face up slightly before just turning her phone off.

"I'm not from here, but is this just a neighborhood, I think? I could use help finding my way. I'm Chillingham." Offering her hand up to shake theirs, she perked up at least a bit with the offer of help.

”Saiph,” she replied, taking the offered hand and shaking firmly. She glanced at the phone and slowly nodded her head. Goofy GPS. It happened. But usually it only sent you to the wrong place within a very short distance of the right place. “Yeah, this is very much a residential neighborhood. Museum’s not far, but your GPS put you way off course.”

She hadn’t missed how every attempt on Chillingham’s phone had led to this particular location and frankly? She didn’t trust it one bit. Offering both hands to the knight to help pull her to her feet, Saiph gave a wry grin. “As a very wise lady once said to me as she whipped a gargoyle out of the sky, this is the usual Destiny City Bullshit. This is my neck of the woods and I walk a lot, so I can get you to the Museum without needing GPS.” She spared a glance at the house that Chillingham had been led to and frowned at it. No weird Chaos feelings, but something was off. The sooner they were away, the happier she’d be.

“Ah, just for the sake of experimentation,” she began, “let’s leave your phone off for now. I know the way and if something’s witched your GPS, it’s just safer to take it out of the equation, y’know? So, what kind of project are you working on?”

It was a harmless enough question and one that Saiph hoped would help distract her new knight friend from her directional confusion.

Smiling a bit more, she was glad that the museum was close even if she'd been walking in circles for a while. "Not sure what's with it, it's never done this before."

Getting up, she burst out laughing at the way Saiph explained things. It reminded her of Joy, but she wasn't sure if they had a whip or not. "I wish I could have whipped one out of the sky, it took offense to me thwacking it with my lantern, and my friend and I had a hard time with them."

Turning her phone off, she chucked it into subspace for extra good measure. "Sounds good, off we pop then?" Glad to have met someone both helpful and friendly she was fine sharing her boring project with them.

"I have to take photos of bones and talk about the things that lived and died in history here. I know it's different than back home, but it's boring... I'd much rather work on my songs for my composition class so I can really get started on making it big here." Thinking about it, she stopped for a second and smiled even more.

"If you like rock music, maybe you could see my brother and me play sometime! We've been trying to find some places to play for free for people, but I keep getting lost."

”I just used an old baseball bat,” Saiph admitted, chuckling softly. “As for your phone, I don’t really know what to tell you. It might be perfectly fine tomorrow.” In fact, she rather suspected that it would be in perfect working order once Chillingham wasn’t trying to use the GPS to get to the museum. She grinned at the knight’s words, finding them completely adorable and nodded in agreement, “Off we pop.”

As she led the way, she listened as Chillingham explained her project. Nodding, Saiph thought it actually sounded pretty interesting, but then, she liked bones. She was curious about where, exactly, ‘back home’ was though. “Where are you from?” she asked. “Everyone I’ve ever talked to about college stuff all say that the schools want to churn out well rounded people, so they make ‘em take a lot of different classes outside of their majors. Does it really not work that way where you’re from?” Again, Saiph couldn't say it sounded boring, but if she had a particular curriculum that she’d prefer to follow… Well. She could see where it would be annoying.

A quick glance around reassured her that they were still heading in the right direction and she felt her shoulders relax slightly. And with that relaxation came increased curiosity about her new friend. “Oh! You’re studying music? I love singing, but I never thought about taking music classes. I’m more interested in animation myself, but that could change by the time I get to college, yknow?”

She listened with interest and grinned at the knight. “I like most kinds of music, but if you and your brother want to set up free shows, you should really talk to the Chamber of Commerce people. They have people there who work to do free shows and festivals and stuff. I’m sure they’d know places where you guys could play! And some of the coffee shops do open mic nights that you could sign up for. Maybe some of the bars too, but I’m way too young to try and get into a bar so I don’t know for sure with that one.”

"I didn't know that was something I could do..." Feeling kind of silly about something that might have been obvious. But she also didn't really have anything like that in the condo. "Okay, well that's good since I need it to get around the city."

Keeping in step with Saiph, she smiled as they repeated her phrase. Part of her wondered if some of her other friends might pick up the slang from Leeds while around her and Freddy.

"Oh, Leeds, in England. We still have to learn about all sorts of topics, even if maths is a pain. But history back there was more about the people and not the animals; that was more in science class." Tilting her head a bit from side to side, she really hadn't gotten used to the changes just yet, but that was fine as long as she did well enough.

"Yes! Music composition, I want to be the next big thing with my brother, and if we can find a few bandmates, it would be great! I'll talk with him about that, the Chamber of Commerce?" Repeating it as she tried to remember it, she was sure that would be something much more up her brother's alley than hers.

Starting to put things together from the bits and pieces, she wondered how young they were while still being so tall. "Animation is amazing, but it seems really hard. I know Mum always says that, though, about how time can pass and things change. But I still want to keep at it."

Pouting slightly at the mention of a bar, she remembered how that other Saturn knight had busted her snooping around while powered up at one when a concert had been going on. "Back home, I'm old enough to be at one, but here the laws are weird. I'll have to see about someplace my classmates and other people can go, so maybe an open mic night."

Utterly delighted to have been of help to a college student, no matter how tiny, Saiph grinned. A foreign student at that. Laughing a little, she couldn't help but point out, "Natural History is science. But it's history too. Just not the boring people kind. I like it. It's really important to understand how everything fit together back then." She continued walking, though she went quiet for a moment. If Chillingham was from England, it would make sense that the history taught there was far more people centric.

Well, regardless, all that wasn't really her business. She was here to help guide. And speaking of... "We're about a block away. You should have plenty of time to root around before they close for the night. And yep! Chamber of Commerce is responsible for a lot of the events in the city. Even if they can't give you and your bro your own concert, they can help you find the people who can. Were you here over the summer? They put together the Star festival every year and it's always really good."

She did blink hearing that the drinking laws were so different in England though. Well, okay, entirely different country but still... "I'm not so sure I like the idea of younger people being allowed to drink," she finally admitted. Then smiled and sighed. "Young people are ******** idiots and I'm including myself in that assessment."

Pouting slightly as she listened to Saiph, she couldn't help but feel like they sounded a bit like her brother when he went on about how she had to focus on her grades. "Maybe... but I've been to plenty of museums back home. So at least I know things will be new here, maybe something to tell my brother about too."

Looking ahead, she could see the vague shape of the building and realized it looked a lot squarer than the Royal Museum. It definitely looked like a few hours wouldn't be enough to really go through the whole place, but at least she could get a peek before coming back with her brother later.

At the mention of Star Fest, she grimaces slightly. "We were here, but there was this gross chicken thing that tried to attack us. I did see a lot of the charms and things around the city, though." She wished she'd gotten more time to look around at things, but classes had been hard to adjust to.

Stopping for a moment as the other sighed and mentioned the difference in drinking ages, she couldn't help but laugh a bit. "My brother and I never really took advantage of it, but I liked watching the World Cup at the pub; everyone was always so lively during the games. There are a lot of ruddy bastards when they get too much to drink though."

"You saw that ******** chicken too?!?" came Saiph's rather inelegant reply. For a moment, all other thoughts were driven from her head by the memory of the awful, stinking bird and the weirdo negaverse officer who'd helped her fight it. "I got cornered by the damn thing and actually got a rescue from a guy in the Negaverse. I still can't find anyone who can tell me what it was or where it came from!"

Clearly, this was a source of annoyance for the chibi. Sure, she'd been attacked by gargoyles and, on one memorable occasion, kidnapped and held hostage in some creepyass village. But none of that annoyed her quite as much as the giant chicken. "I hated that thing," she finally said, huffing a little. She allowed herself to be distracted by Chillingham's mention of hanging out in a pub, glancing over with interest shining in her eyes.

"Sometime, I think I would like to hear more about your experiences growing up in England," she finally said. "But I have a lot of questions, you have a project and the museum closes soon. And speaking of which," she paused dramatically and gestured to the massive building that lay just across the street. "Here we are! You should have a good hour or two before the guards start to make huffy noises at you."

Beaming at the knight, Saiph wiggled her fingers in a little wave of farewell and turned to head off. She had a lot of respect for school projects and didn't want to keep Chillingham from hers!

"I still wanna hear about England sometime, though!" she called back, cheer evident in her voice. "Good luck on your project!"

"Ewww.... there were more of them?" The one she'd dealt with had been more than enough, but to know there had been multiple made her squirm a bit.

"Hopefully, no more of them come back.... But I'd like to hear more about the city, too. See you later, Saiph!" Waving back as the senshi started to walk off, she then turned to look at the museum, which was most certainly there and not where the GPS had been trying to take her.

At least now she could get some things done and wandered inside with her phone camera out and at the ready to speed run her project.
