Principled: Even before Chaos ruined Fiyerté’s world, he lived a messy, complicated, unpredictable life. Trying to survive it the best he could, Fiyerté developed a set of beliefs and values he could cling to

Arrogant/Stubborn: On some level, at his core, Fiyerté is a lost, traumatized little boy who blames himself for his world and his people falling to Chaos. But surrounding that core of lost, traumatized little boy is a middle-aged intellectual snob who absolutely knows more than you—at least in his own mind. Obviously, on the finer details, he doesn’t know everything. In bigger picture terms, though, Fiyerté always thinks that he has the correct measure of things, even when he’s ignoring massively important aspects of a situation. This arrogance makes him extremely inflexible once he’s decided how things are and/or how they need to be. No, he does not want to “consider other options”; it’s not his fault that you’re wrong [citation needed].

Deceitful: If you ask him, Fiyerté does not outright lie very often. However, he rarely tells the whole truth either, preferring to adjust how he presents information in manipulative ways. He plays fast and loose with language, strategically choosing both his words and what pieces of any given story to emphasize, downplay, completely ignore, etc. He will likewise offer people promises that sound like they honor someone’s requests but the specific phrasing will be ambiguous enough that, when he does the opposite of what you wanted, he can claim that he never said he would do things your way. Little choices in how he tailors a story to suit his audience help him craft narratives that deliberately mislead people about the reality of any given situation.

Cynical: Fiyerté always hopes for the best……but he believes he can only truly expect the worst. In his mind, everything will always turn out badly unless someone intervenes because the world is fundamentally broken. Good things only happen if someone (usually Fiyerté) steps up and accepts whatever necessary sacrifices will make them happen. People he doesn’t know, he easily writes off as either villainous caricatures who revel in the world’s brokenness and thus deserve no compassion, or pitiable innocents who need him to save them (regardless of how they feel about that). Despite regularly ignoring any evidence that contradicts his beliefs, he sees his perspective as “meeting reality on its own terms.”

Unaccountable: While Fiyerté has an undeniable martyr complex, that is not real accountability. He will admit to being wrong on smaller points while tying a mental logic-pretzel to justify how, actually, he’s still right about the bigger picture. When he harms someone, he will admit it and sincerely apologize, but he won’t course-correct (except to better avoid getting caught). He would rather punish himself over sins and failings he perceives in himself than internalize someone else’s perspective on how he hurt them or change his behavior.
