Nicko has always been the “brains” of the twins. He always thinks things out and plans for every eventuality. His logical thinking is often deferred to helping his twin plan out pranks with the least number of injuries... or detentions.

Nicko wants to be better than the best. He has his whole life planned out and has every intention to exceed every step. He will do everything required to boost himself to the top, even if it means late nights and early mornings.

Nicko really loves learning through reading and writing, more so than through exploring his surroundings. He tends to learn through books far easier than hands-on, but perhaps it’s more to do with his love of reading.

Once Nicko is working on something, it is really difficult to get him off topic. He usually hones out any distractions, working tirelessly until the task is done. The downside is that if he is distracted, it takes a lot to get him back on the task.

Unlike his twin, Nicko prefers to chill. While his brother is wild and easily excitable, Nicko would much rather read or do puzzles quietly in the house. Sure, he likes wandering and adventuring, but even then, he’ll go at a slow pace and look at everything nature can offer.

Even when people worry about trouble, Nicko is quick to accept flaws and try to help people. He will always opt for cooperation and compromise, rather than trying to be right. He figures there’s much more to being kind than to being the winner.

Nickolaus is the youngest child of Ulrich and Ingrid Katzmann, born seven minutes after his twin brother. He has an older sister named Anneliese and an older brother named Matthias. The twins were born in Munich, Germany and grew up playing with their older brother. Nicko was often drawn into his twin’s pranks, figuring out ways to make the pranks work without hurting or maiming anyone. At one point, when he was six, the family had gone on vacation to the ocean. He was having fun on the beach, building a really cool sandcastle, but Leo wanted to go play in the water. He was hesitant, but his brother hadn’t ever led him astray before. The twins hurried to the water, but they didn’t notice the tides shifting until it was too late. A wave knocked Nicko into the water, and washed him back. It was a terrifying few moments getting tossed about under the waves, never knowing which way was up and which was down. Eventually he was pulled from the water, but he’s never since stepped foot in the water. Several years later, he and Leo got their letters to Durmstrang... just in time to find out their family was moving. So instead, the boys swapped those letters for ones from Hogwarts.
