Hey there! For Challenge 4, I've been thinking a lot about exploring different face items to step out of my comfort zone in terms of style, so I was wondering (just for my own clarity), could I please confirm the rule about modifying base features?
My understanding has always been that we shouldn't use items that change base traits like lips or eye shape, so I just want to be certain I'm interpreting this correctly. It's truly been a learning journey so far and I'm keen to bring Vanity in a different direction this week (definitely with new brows haha), so I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on anything before committing to specific design ideas!

You can use any face mods, as long as it doesn't drastically change or completely alter the shape of your model's base features. It's only a matter of experimenting with face mods that enhances your model's base features, and see which items works best for your model.
Experimenting with eyeshadows and blushes is a good start, and you can try to work from there.
Hopefully this is a helpful tip. emotion_bigheart

Yeah, what iiiFlames said!
In general the rule is "anything a model couldn't change easily!" treating them as if they are a real person you are dressing up. Like, could you change a real person's eye shape on the fly? If you cut the models bangs would they be back to normal in a week? If the answer is no, don't do it! Does that help at all or is it even more vague ha ha
I will add that while anything that alters the shape/colors of the eyes mouth or hair will detract points, it's honestly a gamble that's up to you (not an automatic fail)! Sometimes a participant will make the creative decision to idk, cut a model's bangs and it worked out so well that they GOT points for it, more than what was subtracted. You have to be able to sell what you've done OR knock the judges socks off so much that they don't even notice it!
Does that mean you should do it every time/fall into a habit? I would say absolutely not lolol. The goal at the end of the day is to make the model look amazing with the set features. Really cool ideas + plus respecting the process can be a somewhat grey area that's why the selling it part is important too redface
if you are ever unsure about how what you alter lands, shoot it over to a mentor and get a second opinion. but I always say if YOU love the look it's so much easier to convince others to love it too! Be proud of what you make heart

I did find makeup for skintone D to be a bit challenging (I hate how many of these blushes make Vanity looks like she’s having a cold/stuffy nose XD) and in the past few challenges, I bypassed this due to the narratives I chose, but this week as I’m trying to do something different this is something that I’m going to consider more of.

Thank you so much for this explanation!! It feels kind of silly but maybe I just took the FAQ too literally so I didn’t consider doing any kind of alterations at all in the past aha, I had automatically rejected that as a possibility in my head! But what you’ve explained makes a lot of sense here, I can see why bold/creative choices that use these alters wisely can make up for any potential detracted points.
I’m still not sure if I will go down this route just yet, but I will keep everything you’ve said here in mind and reach out if I have any other questions! ^^
