It had been about a week, give or take, after the events on Tempesti and Athene had found himself sitting on the roof of what had once been a doughnut shop back when he had still been a student at Meadowview. He remembered it being relatively popular back in those days, with the jam doughnuts that they specialised in both cheap and cheerful. The old sign still clung to the storefront - a giant, winking jam doughnut above the faded words "Jam Packed," but the shop itself was long shuttered, having closed at some point over the years. Athene found himself absently fiddling with the old medallion that hung around his neck, fingers brushing absently over the strange symbols in its back as he glanced up at the stars, a takeaway cup of half drunk hot chocolate at his side cooling in the evening air. He had found on his homeworld, half buried in the ground on his asteroid on the night that he’d realised that he’d somehow managed to live past his twenty-fifth birthday, even though at one point he had been so sure that he wouldn’t. That had been three years ago, when he (or rather Arian) had still been managing to divide his time between Destiny City and the UK more evenly, although since then he’d found himself more in the UK than in DC. The sudden flare of an aura broke his train of thought, although Athene didn’t move from his position. Instead he let his fingers fall away from the medallion and reached for the cup of hot chocolate instead as he took a sip of the lukewarm contents. Kyuseisha no Hikari Hope that this works as a start Kyu, but if not lmk and I’ll tweak it. Also I was totally tempted to call it Re: Sadalsuud instead

There wasn’t such a thing as a dull moment in Destiny City. If you looked, somewhere, something was going on.
Remarque wasn’t sure if he preferred the moments between ‘somethings’ or if they only made him restless.
He’d been in Mirrorspace for the better part of an hour and exited only to offer himself a bit of kindness. It was so bright and his eyes were screaming for reprieve. Initially, he’d only expected to let the darkness of the city chase away the burn–maybe take a little walk, enjoy the breeze. It was fall now; he ought to enjoy it before the bitter chill of winter rolled in.
But then, if he was enjoying anything, it might as well have been good company.
Remarque stepped out of the mirror and clocked an Order energy signature so close that it would have been criminal not to at least stop by.
Better, then, that he even recognized them.
“Ah,” he greeted brightly, with reinvigorated interest in the night. He approached effortlessly, with long steps an easy gait. “Athene. Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.” Truly.
“Where have you been hiding? It’s been ages. I was starting to think you’d found some trouble.”

Whilst Athene was somewhat out of practice, he hadn’t been so far gone that he’d failed to recognise the aura as being one that belonged to the Dark Mirror Court. Although he hadn’t realised quite how close the other aura was– Well at least not until he heard a familiar voice hailing him. He lingered for a moment and took a couple more sips of the lukewarm hot chocolate, before rising to his feet and turning, as his lips quirked up in small but friendly smile. "It’s been a while Remarque" he agreed quietly. Although ‘a while’ was something of an understatement given that it had been at least three years since he’d last seen the other senshi. "And no, no trouble" he added as a rueful note crept into his quiet voice "Unless you count teenagers as trouble." And even so the teenager in question was more of an Arian problem than an Athene one. Athene left that part unspoken and instead admitted "But I did get pulled to another senshi’s homeworld around a week ago."

Athene was as soft spoken as always, and Remarque found himself already straining his ears just to make sure he didn’t miss something the senshi said.
“I do, actually, count teenagers as quite a bit of trouble,” he grumbled, scratching his chin contemplatively. Much of the Court consisted of teenagers, and some of them had such a penchant for getting themselves into messes. He thought of Laon and Arawn first, though they were twenty this year. Still young.
Still trouble.
Still worth looking out for.
Remarque didn’t dwell on them; he’d seen them both just hours ago at the antique shop, and he’d left it in their care when he’d gone home for the night. They were doing well enough that he couldn’t find it in himself to huff about any hardships to Athene–though, briefly, he found himself thinking he might rather like to praise them, instead.
But Athene probably didn’t care about the two Dark Mirror Senshi he’d taken under his wing, no matter how polite he was. Remarque kept such things to himself.
Naturally, he was curious to hear about Athene being pulled to another senshi’s homeworld. “What’s going on in the far corners of the universe, anything interesting?”

Athene laughed softly, the corners of his eyes crinkling beneath his glasses as he said wryly "Well in that case I do also have trouble of the teenager-variety." A fond note crept into his quiet voice as he added "But they’re a good kid." Although he doubted that his brother would appreciate being thought of as a kid, good or otherwise "And truth be told, Liryn manages to get into far more trouble." He paused and then added "Liryn’s a mauvian" after it occurred to him that he couldn’t remember ever mentioning Liryn to Remarque. "As for the far reaches of the universe…" Athene’s expression shifted and turned thoughtful at Remarque’s query about what was happening in the far reaches of the universe, "Well there were some pretty neat displays of craftsmanship" because he had been truly fascinated by the examples that he had seen on Tempesti. "Although, unfortunately, there were also some sort of strange automatons that looked like they were made out of some sort of stained glass."

Remarque nodded knowingly. He didn’t press about the teenager or Liryn, but filed the information away for now.
“Is that so? Pity, that the Dark Mirror Court doesn’t get many invitations to space. Nearly every one of us I’ve met would have loved the chance to visit another world. Such a shame we get a bad reputation just because we get our powers from the mirror.”
He knew, of course, that there was a certain brand of Chaos that came with that alignment, but so far it had never been an issue.
Well, not compared to the Negaverse.
All Chaos had its problems–but it wasn’t like the Knights or the White Moon fared much better.
They could find trouble anywhere.
“Put in a good word for me next time, maybe I’ll help. I think automatons are very interesting. And stained glass? Well, I bet that was lovely. Did you all make it out okay?”

Athene laughed gently "I still owe you a visit to my homeworld, I haven’t forgotten" and it was something that he still intended to keep to, even if his and Remarque’s paths didn’t seem to cross all that frequently. But he did consider Remarque a friend, even if it had taken him years to admit it– At least to himself. Because he wasn’t sure that he’d ever explicitly said the word 'friend' to Remarque. He glanced at Remarque as his laughter softened into a small smile, "But I really should fix that." Because it was pretty much a promise and Athene kept his promises. He hesitated as he mentally calculated dates and then added "I know that it’s a little bit of a way off but how about early December? Athene would probably be a lot warmer than DC at that point." That and Robin would still be in school around then. He nodded in answer to Remarque’s question about everyone making it out okay "Yes we did, thankfully." Because the automatons certainly hadn’t pulled any punches - metaphorically speaking.

Remarque regarded Athene with a knowing smile, because he hadn’t forgotten Athene’s promise either. “Early December sounds good. I like to get out of the city when the snow starts falling. Might be a good time for a break by then.”
He could only imagine what he might find on Athene’s world, but even if it had been a dismal winter there too, Remarque would have still jumped at the chance to visit.
Opportunities like that were hard to come by. He wasn’t foolish enough to be picky about them.
“You want to set up a date and time to rendezvous again? I can bring–what, you like hot chocolate, right? It’s not much, but I can bring you that if you’re willing to let me hitch a ride. Unless you can think of something better for me to bring.”
