Will I have to play this before I play KH2? Will it completely confuse me?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 02, 2006 6:47 pm

I personally think you should. It has ALOT of very important story info, and the KH2 storyline could get pretty confusing if you havn't played it. D:

Dangit... I still have to finish it. I thought it wouldn't really matter, but I'm guessing Namine plays a big role in KHII... so I guess I gotta get my rear in gear and play it before Saturday. *is probably getting KHII on Sat.*

Huh...maybe I could just read spoilers or something. >.>;

Well I have beaten Sora and Riku's storys so I will post a summary for those who are unable to play COM for one reason or another.
*SPOILERS ahead (highlight if you need to know)*
Sora's Story:Sora travels through Castle Oblivion after stumbling upon it while following Pluto at the end of KH I. Each floor was a different world that Sora had visited in the previous game. Organization XIII members try to fight Sora and some are killed off. Axel kills Vexen, Larxene is killed by Sora and Sora kills Marluxia in the end. While traveling through the Castle, Namin'e is a witch who altered Sora's memory becasue Marluxia wanted him to be used as a puppet of his. But in the end Namin'e refuses to destroy Sora's heart when ordered to and Sora fights Marluxia and defeats him. Namin'e offers to repair Sora's memory but he would forget his experience in Castle Oblivion if he did. Sora agreed to have his memories restored (along with Donald and Goofy's memory). Namin'e tells Sora and the gang that they need to go to sleep for a little while so she can repair their memories. Jiminy Cricket and the gang decide to put a note in their journal so they wouldn't forget to tell Namin'e "Thank You". So he wrote "Thank Namin'e" in the journal he keeps. Then Where KH 2 picks up at Sora is waking up. Sora slept for a year.
Riku's Story:The Riku that sora encountered in battles and conversations was never the real Riku. It was a puppet made by Vexen to combat Sora. Riku starts out on the bottom of the basement floor with King Mickey. Riku's ordeal was similar to Sora's but Riku didn't meet any of his friends in the worlds, only the heartless and villians as a result of the darkness within him. He is also haunted by Ansem. But King Mickey would always save Riku before he gave in to Ansem's ghost and the darkness. More Organization XIII members are also killed off. Axel uses the Riku puppet to kill Zexion and Riku kills Lexaus. When Riku defeats the ghost of Ansem living within him (the final boss for Riku) He and King Mickey eventually find the room where Namin'e and Sora are at. Namin'e had visited Riku previously in a vision as Kairi telling him that he could use his darkness wihtin him to show him the light. Telling him to embrace his darkness with good intentions. Riku's memories were not altered by Namin'e but Namin'e did ask him if he wanted her to extract the darkness from his heart, but if she did it would destroy Riku's heart. Riku told her not to and that he would learn to control his darkness. King Mickey said he would tag along to see how Riku uses his darkness. Along the road leading away form Castle Oblivion, Riku and Mickey are in the Organization XIII uniforms with the hoods pulled down. They come across a man named DiZ and he asks Riku what path he chooses: The road to Darkness, or the road to Light. Riku's reply was: I choose the road to Twilight that walks between the darkness and light. Then the game ends. (It is also revealed that Namin'e is Kairi's shadow).

I never played it either because my friend said it wasnt that good becaus eof the card based system but I might to see what the story is and learn all the characters backrounds

I never played it either. It was strange to me that they would have put so much info into a tie-over game. Though now that I think of it it's really an extra insentive. You can play the 2nd and understand a good deal[I did.] but if you have played CoM then you'll have a deeper understanding of all that is going on. So you're really getting doubly rewarded with it. [Extra story and knowledge later on.]

Maybe I'll play it someday--even though I'm slightly bitter towards it for being on a handheld I don't own. D= Heh.

I never finished kingdom hearts chain of memories, due to the hatred of the card battle thing and my little brother stealing my gba.

I found a game script and just kinda scimmed through the parts I missed. It does help understand parts of KH2 better. [http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gbadvance/file/kingdom_hearts_com_script.txt]

I still need to get through the Riku part of it. The card thing annoyed me at first, but it grew on me, and it's actually pretty cool. I think someone could play it without getting majorly confused. It sctually made me kind of upset though. I wanted to fight all those Marluxia and them in KH2. ;_;

I only got to play about 3-4 hours worth of CoM due to the fact that I borrowed the game and game system from my friend Cory. When the battery died, I gave it back to him to get charged, but never got to play it since. crying

But I understood KH2 rather well for 2 reasons. One, becuase I looked up all the spoilers online ( :3 ), and two because my role play group decided to RP as Organization 13, so I learned pretty quickly who everybody was and what they did.

One thing I have to ask though. Was Roxas in it at all?
Throughout KH2, they keep calling him a traitor, but I never understood why.

I didn't play it before KH2, but by the end of KH2 stuff made sense somewhat well, just lacking an explination for the beginning. From what I've seen and heard about Chain of Memories, I think it would make the beginning make a bit more sense, but you'd probably be fine playing them in any order really, 'cause as long as you're good at putting things in order in your head (only 3 things to put in order here, can't be THAT hard now can it?) you could easily play them in the order of KH2, KH1, KHCoM or KHCoM, KH1, KH2, or any other order, you'd still be able to make perfect sense of exactly what happened at what point in time for all of 'em.

You really don't have to...
I did the same thing as [~.Kairi.~] and I turned out fine.
I didn't get confused like at all.
