Xaris's Estate Deep Within The Mountains of Dollet's Region.

Xaris sat alone at the vast, polished expanse of her dining table, the silence of her estate amplifying the hollowness within her. It was a place of shadows and echoes, a monument to a life barely lived. The only sounds that dared to break the stillness were the distant, rhythmic footsteps of security staff patrolling the perimeter, and the hushed movements of the occasional maid, ghosts in their own right within these cavernous halls. The air itself felt thin, as if the very life had been leached from the stone and wood. Her gaze drifted to the empty chair opposite her, a phantom limb ache resonating with the loss of her Guardian Force, Diablos. He had been more than a guardian; he had been a brother, a steadfast presence in a life often defined by solitude and difficult choices. The memory of handing him over to Raeka, her daughter Mai's devoted partner, to save him, was a bitter pill. She had acted with the best intentions, yet the unintended consequence, the curse she had unknowingly placed upon him, weighed on her like a shroud.

Exhaustion settled deep in her bones, a weariness born not just of physical fatigue, but of the crushing burden of decisions, the weight of a world that seemed to rest solely on her shoulders. Uncertainty gnawed at her, a relentless tide pulling her in conflicting directions. A part of her yearned to aid Nyale and the other sorceresses, to lend her strength to their cause. Yet, another, more fearful part whispered doubts, questioning whether her involvement would bring salvation or only sow further discord and strife. A dark, insidious thought slithered into her mind, a venomous whisper in the vast silence: perhaps, just perhaps, everyone would be better off if she were never around. If her presence, her choices, her very existence, were removed from the equation, would the world, and those she cared for, finally find peace?

Without Diablos to reassure her, all she had were her own thoughts in her mind. She was truly alone. Her lips trembled, slowly moving away from the dining table, unable to finish her meal as she walked through the empty halls of her home, the sound of her heels clicking and echoing across the hall, felt somehow much more noticable, even her own breaths were something she noticed more. She had grown accustomed to never being alone that when presented with it, all of those doubts and worries began to bubble to the surface. Turning the corner, and entering into the main kitchen, the staff in there were a bit surprised to see her, moving up to her to speak. "Is there something you need Ma'am?" The young chef asked, hesitant to meet her eyes on Xaris, who always held an intimidating presence whether she tried or not. Too much history with her name to make it impossible to not be afraid of her. She shook her head, reassuring her. "No. Just here for something to drink, don't worry about getting it." She said, gently waving her hand to stop the woman from getting her what she was looking for.

She made her way down into the cellar, moving past barrels containing old wine and various other storage food for the kitchen. She walked past all the barrels, appearing to reach for a container holding a praticular pricey brand of Whiskey. Exiting the Cellar with the bottle in hand, Xaris took a large glass cup with her, and made her way to go sit in her theater room, putting on old videos of her and Mai when they were younger together. To try and remember the good things that came from her life.

The Moomba: Momo

___________________________

It had been quite a while since he had seen his old friends. After the second sorceress war, himself and his own friends had inevitably gone their own way for a myriad of reasons. But it seemed like perhaps it was time for some of the gang to get back together, and that was mainly because Maris was basically in space. A long way away. And probably wasn't carrying around Momo snacks any longer.

Or... did she?

But space. That wasn't the point. Momo gave a pawish thumbs up to the larger woman that had accompanying him, though her identity was mostly covered up by wearing a Moomba themed jacket with the hood up. It was sporting the image of the children's tv show hero, Momocus. He was about exercise and healthy eating. And if someone had seen the physique of the woman with him, it would definitely lead to some credence about the show. Maybe. Probably.

We're getting off topic. The door to Xaris' mansion gently rumbled as Momo knocked on it, and afterwards pushed the door bell. The door then shook as a far heavier hand from the covered woman used the knockers with a rude amount of strength. "Myeer!" Complained the orange creature, but otherwise turned back to the door, practicing poses to try and seem as non-chalant as possible. He eventually settled on leaning on the leg of his companion with his arms crossed.

Smooth.

Xaris had been three shots into the movie reel, watching as she and Mai were playing in the tub together, laughing together. Old memories of a time long gone now, and now, she had to be the one to shoot the man her daughter adored. Would she ever laugh or smile with her like that again?

Her thoughts were interrupted suddenly when a knock on the theater door was heard, her head turning towards it for a moment as she turned off the projector and spoke up. "What is it?" She shouted, sounding actually annoyed to be bothered right now. Hesitantly, the security guard opened the door. "M-Ma'am, you have two guests at the door. Its the celebrity Moomba. Momo, and he's brought someone with him." The guard spoke with uneasiness, trying his best to be quick about it, which to his benefit, managed to get Xaris to lessen her agitation towards him. "Let them in. Don't pat them down, just guide them to the theater room." She ordered before she took another shot out of her cup. "Y-Yes ma'am!!" He ran out as fast as he could, not wanting to keep her waiting.

For Momo and his guest, the security opened the door, at first asking for their identification, but stopped as soon as they instantly recognized Momo. After a few guards asked for an autograph from him, the man xaris had sent to get them came sprinting down towards them, panting with his hands on his knees. He bowed to them, or perhaps he was just catching his breath, but he played it off as a gesture of politeness. "A-An... honor.... to have you here Momo! The Lady of the estate will see you in her theater room! He had to catch his breath in between his sentence, but he seemed prepared to walk now, and guide them back to her theater room.

The travel to the room took actually a few minutes to walk to, Xaris's estate encompassing quite a lot of land, practically a complex in its own right with how many rooms she had, all with a purpose, and used by her to some degree. Some more than others at least. Family photos and artwork of demonic imagery littered the walls of her home, some of Xaris's father, ordained as a memorial to him, showing that she loved him dearly and respected everything he taught her. Some rooms were opened, cleaning maids sweeping and dusting various places. Some were weapon rooms, meant for maintaining and building her gear, another appeared to be tech related, all fancy gadgets she had used all over the years, being neatly cleaned and assorted by her staff.

Everyone here was trusted, and vetted by Xaris herself, no one allowed to set foot on her land without extensive training, background checks, and most of all, a grueling two-year apprenticeship with Xaris, where they would accompany her to her places of work, and do anything she asked of them without complaint. If anyone failed, she simply rejected them and sent them on their way, but if they exceeded her trust and expectations, they were rewarded warmly by her. Despite her cold nature, and the fear she could instill into her staff, they all were undyingly loyal to her.

Momo the Moomba was good at a great many things. Auto-graphs were not one of them. His big dumb paws were stupid and large and not at all prepared for something that required dexterity like writing. When one of the servants came over to them in a sprint, clearly out of breath, the Moomba decided to lock in and use his tail to more quickly get through the requests. It didn't help. But he sure thinks it did.

"Myeer!" He said with a salute to the staff, before following their most gentile guide through this big ole' house. But inevitably he began to get bored. Because the walk was talking too slow, and these bipedals were just too slow. Momo began to entertain himself by running circles around the staff that was leading him to the theater.

Momo's cuteness often let him get away with behavior he knew wasn't entirely acceptable, but if he didn't push it too much it was usually all good. The Moomba bounded over the chairs, stopping before Xaris with what was a smile for the leonine face. "Popcorn?" He probably should have looked at what was playing first. His company was far more polite, if quiet, having kept to themselves and merely kept pace with the travel to here. The woman under the cloak shifted awkwardly. She was waiting for something, and it was probably the Moomba to make introductions.

Seeing Momo slide on into the room at high speed was to be expected. The hyperactive moomba could never stay still for long. It was a surprise to see him, even more so now that he was in front of her. Her eyes lingered on the movie she was playing for a moment, before she walked on over to the projector, turning it off and entering into the back left side of the entryway. A switch was located on the wall, and she pulled on it, causing the wall to flip around the other side, containing a full popcorn machine with complimentary seasoning and butter. With a simple flip of the machine switch, the popcorn was being made. She didn't speak the entire time, no hello, or small talk. Just a quiet tune that she hummed while she made Momo his food, bottle in hand as she occassionally was taking a shot from her glass.

If he was here for a reason, she didn't seem like she was in a hurry to discuss anything, moving at a leisurely stroll that could only be described as floaty in her steps. Every now and then, Xaris's eyes lingered on the cloaked woman, a bit of curiosity there, but she was in no rush to make Momo do anything. If anything, she more so seemed to appreciate his presence, if nothing more than him being part of only fond memories she had in her younger years. Perhaps, that was why she felt no need to say hellos or goodbyes to him, merely letting him move as he pleased wherever that was. He deserved to be in the light, an inspiration to the youth. She was and would always be in the shadows.

Ding! The popcorn began to overflood the booth of the machine, filling up the entirety of the case with so much popcorn that the Moomba probably would have to barrel through many buckets just to finish it off. With that, she simply opened the booth door for him, letting the popcorn flood out into the buckets, filling them up quickly.

Ah, how his friends knew him so well. So little of these unnecessary manners required. He took a bucket of popcorn and practically poured half of it into his mouth he then hopped over to his companion and handed her the half empty bucket before bounding back over for another bucket of food. Now this time he actually emptied the bucket before running over to his dark gothic friend. "Xaris! Xaris! Sit! Show! Show!" He pleased, pushing the woman back into a chair before taking center stage.

And what began next was... oh, what could only be described as what was likely a half hour one moomba pantomime show with the occassional broken english to clarify certain concepts. How the main character faked her death, became a nurse, fell in love and settled down with what was a enemy soldier, adopted a kid, had a kid, and basically how both her adopted kid and husband had been kidnapped by "Gal-BAD-ia!". Complete with a interlude for more popcorn consumption.

After the show, Momo began to do a mock march like he had done making fun of whoever was giving orders in their B.I.E. days. "Mission, I have. I choose you. Find and save! Family!" He slammed one oversized moomba paw into another for emphasis, before looking at his guest. "Also, no be mad Xaris. But I bring surprise!" He bounced in front of his guest and spread his arms like he was revealing a car on TV, something that seemed quite well practiced actually as the woman finally unveiled herself.

Saida

Status: Quiet.
Location: Before Old Friends.
____________________________________________________
The woman had matured, and even begun to age. But twenty something years would do that to anyone, or at least most of them. Though perhaps keeping the white hair all of those years didn't change her appearance all that much. Xaris had barely seemed to age at all, and perhaps at one point Saida may have been jealous, but unlike Momo, she had paid attention to what was playing. That Xaris had been drinking. She may have kept her youth, but what she valued seemed to be distant. It hurt to see her old friend like this, and she couldn't imagine what a double whammy it would be to reveal herself like this but... she needed help.

Maris was gone. But Xaris and Momo were still here. The Moomba was easy to approach, but she had never known how to reach out to Xaris. So she never did. She never wanted to hurt her again, but Saida had to admit to herself she needed her help.

"Hey."

She followed her friend, drawn back to her seat by his excited anticipation of a performance. It had been a long time since she’d witnessed his expressive flair, and initially, she found herself entertained. But as he unfolded the narrative, a cold dread began to creep in. Her smile faltered, twisting into a grimace as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. Her gaze drifted towards the cloaked figure, and as Momo pleaded with her not to be angry, the hood fell. Despite the years etched upon Saida's face, Xaris knew it was her, those eyes, unchanged.

For a searing instant, she was back at the mansion, the chaos of gunfire and explosions, guardian forces clashing in a violent ballet of power, all for the sake of a child. She remembered the orders, the agonizing command to Diablos, unleashing gravija, the brutal sacrifice. Then, the retreat, Saida remaining behind. Maris had been forced to knock Xaris unconscious, preventing her from a suicidal rescue attempt. When she awoke, Saida was pronounced dead, vanished without a trace, leaving no body, no closure, only a gaping wound.

And now, here she stood, before her. Not only alive, but thriving, with a family of her own, never once reaching out. A metaphorical spike pierced her heart. Xaris had moved on, had a child of her own, but her marriage had crumbled, unable to fill the emotional void left by the war. Nights of passion could never mend the loss she sustained. She was a hollow woman, her capacity for deep feeling diminished, her morality now dictated by logic and the needs of Mai, her daughter. That was all she lived for, and now, even that felt threatened. She set her glass down, then, in a deliberate act of defiance, took a long, hard swallow from the bottle, letting out a harsh gasp. Rising slowly, her face, once a mask of shock, became a chilling void. Her voice, barely a whisper after a hesitant breath, cut through the air: "Who am I saving?" That was all she could manage. Anything more might have been venomous, and she wouldn't let this visit become a betrayal of Momo's loyalty. He, at least, had never asked anything of her. She would give him this one favor, this one act of calculated indifference, for him.

Saida

Status: Thawed Queen.
Location: Theater of a Friend.
____________________________________________________
That was it, huh? A hard drink to chase swallowing the hard truth of Saida having survived all of this time. She could see Xaris putting the mask back on, and that was fair. She wouldn't ask, yet, look into it. Qamar didn't expect forty questions yet, but could only ponder if that would come through some back ground network of information laundering instead of a conversation. But her wandering thoughts were quieted when she spoke.

Again, no greeting, no pleasantry. The Ice Queen knew that her friend was deep in her feelings, but it had been so long, she did not what to say or do to soften the impact. So it would have to stay business for now. Her old persona clicking back into place despite the request betraying the reality of her new life.

"My husband, Isaac." Her face didn't show it, but if it wasn't for the situation she was in, she wouldn't have brought up such things when obviously Xaris was wallowing in her loneliness. "And our daughter, Robin." Individually each name may not have set off any alarms, but as a pair it had to bring up some more memories of the old days. While Saida did not remember any time where she had run up against the man, the war did continue without her, and Isaac was one of the front line thugs for the Unbroken.

Isaac had been no leader. He was muscle. Sort of like some of the younger SeeD, like Eren. She had always avoided talking about most of those days with him. He may have faced Xaris, and that was something she had no idea about. Worse was that identity led straight to Robin, one of the more well known new generation of SeeD, and that may rub her the wrong way as she's pretty sure the last mission her daughter went on was oppositional to Xaris'.

"I need help finding them." Saida too had largely been muscle back in the day. Xaris, Salem and Maris largely doing most of the information aspects of their job.

Isaac and Robin... Two names both very familiar to Xaris, her career practically required it. She was much more intimately aware of Isaac as a person, though the fact that she was so close to the man that would later win the heart of Saida, while she played her role within the Unbroken, brought an almost bitter humor to the whole situation. If she wasn't containing her emotions, she probably would have laughed at the whole thing. Then her thoughts shifted to Robin, a slight glare forming as she recalled it was this woman who hospitalized Mai.

She was silent, the alcohol starting to kick in now that she had consumed the entire bottle. A hand gently ran across her face, covering an eye as she tried to contain her anger. "I'm already losing Mai... and you want me to save the woman who hospitalized her." A second spike to the heart, to be put in this position. Her lips were breaking that cold exterior, quivering in a mixed contortion of anger, shame, and overwhelming sense of sadness that could not be understated.

She lowered her hand from her head, reaching into her jacket pocket to pull out a pack of cigarettes, fingers shaking as she did her best to keep her composure. She moved away from them, taking a seat back down as she inhaled her cigarette sharply, burning through it halfway before she even exhaled. A huge cloud of smoke left her lips. She needed a minute to think. Her eyes racing back and forth as she excrutiatingly processed the pros and cons of humoring such a request. It was a war going on within her, Saida and even the oblivious Momo could see their old squadmate devolve into her mind, eyes flaring as she coldly calculated every possible outcome that could come from this. When the cigarette finally was nothing more than the butt, Xaris finally broke the silence.

"What's one more body then." She decided, as she slowly rose up from her seat and began to make her way out of her theater door, her security guard fearfully stepping back as he noticed her expression. "Ma-am?" "Bring me my combat gear. All of it." She ordered, causing the man to look a little concerned for a moment, as if he wanted to question and even deny her request, but, regiment and trust was instilled into him, and thus, he did not question, leaving her as she stood there, back facing the two in the room, silently staring at the wall in front of her. A portrait, of her and her daughter. Her eyes didn't seem to leave it.
