Nectaris had, as promised, wasted absolutely no time in recruiting Promethei to the cause. He was pretty on board with it, too, and since time was of the essence here, they were out looking for anyone who could give them information the first night that neither of them had to work.

Obviously, she'd filled him in on as much as she could about what had happened, so he knew about the people who they were looking for, especially about that mirror senshi and his weird face changing abilities.

That didn't mean that there wasn't time for gossip once they were out walking around, though.

"I wouldn't have messed with Albite's eyes if he'd stayed with me," she was saying, sounding a little bit dejected about it. Was she over Albite? Yeah. She was supposed to be. Was all of this new Faustite stuff kinda dragging up the old feelings? Also yes.

"Like, even if weird stuff happened and I forgot about him. I can prove it, 'cause that literally happened, and did I mess with his face? No. I tried to make it work."

She sighed grumpily, still keeping an eye on the streetlamp-lit sidewalks.

"But no. I'm not as good as Faustite. I'll never be as good as Faustite. It's, like, stupid."

"Albite's thing seems to be a hierarchial polyamory kind of situation." Promethei, personally, was not a fan of hierarchy in his polyamory. He wouldn't knock it for the people it worked for, but for him, he didn't quite see the point.

It also sounded like Albite had just expected everyone to accept this was the way it worked and to be alright with that. That, in itself, was dysfunctional. "But he basically worshipped the ground Faustite stood on from your wording. The payback being a hole in the face is shitty." He snorted. "Not that I support Albite," was his clarification, flicking a wrist toward his chest as his twang kicked up. "He's a highly dysfunctional lost cause. But still, what a whole damn shitshow. He had better choices!"

Promethei gestured up and down Nectaris to illustrate his point.

"Clearly!"

Not that he particularly wanted Nectaris barking up that tree, anyway.

"Maybe if we run into him some reminders are in order." Promethei pinched the bridge of his nose. "Which, speaking of. The other guy you mentioned, the mirror one? Your description sounds faintly familiar. Think I might've ran into him before, maybe."

Maybe that could give him more to start in on.

Nectaris considered for a moment, but ended up squinting again. "If it's hierarchical, aren't you supposed to, y'know, talk about that? Get consent or buy in or whatever?"

They were starting to get out of the quiet streets and into an area with brighter neon signs and a few more people around. They still weren't in a full on nightlife district, this was more, like, upscale bars, but in a few more streets over they would get to where more of the clubs and stuff were.

Warm light from the Amber Dragon washed over her as she sighed, twisting her lips against memories from years ago.

"I mean, I guess it's different when you're a new relationship and they've been a thing forever, but. I dunno. I guess people just see me as dump and ace and I couldn't possibly want anything serious?" A part of her wished she could remember how things had been between them before she'd purified. She had vauge ideas, but it was hard to know for sure. She doubted he'd fully taken her seriously, though

Afterwards, it had honestly been even more toxic for both of them.

"I'd almost be justified, poking a hole in him at this point." She jammed the tips of her crescent moon into a crack in the sidewalk to prove a point, then pulled it out with a frown. "Although I'm also trying to have him keep an eye on Fulg for me, so maybe not?"

Everything was complicated.

"What is it about Faustite, though? Like every dude in Chaos just seems infatuated with him.'

She glanced back to Promethei, suddenly glad he was the one she'd decided to bring along. "You're a disaster gay, right?" She said it shamelessly. He'd told her as much, and also, like, the dude had three husbands. "Do you see it at all?"

"You are! It's important everyone involved knows where your priorities are and what each individual relationship means to you." Promethei was familiar with the Amber Dragon to its own degree; he had set clubs he preferred, but that didn't mean he wandered from time to time. Sometimes he wanted something different! A bit of spice, if he would.

Promethei didn't think that Albite necessarily considered much outside of himself even if he acted like he did. Something of an illusion of pretending to care when really all he wanted was the thought he was caring. He was caring about them, totally! That was why he warned Nectaris he was eventually going to kill her, right?

Caring.

His gaze slipped over to Nectaris as she stabbed the sidewalk, offering her a bit of applause with a grin. "Look, I'd support you! Is he even getting anywhere with Fulg?" Was anyone? "No point in holding back if it's not even working. Or maybe it'd be a kick in his a** if getting stabbed by his apparent priority relationship didn't already do that."

His tongue slid over his lips.

"Also, you're not dumb. You are ace, but not dumb."

He was nowhere near ace himself, but he did understand it-

Just like the Faustite thing. At being called out for being a disaster, his laugh was a bark loud enough it attracted attention momentarily. He didn't care. "I mean, for myself? Hell no. But I can explain what I see," Promethei winked. "He's a powerful gay man, a powerful twink at that, and that has a lot of appeal on its own, whether it be the power, the looks, the devotion he seems to show considering how much he and his whole team seem to be a very cohesive unit..."

He shrugged.

"There's also something to be said about the queer attraction to monsters. It's a whole psychological thing. Faustite ... was at least monster adjacent."

It didn't take long for the hazy chaos of a Dark Moon aura to enter their periphery. A few minutes later and the door to one of the clubs opened, spilling out music and people to the sidewalk in front of them. A familiar figure walked out, just barely visible between the couple leaning heavily on him as they staggered toward a waiting ride.

For his part, Hybris hadn't noticed the big Order signatures until he was on the sidewalk, trapped between the barely conscious lovebirds that were, during the day, in his dance class. At night? They could afford to give his wraiths a little snack. Looking up and past a shoulder, he glanced up and locked eyes with the Fairy Knight and smiled. Then noticed...

Mercury daddy?

Bending down to help both girls into Lyft and give the driver a few assurances, Hybris straightened up, glanced both ways down the street and back toward the club. Should he run? No. the fairy knight was nice. Well. Maybe not to nega-ribs? Or maybe just not to Faustites, as she had seemed to recognize him.

After a moment of consideration he finally just lifted his hands a little, palms up and empty, and slowly walked toward the two. Hybris greeted them with cautious cheer, "Fairy Knight, Mercury daddy! I have been very good tonight and will happily leave if you'd rather I wasn't here."

"I dunno," she said with a shurg about Albite and Faustite. She'd used to get all upset when her second ex's name came up, but it was getting to the point now where it wasn't as painful to talk about him. She still wished she could do something for him, but, well. Time and distance had done it's work with her heartbreak, she guessed.

"I haven't really seen them in a while."

She was listening, instead, to Promethei's analysis of Faustite's hotness, and honestly it seemed like he might be up to something. It did raise some questions for her, like, if I'm short, and I end up being, like, the in charge one, does that make me like Faustite?

She was, however, freezing and tugging at his sleeve before she could ask about that, 'cause, like, that was the dude they were looking for, right there. Well, one of the options. The mirror fiance. He was alone, too. She didn't feel any Negaverse auras. She was a little worried about the girls with him, but they seemed to be getting into an Uber okay, so she didn't dwell on that.

Instead she waved, smiling back. "Hi!" she said. "No, you can come join us. You'd probably be interested in what we're talking about, anyway. Like, literally. You walked up to us while we were trying to figure out why people think Faustite is hot."

Time and distance always tended to make heartbreak easier. It wasn't too surprising that she seemed mostly unbothered by the conversation at this point, even though he knew how badly it hurt her when head first started happening. After all, he had been there for that!

But Fulgurite had faded like a lot of agents did. Maybe he had died. Promethei had no idea, and honestly, with Albite's hyperfocus on the Twink Formerly on Fire who took His Eye Out, he wasn't sure Albite would know either. Wasn't like same level people could summon each other, right?

She cut off her further questions with a tug on his sleeve, and when he turned, Promethei couldn't help the smirk that curled his lips.

How convenient.

He waited, patiently, for the mirror fiancé apparent to walk up to them and address them. Mercury Daddy was a new one, but he would take it. He would also take the apparent words that he was on good behavior. Did Promethei fully believe him?

No.

But he did just help two people into an uber, so at the very least if he had drained them, he hadn't taken so much that they were fully unconscious. It wasn't ideal, but it was enough for him to take it considering he needed the information.

"Faustite, right?" Promethei shifted his weight from one leg to the other, moving his beaker along with. "Your fiancé now, is he? You gotta find him hot I'd imagine. Even if not literally anymore."

Ball was in ... Hybris' court.

The friendly greeting was promising and...the topic of conversation was way too personally enticing. Eyebrows raised and smile dimpling up into something much much more boyish and sincere, Hybris nodded. "Well. Certainly."

Maybe tonight, he'd be the one taking home the better story.

And then he laughed and gestured to the club he'd just left, Juicy Fruits, with a small bow, "Over drinks? My treat." As much as he loved chatting on sidewalks, shady alleyways, and in parks...well, he didn't, actually.

Proper gossip needed drinks and comfortable seating.

Nectaris looked at Hybris. She looked at Promethei. She looked at the bar. If Encke was here, she was pretty sure he’d be saying something about risk and enclosed spaces and Chaos boys or whatever.

“Yeah, okay,” said Nikki, bouncing forward on her toes. “Let’s go get some drinks.”

She wasn’t about to start listening to her brother all the time.

“Do you think they have, like, actual good fruit stuff in there?” She asked, even as she was already skipping towards the shiny lights. For a bar, it was pretty promising, but bars were bars. She looked at Hybris, not seeming tense at all.

“Or just, like, alcohol, which I think more people should admit is the grossest thing ever?”

Juicy Fruits? Promethei's amusement seemed to be kicking up by the moment. It was interesting to consider the fact that the fiance of someone who was considered so dangerous in chaos was someone who also attended unnecessarily decorative places like this one.

Also unnecessarily expensive. If he was really willing to cover whatever they ordered, that gave him some more information without Hybris saying another word.

His gaze shifted to Nectaris.

"Everything they serve is kicked up to the max, including the mocktails and the nonalcoholic drinks in general." He shifted the weapon he held to his other hand, glancing Hybris up and down. To be honest, considering the places he had run into this mirror twink so far, it seemed to be a fitting spot.

Time to test it. They were both knights, this was a super of the dark mirror, they could handle this.

"Alright. If it's on your dime," Promethei gestured toward the entrance, bowing with a gallant flair that he would not normally offer to someone of chaos he wasn't actively charming, "after you."

Nodding as Mr Mercury answered, he led the two past the doorman in a smile and a, They're with me. After a couple years and despite his efforts to keep his hunting grounds randomized, Hybris's near nightly hours of draining had made him something of a regular in more than a few. Fortunately he knew how to be a VIP even without being a VIP, and took care not to cause trouble. Or even solve problems, like making sure a couple silly, stumbling patrons made it out to a ride home rather than trying to drive.

The club was upbeat, kitsch, and expensive as hell once one sidled up to the bar. By the time they settled into a comfortable, secluded booth with a nice view of the dancefloor, Hybris was a hundred dollars poorer. But the drink in front of him was a footlong purple and blue monstrosity interspersed with some kind of pale clouds and layers of glitter. On the plate the drink came on, a pair of sugar cookie knights on horses jousted with wafer thin waffle cones. It came with a pair of silver shutter shades which Hybris immediately put on as he took his seat.

The drink was called, The Starry Knight.

"Well, first off," he began without any further preamble, "the d**k is good, the hands are great, and the mouth is ruthless."

Nectaris, who had grown up on the lowest rung of middle class, couldn't help balking at the price tags in this place. It didn't keep her from ordering, though, while she made some mental notes.

Mirror guy: rich. Faustite: gold digger?

Her virgin Strawberry Fields Forever had fresh strawberries, candy strawberries, and strawberry popping boba. It also had, like, mist coming off of it and was served on a plate of cotton candy shaped like clouds for some reason? She was very sad that she was powered up right now and she couldn't pull out her very distinctive civilian phone to start posting pictures on Instagram.

Instead, she tried taking a sip, but Hybris opened his mouth and her reflex was to gasp and gag, but it didn't work, and suddenly she was choking on very overpriced strawberry lemonade.

She coughed, and coughed again turning five shades of red at the same time. Like, yeah, okay, she'd asked, but also no. No. No. No.

She struggled to catch her breath, then leaned in to rest her forehead on Promethei's fluffy shoulder. "This is why I need you," she said, voice a weak squeak. "Please, like, handle this."

For himself, Promethei wanted to test the limits of absurdity and how much this man was actually willing to spend. He got himself something dubbed the Barrel of Beer, which was a oddly colourful yellow stein with pretzels draped off of it. Clearly, it was intended as a reference to a certain game kids played with monkeys hanging from each other.

To test his luck, additionally, he ordered some beer snacks.

Munching on some beer cheese with pretzels and sipping beer was the perfect complement to the boy hot gossip that, apparently, Faustite was very good in bed. It kicked up a certain perverse curiosity in him. Should he ******** someone of Chaos? Absolutely not. (Ignoring the dozens of times he likely did while Emain Ablach was still deep. He had no idea.)

The descriptions, though, had a way of piquing his curiosity until he felt Nectaris at his side, begging for him to take point on this one. Right. No point in asking for deeper details as much as he wanted to as a local gossip gay-

"Alright, so he ******** good and he knows what he's doing. Considering his notoriety for collecting husbands," Promethei dipped a pretzel into some more beer cheese, "unsurprising unless he's made of money, and I suspect he wasn't."

He swallowed.

The choice of wasn't was intentional.

"What are the draws besides for the fact that he's a great lay? What about this former half-youma draws you in, besides for his mouth doing so physically?"

Hybris was a bit of a professional at observing people, and had grown rather good at being subtle about it. Fairy Knight was clearly intensely uninterested in the physical side of Faustite's love life, even though she was clearly extremely curious about certain aspects of his relationships. Mr. Mercury seemed much more comfortable, but also willing to accommodate his companion.

He seemed to make a point of looking comfortable with this in all manner of ways, actually. There was something in the way he took up space, not simply physically, but in atmosphere. Interesting.

"Well," Hybris drummed his fingers playfully along the side of his glass, "for one, he's an artist. Maybe that's why he's always so keen to see the truth of people, to gently push and pull until they reveal more and more of themselves to him. And then, with devastating accuracy, he uses those lovely lines and colors, all his beautiful words, dug up raw and tumbled fine, to let them know that he loves what he sees."

It was truer than maybe he'd intended at first, which only emphasized the complaining tones of his answer.

"Isn't that really unfair of him?"

With a little huff, Hybris took a deep drink.

Nectaris was very, very glad that Promethei was there to handle the sexier parts of the conversation. She could do a lot of things for the sake of information, but talking about that? Too much. That was over the line.

As the mirror senshi kept talking, though, she straightened from where she'd been trying to hide in Promethei's fluffy coat. She was back to her usual bubbly self as quick as she'd wilted, actually, because now he was saying stuff that she had not been expecting. Like, at all.

She put her nervous energy into chewing on her straw, and then, as soon as she could get a word in edgewise, she said, "Wait."

She gave it a properly dramatic pause.

"You're saying he's nice to you?"

This was new. This was weird, this was like, literally mind blowing. She shook her head, leaned back in her chair, and took a sip of her drink while she tried to process what was happening.

"Huh," she said. "That's so weird."

Then she was leaning in, elbows on the table, 'cause she could give some gossip while she was here, too. It wasn't like it was anything the Negaverse didn't already know.

"Did you know the very first time he met, he tried to burn my skin off? And, not even, like, in an 'I'm your enemy' way, more like, in a 'I hate your guts' kind of way." Her eyes were sparkling. It had been a rough fight, but she was happy enough to talk about it. "To be fair, I was arguably trying to steal his boyfriend at the time, it was a weird situation, but still. He can be nice?"
