Designing things wasn’t something he was unfamiliar with, he did it all the time for his projects, but this was different. This was designing a watch and he’d never done that before. He didn’t know enough about all the parts that were needed, and what could be subbed in for other things, he hadn’t a clue. The only thing he knew was a leather band and he wanted it skeletal, he wanted to see the gears and mechanics from the outside, Kinsey also wanted to use the scales he’d brought back. How they’d be used…he wasn’t entirely sure. He was leaving that to Luciana as she knew far more about watches than he did.
In an effort to learn more, and because he really wanted to participate in the creation of the two watches, he’d settled into a chair in her shop to help in whatever manner he could while watching and asking questions when they came to him. There was no better way to learn than this, to watch from start to finish the creation of a watch, or two.

Sitting at the worktable, Luciana had fresh paper settled out and set up with a guide for measurements and scale ready. The parts list, as well as a few scales, were set out as well, something she was comfortable with now that Kinsley was here and the store was closed and locked up for the night. It would be bothersome to be interrupted, especially since this would be her first time seeing how the boy approached design work.
Making sure what little of her short hair could be tied back, was tied back, she then adjusted the large work light to get a better angle for them both to see with. One page was already full with a few variations of the inner workings of the watches, something she knew wouldn’t change much, but would be good for the other to see if he was going to be helping more in the shop. There was at least a foundation of understanding, something she had been working with, but with the increase in customers, it was starting to look like she would actually need an assistant.
Tapping the drafting pencil against the page, she looked between the materials and the boy across the work table. “Where to start? It’s almost like mother of pearl in a way, but less fragile.” It had been harder for her to work in finer details with normal tools for the material, so she’d need to get creative.

“That’s why I thought it might look good. Not flashy but still something unexpected. I’ve seen watches in jewelry stores that have mother of pearl.” The common shops in the mall and such, of course, and while this material was similar it was infact different and unique. If it was, as she said, more durable that was a bonus in his book. Since it looked so similar though no one would think twice of it when they saw the watches, which was good, he didn’t want people asking and having no right answer to give.
“So explain each design to me and which you think is the best, or what each is best for? Bearing in mind I’d like a skeleton complication.” As he knew they used the term complication for various extra features, even if they were simple appearance changes like skeleton was. He did like that though…to see the inner workings and the movement of the parts. This was a nice project for him, something to sink his teeth into and learn about, it would produce two unique and one of a kind watches as well. Something no one would reproduce, due to the materials used, but also it would be something more…adult in a sense.
His models, and various other projects, didn’t come off as adult where as this did. This was something he could wear and use in day to day life. Something that would convey some sort of message to people. It could even become a job.

With a nod, she started to loosely sketch up a few ideas, some with inlays of only a bit of the material and others with the full face being made of it. It seemed interesting enough, but for both, she was going to attempt to replace the crystal she usually used for timing with a bit of it, considering how it seemed to feel like it had power of some sort. For the skeleton complication type, that was a bit more difficult as she worked back and forth with the sketch, erasing and redoing it as they watched. "I can see about something like that, but until we cut the material, I have no clue how stable it is with it being cut thin enough for that, but I may be able to do something modified." Sketching that up instead so that only half the facing allowed for interior viewing, she tapped the end of her pencil against the paper as she picked up one of the scales and examined it against the light. It was an otherworldly sort of thing, which left her with more questions and curiosities about how sturdy and useful it was, but considering the thing it had come from had taken more than a few hits, she felt that something encased in glass and metal should be fine enough.

"What kind of device are you going to be using for cutting it? Water, laser, or something else? Something small and more hands on so you have more control over it?" As far as he figured had pros and cons. He could see how machines, and computers, guiding the cutting might be better as it could be more precise and finer - thiner pieces. But it wouldn't be ther to see and feel if the material was going to give, and couldn't be cut, so it could save the material from being ruined as well.
Looking over someones shoulder was normally rude, he didn't like when someone peeked over his own shoulders, but here he was peeking over Luciana's shoulder as she sketched. It looked good, even the things she would erase, but that was because he liked the ideas she had which would showcase the moving gears inside the watch. As someone who liked to build he liked seeing how things worked, all the moving parts, so seeing it come to life on paper and knowing it would be made real filled him with an odd sort of warmth. Something like pride...
"Whatever you do for the end design I know it'll turn out good." Better than good, he knew it, he knew whatever came of this project it woulld be special. While he felt good about it, warm inside even, he did question just how good he felt...or happy and how real those feelings were. It wasn't new for him to wonder if what he was feeling was real, he often questioned his emotions and how legit they were, because it always somehow came off as acting...as putting himself up and telling himself how he felt or how he shouod fell. Kinsey often told himsellf he was happy, rather than actually being happy, and even on occasion smiled because you should do that when you were happy. But he could turn the smile off so easily, keep a stright face, and the happy feeling just went away as if it had never been there - and it never had really. And so it always had himm questioning evey little thing he felt...was it him feeling what he should feel or was the feeling real and there not because it should be but rather because it just waqs - because he felt it. It was all so confusing...
It was also all his families fault. He hated them more because of it, though did he even have it in himself to hate them? Because he just felt empty and blank. He knew he should hate them, knew most would if they were in his place, but did it even bother him anyway? He just ignored eve4rything and moved on...took it all and lived with it. So now...he didn't hate - he couldn't feel it.
He couldn't feel good right now either...and the warmth? He wasn't sure on that. But he did know facts and he knew these watches would be good; they'd be special.
"I can't wait till these start taking form." Because he'd like to see the process from start to finish.

"Always hands-on for something this small and unknown. Can't have it breaking or damaging my machines, considering what it came from." With a bit more sketching, she tweaked a few things and started to work on the rough ideas of the internal mechanisms as he spoke. It was easier now to work with someone talking or sitting so close, probably because they weren't bothering her where it really mattered. Seeing him in her periphery, she noticed something so very slight on his face. It had happened a few times, something seeming to slip or pause as they thought. They never spoke about it, though, and as long as it didn't keep him from working for her, she didn't really care too much, but something was going on behind that face. "It'll take some time considering all the things I need to plan out, but I'm certain it'll be worth the wait."
