Along the edges of the Great Hall, the long student tables have been pushed, all containing a variety of foods, from tea sandwiches and other finger foods to extravagant desserts. Fresh flowers are interspersed around the tables, adding color to the otherwise festive looking food. There are also bowls of punch and several pitchers of various drinks, all for guests to pick between.

Olivia had originally planned not to attend the dance since she assumed that it wasn't going to be anything that she'd like to attend. No one had asked her either and it wasn't until Roxie had mentioned not having a date either that the brunette suggested, if Roxie really wanted to go, Olivia could accompany her. They were best friends after all and she didn't want Roxie to go to the shindig alone. Plus, it was Roxie's last year and Liv really wanted to spend all the time she could with her bestie. So she'd gone home with the idea for a super gothic princess feel. Her mom helped her pick out a dress and she got a bunch of rose themed jewelry to accompany it. Since they weren't going as a date, but as friends, Liv wasn't worried about matching Roxie's outfit. It was going to be pink anyway and Liv wasn't as big a fan of the color as her best friend was. She did find a red and black dress that looked stunning on her. It wasn't her usual style, but she had to evolve and adapt, especially when they made it big with the band.
Getting dressing in the common room, Liv headed down to the Great Hall where a majority of the festivities were taking place. They hadn't planned a meeting time, so after looking around and not seeing Roxie yet, Liv gravitated over to a snack table. One thing you could trust about Liv was that she couldn't pass up a good snack. She snagged herself a few finger foods, glad that the blood red lipstick she had opted for was non-smear. She'd practiced with this lipstick before, seeing what it could take before it'd get messed up, and it was a lot. Huffing a sigh, she leaned against the wall, snacking on some food and watching all the happy couples starting to peter into the Great Hall. Despite having a ton of friends, she had no meaningful romantic entanglements this year. Everything had seemed to flop for her in that respect. It wasn't like she wasn't jealous of her friends in relationships... but she was kind of jealous of her friends in relationships... Why could they be happy but she wasn't?

There was absolutely no way Roxanne was missing this. A formal ball in her final year of school?! She would throw her NEWTs studying out the literal window if it meant she could go! Besides, her brother had not-so-subtly bribed her to keep an eye on Tsia. Then again, Tsia was going with Benji, and (unlike his sister) Benji was a really good kid. Besides, there wasn't too much trouble they could get up to here. Roxie had helped her niece with a cute hairdo that continued covering the side of her face as she always insisted was done.
She put on her dress, did her hair up in an intricate braided updo, then got her accessories on. She was supposed to be spending time with Liv, but by the time she finished hers and Tsia's prep, her bandmate was already gone from the Common Room. Roxie led her niece over to the Ravenclaw Common Room door, then she hurried down the stairs. She walked into the Great Hall, gasping at the beauty.
Thankfully, it was still pretty early, so it was easy to find Liv over by the snack table. "Liv! Look at you! Oh my goodness, that dress is lovely!" It was a gothic dream, for sure, but it really suited her friend. Roxie's own dress was intricate, though it showed her legs without being less than floor-length. "Have you heard from Jo yet? Or Flick? I haven't seen either, but hopefully they'll be along soon. Ooh, hand me one of those macarons, wouldja? They look lovely." There was always time for snacks!

Adi had been getting pretty frustrated with trying to get himself ready. Thankfully, Seb was able to hear his struggles and come to the rescue. What a good lad. They secured his bracers over a pair of shorts, then he pulled on his dress slacks. Once done, Seb made sure he was able to wobble solo again. Once he got agreement, Adi went back to working on getting dressed. Persephone had channeled her inner Greek Spring Goddess thing for her outfit, and his biggest job was to match. Thankfully, the color scheme was pretty easy to match. Besides, he wanted her to be the star, not him. Once he was dressed and ready, he grabbed his walker and made his way downstairs. He was nervous about fully not having it, especially with the eleven thousand stairs between him and the dance.
Eventually, he made it, then decided to wait by the food table. His walker was carefully folded and leaned against a table, where hopefully it wouldn't be in anyone's way. It was really weird to be standing without support, but thankfully, he could keep a hand pressed firmly on the table. At least it wasn't as awkward as practicing walking and dancing without the extra support. But at least Seb had been a champ? His mismatched eyes scanned the Great Hall, hoping to spot Persephone. He'd thought the food tables were a little less crowded, so hopefully they'd be able to spot one another!

When Jazz heard about a big school dance, they'd been worried they wouldn't really be able to fit in. Their fanciest clothes were their school uniforms, after all. But, they reached out to mum, who came up with a plan. Jazz wasn't really sure how it'd happened, but a few days before the big dance, Jazz got a package with a cute blazer and a nice blouse. It had been really hard to decide between more typically "boy" clothes or a poofy dress, but there was a nice middle ground, apparently. Jazz had asked Roxie for help styling their outfit, and the older girl had been super kind in helping.
Jazz had asked Hattie to go along with them, and was glad their friend said yes. They were planning to meet up near the snacks table, which was very much on brand for Hattie. Jazz skipped down the stairs with excitement. After asking Bee where the snacks were, the second year hurried into the Great Hall. They didn't see Hattie yet, but hopefully she'd be here soon! Jazz grabbed a cookie to nibble on, standing on tiptoes to try and find their friend.

Instead of dates for the big dance, most of the Abrams and Heulwen families were going at a little group. Of course, Rey had a date, and Mea was quite proud of her for it. She seemed happy and Finn was kind, so it seemed good for them both. The other four had decided to meet up by the snacks, because... would it really be their family if not for snacks?
At some point, they'd have to find Rey to get a big family picture (per mum's rules!), but otherwise, the night was theirs. Walking into the Great Hall, Mea cringed a bit at the noise. The past month or so, noises had been becoming extra loud, while also being echoey. Sometimes, he'd unfortunately have a screeching noise that drove him to migraines. He had mentioned it over winter break, but he tried to minimize how bad it was so no one else would panic. Of course, this didn't include Rosa, whom he'd complained at more than once. Emerald eyes looked out over the room, waiting on his family to appear.

When Hattie learned that there would be a dance near the end of the school year, she'd initially planned to stay as far away from that as she could. After all, as one of the clumsiest people at the school, that just sounded like it would spell disaster for her. However, Jazzy had asked her to go with them and she simply couldn't say no to her best friend. She'd asked her mom over winter break to get a dress for her and she was opting to wear heels, which sounded like a bad idea for the clumsiest girl at the school. But Hattie had a surprise secret... She was actually less clumsy in heels than in her wellies. It was something about focusing on her feet more in the heels because she was also trying not to break the heels. It would also be a good time for Hattie to break out another secret... she had contacts as well. Hattie had borrowed some of her mother's jewelry to match her dress so that way she looked really fancy for the dance.
The morning of the dance, Hattie spent over two hours getting her contacts in. Each time she tried to apply them, she dropped them or missed her eye. One time when she dropped her contact, she banged her head on the desk on her way back up, then fell backwards when she clutched her head. After much fuffing and cursing though, she finally managed to get the contacts in. Then it was just a matter of getting her dress on, which was much harder than it should have been. Hattie fell over no less than three times before she was finally dressed. Once she stepped into her shoes though, it was like she became grace personified. Making sure her jewelry was straight, Hattie checked the clock and nodded. She headed on down to the snack table, which was their designated meeting spot, spotting Jazzy up on her tippy toes looking for her. Hattie waved and squeezed between two older students walking over to Jazzy. "Jazzy ye keek mae braw th'day. A richt dapper laddie," Hattie said, smiling widely at her best friend.

(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ Rosa had been practically dreaming about this whole event ever since it got announced and now that it was finally here, she almost felt like she hadn't been enough time! Finding a dress, practicing make up and hair, hiding every sweater vest Mea could possibly get his fingers on and daring his roommates to say anything, it was just so much! It also didn't help that she'd maybe had a tad too much fun helping Rey as she got ready for her actual capital d Date for the ball with completely unhidden glee.
The teen fully admitted she was jealous of her cousin growth in a love life, mostly in that her brothers were normal and mostly well adjusted. The last time she'd spoken a boy's name in Lewis' presence he'd somehow come to find their house, school schedule, club meetings, blood type...it had been bad. And that's without adding her nosy noodly dad! Rosa hadn't thought about getting a date for the ball, mostly because she really didn't have her eyes on any one person she'd want to go with but also mostly so she could keep a closer eye on her best friend. Mea had been constantly griping about his earring practically all year but it seemed like every time she so much as opened her mouth to suggest he tell his mums, suddenly everything was fine. For like five minutes. She just sighed as she double checked that the curls she didn't want out were pinned in place and that her eyeliner hadn't smudged in the last ten seconds since she last checked it before making her way towards the Great Hall.
Rosa marveled at the decorations and all the colorful flowers, totally making a mental note to give Bieito his full well earned admiration for the work he and Charlotte did for this. It took her a few moments, but she finally found Mea waiting at the snack tables (absolute perfection) and made her way over to him. "The food looks good! Fancy but like, not so fancy that I'm afraid to touch it, yknow?" she giggled looking over the different platters. She also turned to her cousin to sign "I brought you some headphones in case things get too loud."

Morwenna hadn't been asked by anyone to the dance, but she was still quite intent on attending since she absolutely loved flowers. When her family had taken them dress shopping, Tegen had found a dress she loved, but it was more than the budget for dresses allowed. Wenn, being the good big sister, gave up her dress budget so that Tee could get the dress she wanted. Wenn then opted to wear her mother's wedding gown, since the two were about the same height. Tee was excited for the dance because her friends OneN and Bryn were going to be there, which was the exact same reason Wenn was going, except with Rosa and Mea. And who knew, maybe Wenn would get to dance with someone too. On the day of the dance, Morwenna brought her stuff down to the Hufflepuff Common Room so that the sisters could get ready together. They helped each other with their makeup and dresses, then got their accessories on. Wenn's hair was done up in a bun with her hair cascading down her back, whereas Tee's hair was done in a fishbone braid that hung over her shoulder.
Once the girls were both dressed, they headed out to the dance to meet up with their friends. Morwenna was wearing shoes, which would likely be a surprise to her friends and Tegen had little heels on, so she was a little closer in height to her sister. Wenn spotted Mea and Rosa together, so she led the way over there. "Hello Meallan and Rosa! You both do look just lovely, innit!" She beamed at her friends while Tee glanced around for her friends. Sure, Mea and Rosa were also her friends, but they were more her sister's friends, while she was friends with the younger Abrams and Heulwen. Giving up on her search, Tee turned back to the gathered friends and asked, "Hey Mea, Rosa. Are OneN an' Bryn 'ere yet? Or 'ave they gone out? She shifted a little uncomfortably, her heels clicking on the stone floor as she fiddled with the butterfly necklace that she was wearing. Tegen didn't want to seem rude, but she did want to find the younger ones so that they could hang out too.

Meallan was busy fiddling with the dials on his hearing aids when Rosa appeared beside him. She commented on the food looking fancy, and he nodded. He offered her a grin, then noticed her signing. "I hope they won't be needed. I brought the case to my ears in case I have to take them off. It gets extra loud in crowds." He signed back, smile faltering for a split second. He offered his cousin a pink macaron. "Bee made these, I think. They're good."
As more people walked over, Mea was expecting it to be their younger siblings, but it was Morwenna and Tegen. He smiled over at the sisters, nodding when Morwenna said they looked fancy. "You both look lovely as well," He nodded, thinking all three girls looked really fancy. Sure, he was in his fancy clothes, but he thought he looked less fancy than they did. Tee seemed more concerned with the younger group, asking where Wen and Bryn were.
oOoOoOoOoOo
Wen was running a little behind. He was trying to make his messy hair look... somewhat less... messy. Plus he was trying to make sure both he and Bryn were feeling capable of managing their stress. He tried a few moments to get his bowtie on, but he wasn't actually sure how to tie it. Once he was ready, save for that, he offered a hand to his cousin. He knew that Bryn would want to leave as fast as he could, but he wanted to get some time there.
As they walked into the Great Hall, Wen spotted his sister first, then led the way over. She was standing with Mea, Wenn (but with 2 n's), and Tee. "Hey guys! Sorry we're behind. We were having a snack and also trying to tie up... ties." Wen laughed, but he looked a little surprised when Mea stepped over and tilted his cousin's chin back. The older boy tied the bow tie in record time, then pat Wen on the shoulder. Wen tapped his chin, letting his fingers fall forward in a gesture of thanks. He looked over at his friends, grinning happily. "You guys look super fancy too! We're all so dapper!" He nodded, nudging Tee's arm. The Penroses looked super fancy, or perhaps it was because he'd already seen his sister's outfit. It was just a shame they didn't have Lewis and Su to complete their ensemble!

As people wandered into the Great Hall, Jazz was watching with bright eyes. They were all so pretty! Everyone with their fluttery dresses and their formal suits all looked so fancy. It made Jazz feel a little under dressed, but they knew their parents couldn't afford a super fancy outfit. They waved over at Vikram when they spotted him, glad he looked happy on his date.
It was then that Jazz noticed Hatie walking over, looking extra fancy. "W-wow! Y-you l-look super f-fancy!" Though Jazz was a little blushy when Hattie said they looked like a dapper lad. Jazz tipped their head up a bit, realizing their heights were a little off. "A-are you w-wearing heels? I-is that safe?" They laughed, offering out both their hands to hold Hattie's. They were pretty used to her wobbles, so perhaps they could just hold hands and be fine.
Even Persephone was in awe of herself right now. She had decided that she was going to go all into this ball. After all, it was like a celebration of spring, and she was named for the goddess of spring. Why not go for it? Both her dress and her hair were dripping in flowers. All she could think about was how excited she was for Adi to see her like this. That was a strange feeling for her, but she actually didn’t mind it. Ever since he’d asked her to the ball, the very thought of it made her giddy with excitement. He was just so…awesome. A lot more than that, but he somehow made her short on words. Which was, in itself, impressive. She was rarely unable to come up with something to say.
Once she was sure every detail was perfect, she made her way out of the common room and up the stairs. She found herself biting into her bottom lip slightly as she approached the doors to the Great Hall. There was a spot of nerves in her stomach that she’d been ignoring up until this point but now she had to face them head on. He was probably in there waiting for her. She took a deep breath. There wasn’t anything scary about it. It was Adi. She liked Adi. A lot. That was the scary bit. She shook her head a final time and made her way through the doors.
The Great Hall was already full of people moving this way and that. She stood by the doors for a moment (subconsciously trying to look as ethereal as possible) and managed to spot Adi near the snack table. A smile immediately came to her face. She walked to him, beaming all the while. He looked great. When she came to stand in front of him, she inclined her head and knees slightly in almost a bow. “Well, hello,” she said with a small, lilting laugh.
Jo didn’t really have some great desire to go to the dance, it really was not her thing, but when it had come up in conversation with Roxie and Liv, she suddenly felt like not going was no longer an acceptable course of action. Unfortunately, she’d let this fact slip to her mother over winter break and the woman, as always, decided she needed to go all out. They’d picked out a dress and surprisingly, her mother had actually let her pick one that was black. Though, Jo supposed the red flowers around the shoulder line had managed to convince her it was acceptable. It even sort of fit the garden theme. To her own surprise, Jo had spent several hours making sure her hair and makeup were absolutely perfect. She had to admit. She felt good. Obviously the sort of Old Hollywood look she had going on was out of her norm, but it actually looked amazing. She’d blame it on the veela blood. She supposed looks like this would be helpful if the band were ever invited to award shows and things like that.
She made her way into the Great Hall, suddenly very glad she didn’t have any allergies. It looked like the Head Students had grabbed every flower in the entirety of Scotland and moved them into the Great Hall. She didn’t know either of them super well, but from what she did, it fit. There seemed to be plenty of pink blooms around so at least Roxie was probably enjoying it. She was luckily able to easily spot just the person she’d been thinking of and Liv not too far away. Jo popped out her knee and stuck a hand on her hip. “Wow, Liv. So colorful,” she said, only slightly sarcastically. She couldn’t help a slightly mischievous smile coming to her face.

(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ Rosa sighed as Mea admitted to bringing his ears' case in case he did have to take them out and was totally about to call him out again for his problem when he distracted her with cute food. Blast him. She begrudgingly look a cookie but also made sure to give him a squinty eyed look that screamed "We Will Talk About This" just so he knew she meant Business before taking a bite. Dammit, was there something that Frenchman couldn't do?! As she was about to grab another, she spotted Wenn and her younger sister Tegan coming towards them and only rolled her eyes dramatically as her cousin just told them they looked "lovely."
"Lovely sure, but Wenn you look awesome! That dress fits you like a dream!" she gushed looking over the shapely gown. Ugh, she couldn't wait for her own curves to, yknow, freaking curve. If not for her steadily growing ant bites in the front, she'd be stuck looking like a giant bowtruckle most days! Rosa was about to ask her friend where she even got such a dress (she sure as s**t would've tried to get her mum to at least try it on had she seen it at the shops) when Tegan asked if they'd seen their younger brothers yet. "Sorry Tegan, I haven't seen them yet. They're probably just running late." she assured the young girl. She knew Wen would be doing his best to make sure Bryn wouldn't be too anxious (while hopefully not neglecting himself) so they were probably just trying to wait out the biggest of the crowds.
And as if she'd summoned them, both boys suddenly appeared grinning with matching unmade bowties excusing their tardiness with-of course-snacks. Mea took on the big brother role and quickly made up their ties while she pulled out her hidden camera from her bag to sneak a few candid photos of action. At Wen's exclamation that they all looked fancy, Bryn gave a small nod in agreement as he stared minutely at his other friend.
"I like your necklace, it matches...everything." he quietly complimented Tegan causing Rosa to softly squeal in cuteness. Though apparently not quiet enough from the soft glare the young boy tossed her way which just made her smile widen. He was just so sticken cute! "Keep looking at me like that Brynnie and I'm coming for those cheeks." she teased miming a pinching motion with her fingers. Green eyes widened before the first year gave a soft meep and turned to hide slightly behind his cousin making Rosa laugh more.

As he watched the Hall fill with people, all wearing their fine attire, Adi was feeling at least a little more confident in his attire. All his hours walking around without his walker that few weeks was paying off, though he hoped it lasted through the full dance. He didn't want to disappoint Seph, after all! But when she walked in the room, suddenly he - and everyone else - paled in her comparison. With her floor length gown, she commanded the room... and he couldn't dare take his eyes off her.
She offered a little bow, so Adi stepped closer, collecting both her hands in his. "Wow, Seph... Persephone. I can see why you were named for the Goddess of Spring. No other soul may compare itself to your beauty." Boy, he really hoped that came out suave and not entirely cheesy. Of course, knowing his luck, it was super bad. "I... um... what do you want to do? We can eat or dance or... whatever." He shrugged his shoulders, still a bit nervous about leaving his walking frame behind. Then again, he figured he'd do just about anything to make Seph smile tonight.
