Halia had taken to exploring Aruna in her free time recently, mentally mapping out all of the twists and turns of the almost labyrinthine main structure. She had done well, only getting lost or turned around a few times and always finding her way back by the end. She had come to love the architecture and growth within the place, having come to love the planet as a whole and see it as a place that was now uniquely hers.
Most recently, however, she had been delving into more of the chambers that seemed only accessible to Aruna herself. No traces of others could be seen, only touches that seemed distinctly to be from Aurelia. Little decorations, little personal items, all of it spoke of the former Aruna and none other.
Making her way to the most recent chamber she had began exploring, Halia gently pushed the door open and turned in a slow circle to appraise the room. Deciding to start right at her feet, she started moving debris and cleaning little by little, organizing and restoring the room as best as she could.
Moving a chunk of debris, something glinted and caught her eye, causing her to crouch and investigate. Beneath the rubble she had moved, lay a transparent, soft green crystal pendant. It was oval in shape and had almost a starburst design etched into it, and was strung on a chain with matching beads spaced out along it.
Halia knelt on the ground and gingerly scooped the pendant up, turning it over and over in her fingers as she inspected it. She hadn't found much in the way of trinkets or jewelry outside of Aurelia's chambers, so this seemed odd and out of place to her. Had someone dropped it, perhaps? Had it been misplaced or perhaps fallen from a pocket? The chain seemed to be in one piece, up on further inspection, so it couldn't have fallen off of someone wearing it.
Holding the pendant in her palm as she contemplated it, Halia almost didn't notice the shimmer that formed around it as she played with what seemed to be a transparent cover, almost like a locket. When she did notice it finally, she gasped softly as a hologram style image was projected above the now open pendant. While it was blank at first, little by little it seemed to take shape and form a moving image. Soon, what was displayed in her palm was something utterly familiar. Her first visit to the planet as she remembered it. She could see her own hand, as if it was playing through her own eyes, as she pushed a door open, could hear Murikabushi beside her and see the edge of his sleeve. She stared in awe at the projection as it played the memory out, watching as she saw herself discover Aurelia, or what remained, and heard the startled sound of alarm she had made.
She gently closed the clear case and watched mesmerized as the image dissolved. The pendant has just shown her her own memory, and she was reeling from not only the implications but also the possibilities it now opened. What were the limitations? How far could this magic go? She needed to know, needed to see if anyone had seen something like this before.
Getting to her feet, she brushed herself off and slipped the beaded chain around her neck, tucking the pendant safely within her shirt. Once she was home on earth, she was going to need to make a few important texts and visits. She wanted answers.
