The Caves (5) : To any explorers visiting the new Reservoir, they may find that just a bit away from the sandy water are a set of caves. Some of these connect back to the lake, but others rapidly plunge into darkness. It wouldn't be hard to get lost in here, but thankfully there are some very odd lights to help guide you out. If you turn off your light down some of these dark paths, you may find yourself surrounded by glowing pastel lights. A closer inspection reveals that you seem to be looking at some sort of glowing caterpillars. An internet search will reveal that Destiny City scientists have been researching the strange, unnamed creatures, but the articles are very limited. If you take them out of the cave they seem to shrivel up almost immediately. They're neat, but clearly meant to be stay in their natural habitat.
The Reservoir wasn't a place she frequented too often--sure, it was pretty, and peaceful, and now that the weather was so hot the ability to go for a swim was appreciated. But she more preferred the shaded forests or just… escaping back to her own world if needed.
Or hogging a friend's A/C unit if things got that stupidly hot… which, for a Solarian was uh. Pretty often in one of the summers around Destiny City. Running so warm did her favors during the winter, but summer? Ha.
It was why when an article popped up on her social media feed discussing some caves right next to the Reservoir… her interest was immediately piqued. Cooler temperatures inside the cave? Check. Not a lot of instant drops and life hazards? Check, actually, which surprised her. The article mentioned some unquie features and wildlife native only to this cave system, but didn't go into details beyond that.
Not that Kyrie entirely minded, she was already pretty sold on the idea of checking it out. She just didn't want to do it alone. She was pretty sure there were a few horror movies on streaming she'd seen recently with that premise, actually.
So, she did what she thought was the most sensible and rational thing. She immediately texted Devyn with the article and a whole slew of subsequent texts.
You free???
I really want to check this out
Come with me??
Please??
We don't need to head in far
I just want to see this unique wildlife
Article says it's not far into the cave and safe to visit
So??
She'd stared at her phone till she saw the eventual speech balloon pop up on the opposite side of the message screen, little series of dots blinking over and over until an actual text bubble emerged.
Kyrie gleed, a whoop of delight shooting through her van as she scrambled from where she'd been lounging on the bed in the back with a fan on full blast, up to the driver's seat. It was easy to find the route to the Reservoir on her phone, along with a pitstop at Devyn's place to pick him up.
Another bonus to having suffered through learning written English and force herself through the process to get her licence. It was easier to nab up friends for various adventures even outisde of various powered things. Which, really? She was somewhat over so many adventures as Solaris for the time being. Getting up to some trouble or simple fun as Kyrie, though?
Yes please.
It sounded like a balm to her soul at that point. And less likely to devolve into world-ending dilemmas and turmoil. Hopefully.
Her music was at a reasonable level when she'd pulled up in her periwinkle blue van, not loud enough to disturb conversation but still present when conversations eased up. Kyrie had found she enjoyed a lot of music from different Earth cultures and eras, but her particular enjoyment at the moment came from the energy-lifting, happy beats of summer time tunes from the 80s, 90s, and 00s. Len's Steal My Sunshine was a particular favorite--even if she was aware the lyrics told a more somber story than the beat would suggest.
Similarly upbeat melodies bopped through the speakers as she drove the two of them to the main parking of the Reservoir, consulting her phone a few times once there on the location of the caves. "They… should be… that way," she hummed, pointing up along the beach further ahead of them. "Bit back off the beach, though."
She got out of the van once she made sure everything was in its proper place and secured, pausing to pick up two little Emerald Star Charms with a grin--one of which she tossed at Devyn, when she caught his eye.
