The Fireflies (6) : In the warm summer nights, little glowing lights begin to bob and dart through the city. Fireflies are mating, so this isn't uncommon in itself; in the past few days you've probably seen hundreds of fireflies. What makes these lights so unique is that they seem to change color; you might see a blue one, a green one, a red one. They flicker randomly, and something just seems off with them. If you come into contact with one, you will find yourself with a strange electric jolt. They cannot be caught, and will flicker away if you pursue too aggressively. This isn't the first time they've appeared in Destiny City, but no one's been able to tell where they came from or where they're going. No matter how quickly you chase them, they always seem to disappear before you can find any answers.

Sable had thought about dragging Sade to watch the fireflies. She'd heard they were such pretty colors this time of year and the fact that these fireflies were actually special made it that much more intriguing. They weren't the normal yellow fireflies you see just dancing, but ones that were basically a light show in of themselves. And knowing how much Sade loved her gigs as a DJ and the whole atmosphere of a rave or even just a normal dance party as long as there were good lights. This was a good reason to drag her sister out here.
Sade was usually up for anything, but this one - sounded boring to her. "Can't we go fairy hunting or do something other than watching bugs?"
Sade whined as she followed her sister who was determined to go watch the fireflies and she didn't even bring snacks. "I mean we could've at least brought s'mores. We usually do a picnic - why couldn't we do that this time!?"
The younger of the two was visibly upset they were coming out here without snacks. Things would've been worth it if there were just things to make s'mores with. "I had a gig I could've gone toooo if I'd known we were going to watch dumb bugs."
Sable turned sharply and glared at her sister who froze abruptly. "If you don't quite down and chill out you won't understand why I pulled you out here. These aren't just any fireflies."
There was a huff, "Honestly, you're such a child sometimes. No one would know you were thirty one." The elder sister continued to move forward dragging her sister along with her.
She sighed when they finally reached the area where the fireflies danced, "After all we can't light a fire, they would all leave. So there's no point in trying to make s'mores out here. We can make them when we get back to the van."
Sade looked disgruntled when she was told to quiet down and then when her sister called her a child she started to pout. It's not like there weren't better things to do than watch a bug with a glowing butt. They could see those any old time.
However, the promise of making s'mores when they were done did entice the other one to at least amuse her sister and pretend to be at least a little bit interested when they finally reached the spot.
She immediately plopped down on the ground sitting with legs crossed as she looked for the promised weird fireflies. "So where are these amazing bugs sister? All I see are normal fireflies." Sade said as she watched the fireflies move. It wasn't until after she asked that she noticed the fact that their glow changed color. There was an amount of an 'ohhh'. That came out of her mouth.
Sable sighed heavily as her sister continued her charade of acting as if she was put out and pouting over the whole ordeal. Honestly, it wasn't that big of a deal but she thought they could spend more quality time together. That's what she got for thinking.
When the lightning bugs started showing their colors and Sade realized it Sable beamed, "See I told you it was worth it."
The older sister also sat down on the ground, tucking her legs under her as she did. She held out her hand hoping for one of the lightning bugs to land on her finger, as she'd done so many times before. "Aren't they pretty?"
Sade watched as Sable tried to get one to land on her finger. The other seemed to think before decidedly standing up "I'm going to catch one or two." She said with confidence.
Surely she could manage to get a couple of these little guys and they'd be great to have a video or picture of before releasing them. She wouldn't keep them long. Sade followed carefully, softly as she tried to get a firefly to land on her finger much like Sable but she was moving her finger up to the bug in order to get it to land.
She managed to get the bug to touch the edge of her finger but instead of landing there was a sudden shock and a yelp from the younger of the two sisters. That was unexpected.
"Sade!?" Sable stopped what she was doing and looked shocked that her sister made such a noise just by touching one of the bugs. "What happened are you okay?" She thought she'd seen a little bolt of lightning but couldn't tell for sure.
If that was true and it came from the bug that was insane. Sable got up and moved towards her sister to check where she'd seen what she thought was a bolt of lightning travel from the bug to her sister's finger. "I don't see anything..."
"What the ******** was that!?" Sade finally gained enough of her senses back to form words from being shocked and flabbergasted that the bug had the audacity to actually shock her. The young woman scratched the back of her head and then her eyes narrowed at the bugs, "I'm going to get you for that." She said shaking her fist at the bugs.
After her sister inspected her finger she broke free and started trying to catch another firefly this one evaded her and flew around as if it was laughing at her when it darted out of reach and then coming back into reach. A different one decided to land on Sade's bare arm and another shock gave the woman a start.
Then just as fast the lightning bugs decided it was time to move on and they started to fly away, just out of reach of the one following them.
"Sade, maybe that's a protective response and not anything they meant to do to hurt someone?" She seemed curious about why the lightning bugs would have actual lightning bolts and shock people but at least it wasn't anything crazy.
She watched her sister continue to try to catch the crazy bugs for a bit longer before they flew completely out of her reach.
"Hey Sade, lets go make s'mores. Following them isn't worth it." Sable said as she jerked a finger back towards the way they'd come from.
"I've got your favorite marshmallows anyways, and the caramel Hershey bars we can try as well as the normal bars." Sable hoped that was enough to bring her sister around.
When Sade was convinced she couldn't catch the stupid shocking bugs. She sighed defeated and nodded, "Alright. Lets do s'mores."
She turned around and followed her sister back towards the van, "I call dibs on the caramel bar then!"
