Quote:
Personal Raincloud (11) : It’s a beautiful, sunny day in Destiny City–for everyone but you. There’s not a cloud in the sky–except for yours. No matter where you go, a dark cloud seems to hover, casting shadows wherever you go. It’s been raining since you woke up today, and it’s like bad luck and bad weather just follows you. It’s a constant downpour, always exactly where you are. The raincloud is usually big enough to easily cover a full building, so if you stick around for too long, your misfortune will turn into someone else’s too. The raincloud might follow you for a few hours or for the whole day before slowly fading; there’s no escaping it, or the strange, sombre mood that seems to follow you.

The day had started well. Amora hadn't noticed the weather being anything out of the ordinary when she was fixing herself a quick breakfast. If she was fooling herself there was perhaps a lingering sense of doubt that going about as if everything was normal was the wrong approach to take. The food was consumed and shortly after Amora had cleaned up the mess she had created there was nothing more to delay her departure. Grabbing the set of keys that had been entrusted to her Amora stepped outside only to feel multiple drops of water falling from the sky. Ducking back inside the young woman pulled out her phone and unlocked the screen in order to reset her phone's weather app. Sticking her head back out the door Amora once more felt rain. The opened app on her phone spoke nothing of rain. That was weird.

Grabbing the umbrella that sat in the holder at the door Amora grimaced before opening the contraption and exiting Reed's house. The plan was to simply grab some funds for shopping and then perhaps a lunch. Beyond that her afternoon was pretty much open for anything. If only the rain would leave. It hadn't been predicted and thus it was almost a constant annoyance. Hopefully the rain would go away soon because it would put a certain damper on her day ... no pun intended.

The morning sun filtered weakly through the blinds, casting soft lines of light across the floor as Sonia stood in the doorway with her keys in hand.

For the first time in weeks, she felt like she could navigate the world without bracing for sudden impact. The Calamitous Hollow had nearly broken her, left her blind, fragile, and staggering through her apartment; confused and disoriented, not knowing which side of the room she was facing.

The bruises were mostly gone now, giving way to greenish yellow discoloration, with the exception of the one on her side from when she hipchecked the corner of her kitchen counter. At least she no longer felt it necessary to wear the wrist brace from when she tripped over a decorative pillow that had fallen off the couch.

Every bump into a table or countertop corner, every shattered cup or dropped plate, every piece of trash that had missed the bin or plate that was unwashed near the sink…each had been a cruel reminder that even victories came with consequences. With a heavy sigh, Sonia glanced toward the kitchen where empty shelves and half-filled drawers hinted at how little she was able to keep up with daily life. Dishes piled next to the sink, food spilled on the counter, or splashed onto the linoleum floor.

While it could have been worse, it did not meet the standard of living she strived to maintain. But there were household essentials that needed to be replaced, such as plates, glassware, paper towels, laundry detergent, coffee. Nothing extraordinary, but the bare essentials. It felt strange to focus on something so mundane after the near-world-ending events they had lived through.

Pulling on her cardigan to cover the scars and bruises on her arms, Sonia headed out to her car with one mission in mind: reclaim her space so it felt more like a home again.

The weather outside was nice, at least it had been when she first left the apartment complex. But the further away she got, the heavier the clouds looked, and soon enough a soft patter of rain activated her automatic windshield wipers.

While there were closer stores she could have gone to, muscle memory had her taking a detour to more familiar streets. Perhaps subconsciously, she wanted to see if everyone was ok, but as Sonia approached Reed’s house, she didn’t slow or pull into his driveway to have a quick chat. Instead, she continued on past the 4-way stop and only slowed when she spotted a familiar umbrella.

Stearing her car toward the curb, Sonia wound down the window once she confirmed who was holding it, “Hey Amora. I don’t suppose you need a ride?”

Amora had been keeping her head locked on the horizon. The umbrella had already been put to the use it was intended as the rain did not seem to abate. Her groan was audible even as it felt like the rain was just in her direct vicinity. From what she could tell, in the distance it certainly felt like it was a bright and sunny day. It was just around her that this rain seemed constant. Shaking her head, Amora sighed. The feeling of the grey and dreary day was almost as bad as dealing with the constant precipitation.

The sounds of the traffic that occasionally passed her made no impression on the brunette but she did often notice when somehow or another water would get splashed up on the jeans that she had chosen to don that day. The one time that a vehicle did seem to slow down held Amora's attention but for a moment before it almost passed her by. When it began to keep pace her gaze lit upon a familiar face as the window was rolled down and Sonia's voice drifted out to her. Shifting the umbrella enough to peer up at the sky was just a short enough period of time for her mind to be made up. Opening the passenger side door of Sonia's vehicle did Amora duck down enough to be covered adequately before shutting her umbrella closed in order to finish climbing into the vehicle.

"Yes, I could absolutely use a ride. I don't know where this weather came from today but I am not enjoying it. I'm not made of sugar, I won't melt ... but this," and she indicated the skies above her, "is just too much."

“Sometimes it is a nice break from the overwhelmingly hot weather we’ve been having, especially if you’re like me and don’t have AC.” Which she knew they had because Reed spared no expense for his plants, especially indoor ones that did not fare well in hot or humid temperatures. “But I agree, this raincloud is kind of strange.” Sonia leaned forward and looked up through her windshield to see if she could spot where the break in the rain might be.

“I’m not in any time crunch, so if you have a place you need to be, I’m happy to take you.” It’d been a long while since they had gone out just the two of them, and yet for one reason or another, it felt like just last week when they had gone to the bookstore together.

Amora hadn't had a distinct destination in mind when she had left Reed's. All she had wanted to do was get out of the place she'd called home for the past few years. Her gaze watched Sonia carefully as the other woman took a glance through the windshield to peer up at the sky before she huffed a little. The idea of being driven around appealed to the logical part of her brain but at the same time there was a little bit of marked hesitation. Why should she bother Sonia with the troubles she seemed to be carrying around on her shoulders?

Well, it couldn't hurt for a little while at least to be driven around the city. But really, where had she planned on going?

"Thanks Sonia, I'd appreciate that. I just didn't really have any destination in mind," her expression turned thoughtful for a minute before she found her voice again, "was it raining where you came from ... and what does your phone say the weather should be?"
