  It had been two weeks. For two weeks she'd been wearing the same clothes, given a bucket to relieve herself in, and had to suffer a tiny room that was barely long enough for her to lay down comfortably that was locked whenever she wasn't being given food. Who knew that taking a stroll in the garden with a foreign dignitary was so dangerous?
She'd been trying to help, really. Two kingdoms had come knocking at the Phronesian palace doors for negotiations at the same time, and while both of her parents were still living they rarely separated for matters of business. Something about working better together. It was Aleithia's guess that their powers worked together to give them the information they needed to make decisions, but as their powerless child she'd never been quite important enough to tell. Given how things had ended up, maybe they were right. Because she'd offered to attempt to distract the Shahiti representative with tea and a stroll while her parents spoke to the Mercury representative, Aleithia had been bound, gagged, and carted off to the coastline where they had hidden her on a boat.
It was a shame it was so much effort for her. Once she'd been safely locked away on the ship they were imprisoning her one, she'd overheard talks of ransom. In Phronese she'd always been considered a bit daft. Aleithia realized those rumors might have been true when she attempted to warn the men who had spirited her away from the palace they wouldn't get what they wanted. At least, not in exchange for her.
Logically, it did make sense that they didn't believe her. It probably just sounded like a princess trying to get away from her captors. So she waited. Waited for a note, a letter, something that would tell these men the wouldn't get what they wanted from her capture. Which might, frankly, make everything worse. But only time would tell.
About a fortnight had passed in that state of mild warnings and only breathing stale air. The fourteenth day was when the deck above her got strangely active. Running, stomping... heavens above was that the sound of swords clashing? Aleithia found herself huddled in the corner of her stale cot, trying to make herself as small and unnoticeable as possible. Unfortunately, as the only person in the tiny room, it was impossible not to notice her as the door slammed open and made her squeak in surprise.
Snapping her head up, she met eyes with a new man. This one was not part of the small crew that had been holding her. Sqeazing her knees tighter, she did the only thing she could think to do in the moment. "Please tell me you don't expect a ransom for me too."
