The day was chilly, and the air was clear. Birds could be heard over head as he softly padded through the pine forest. Today, today was a good day. He couldn't put his paw on why, but it was. He thought this every day, of course. As he happily moved through the forest, he could hear little critters from time to time making noises as he passed. Either trying to hide or get a better look at him. He paid no mind to them. Aujigwey had no care in the world.

He took a deep breath of the cool fresh air, smiling as he exhaled. What a time to be alive. It was great. He hadn't been in the pine forest for very long, but he was glad he came. The smell of pine was quite nice. There were small patches of snow that were starting to melt as the summer season was starting. Soon, only snow would be in the mountains where the pine forest trails up. He wondered for a moment how far the pine forest reached, as alot of the mountains were also covered in them.

He stopped for a moment to get a good stretch in. It was a good time to stop and relax for a moment. A small opening in the dense pine trees, the sun was able to touch the floor of the earth below. Ah, what a beautiful day it was.

The pines always smelled of something new — something earthy, with a sharp inhale, followed by whatever odd scent would accompany it today. She liked the mystery of it all, and how even if she had padded this trail once, twice, and now three times, it didn’t matter. The woods would always be different, always unique in what it would offer her.

Today, the snow patches were smaller, the birds louder, and the promise of adventure more enticing alongside the warming winds. She trotted merrily through the trees, tongue lolling, nose twitching. Moments ago, she had passed a squirrel that erupted into shrill shrieks, scolding her for stepping too close. Barriet had barked a warm welcome in return. The unfortunate thing did not make for good company, leaving Barriet to continue her adventures; alone.

A golden ray of sunlight caught her eye, dancing between the trunks and spilling into a welcoming patch. Her ears perked, legs slowing. Ah, that’d be a lovely-

Oh!

She saw him— someone bigger, and already there. Big. Fluffy. Very clearly enjoying a moment of peace and quiet. Very clearly someone of her same species, too. She broke into a grin and stepped closer, into the sunlight.

“Hello!” She chirped, tail wagging. “Mind if I crash your sun nap? I swear I don’t snore.” Or, a least, no one had told her if she did or not!

Half startled, Aujigwey gave a little twitch. He tried to not be too noticeable with his startling a bit. He wasn't expecting anyone to be around, after all. She was a lovely wolf, now that his eyes adjusted. Dark brown and black with bits of white. He gave a soft smile and nodded his head towards her.

"no crashing needed," he said with a chuckle. "Was merely just stretching my legs after a bit of traveling. Wasn't expecting to run into anyone that cared for a little conversation."

It was really hard to actually find someone who wanted to take part in a greet and meet. Not that he was upset about it, but he didn't mind the company either if they did decide to chat. "Traveling long as well?" He asked. She seemed nice enough. After all, no threats. It also didn't end up in her just out right attacking him. Not that he had ever experienced that with anyone yet.

Now that she had gotten his attention and there was a moment to properly observe the male, Barriet took a half second to take in his presence. She’d never met someone as bright as him, but he was cute! Not that she was going to tell him, or, at least, not at that very second, but, well, it did sweeten the deal. She accepted the smile with her own and broke the distance with slow, measured steps, careful not to spook him. While she had never met someone actually hostile before, Zula had told her of stories of ma’ome and ma’duwi who didn’t take kindly to quick movements. Today was not the day to test those boundaries — no, it was a day to meet a new friend!

”Good, because I’ve been told I chatter quite a bit,” she quipped back with a wide smile. She flopped near him, not too close, not too far — enough that she could easily see his face. Her ears folded back in relief for the chance to take a break. She hadn’t been aware of how tired her legs actually had been, nor how many steps she had taken without a pause, but the dull ache in her legs was now noticeable, a soft reminder to take more time for herself in the future.

Although, if she had, then she wouldn’t have met the green and dark male settled in-front of her!

”I am!” Another stretch, this time with a soft crack of her legs. ”I travel a lot, especially when the seasons start to change. It’s nice to feel the breeze on my fur, and watch everything change colors. Where are you coming from?”

He pondered her question with clicking his tongue on the roof of his mouth for a moment. Where did he start from? It had been a long time since he thought about the place he started at. Maybe just the last place he could remember was the best thing to state. He looked back at her with a soft smile. "I suppose my origin is hard to remember, but I recently passed through some desert and a jungle." He said as he was recalling his traveling "Then, I found myself here."

"I dare say," he started "that this is a better place than the desert." he chuckled. "Too hot there!" The jungle was nice, but also still too hot. "The Jungle was also hot, but it was very beautiful."

The desert? She had heard of it, had pondered heading that way and trying out the supposed unrelenting heat and ever-shifting sand, but, well... the tiniest part of her still had some survival instinct, as rare and faint it could be. Going alone sounded like a death sentence, but there the survivor lay, clicking his tongue as if it had been any other day.

"Wow, the desert?" Her tone lifted into one of genuine awe, hanging in the air before she exhaled a short, warm laugh. "Is it true that it's covered entirely in sand? I've never been, but maybe someday. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but," she shrugged sheepishly and flashed her own subtle smile. "A friend told me there was something called quicksand, and boy, I do not want to be alone and stumble on that. You're so brave!"

Her tail wagged languidly behind her, a gentle and persistent beat. "The jungle is nice, you're right. Did you ever get caught in a rainstorm? I've never been so drenched!"
